Great plan, great letter! I wish you had been on the ballot. I would have had
someone I wanted to voter for.
How about providing a list of the services you would like to have cut?
I agree. When you consider the increases by various cities, school districts
and special districts, and then include the unknown factor coming down the pike
from the Obama administration, the county taxpayers will be in for a real
ride.Included in the county tax increase is hiring 38 new employees.
How can this even be on the table when some businesses in SL County are laying
off people and residents are forced to continue to tighten their belts?
Maybe we should keep more of our money here in the US instead of shipping it
overseas in the form of defense spending, nation building, and foreign aid?
Oh nice try Old Man. I know what liberals do as soon as anyone
suggests something to cut.I will leave that to the elected
officials. That is the job they signed up for and get paid for, to manage the
funds, not just to spend like mad.I have seen the new library and it
seems rather extravagant, but that is in hind sight. There were those
(conservatives) who warned it was too much, too fancy, too expensive, but they
were talked down. We are stuck paying the bond for years to come. Now we can add
the parks bond too. If we had just had all the facts on the budget before the
election, maybe we wouldn't have voted for more spending for parks,
especially since we have to borrow to get them. (I say we collectively. I and
many others voted against the bond)
I am also distraught over tax hikes but you conservatives seem to have missed
who is in charge here. You scream after the fact, you scream not having a clue
that you have have controlled Utah politics for over 35 years. You scream as you
enjoy those parks and libraries. You scream that you don't want to invest
in your children's future and support cutting education but you never
scream when government officials across the valley give sweetheart deals to
corporations and other businesses to do business here when actually your
children would be better for your long range financial health. No, I don't
want a tax hike. No, I don't want business to pull up stakes, but it time
for us to pull our head out and decide what is important. We have a system, and
it is tied together on a global scale so it is time you conservatives realize
you are not an island.
Can't blame conservatives for what has gone on in SL County government.
Demo's are in charge and have been for a while.Doesn't it
bother you that the tax hike was held until after the election? I'm not so
concerned about who is the new mayor, but I think it would have changed the bond
outcome, as it should have. We were already short on money. We should have been
told that important truth. But the people were deceived, lied to. I hope we
wouldn't have bonded for more if we had known the truth. And in
case you hadn't noticed, new growth in the county is hardly booming. I
think we could have waited to buy up more park land. The land will not be all
gone any time soon. We should have saved up for it instead of borrowing for
it.I know that sounds so conservative, (save up instead of borrow),
but at least we aren't stuck paying for it for years in the future, which
is especially painful in lean years when funds are short. The outrage
of the taxpayers falls far short of what is warranted for this.
Or, you know, you could just pay the tax. Taxes are not a bad thing, you
know--they're how we pay for government.
Just like in Washington, the Executive can propose whatever it wants, but the
legislative (commission) has to pass it. Talk to your representative on the
council, not to us. Government will crush it citizens? A little
over the top there pal.
