Does anyone know if BYU has noticed the star of South Sevier's basketball
team? I can't think of his name. Race Parsons I think.
I think some of this has to do with the fact that basketball, more than most
sports, works well for very tall people. Most good basketball players are in
the 99th percentile for height. Couple the rarity of adequate height with the
rarity of real athleticism and you have got pretty slim choices. If you find
that rare genetic mix in a family it makes sense to stick with it.
I liked Coach Reid when he was at BYU. Yeah, he showed poor judgement with
regards to that Burgess kid, but I didn't really have a problem with
playing his boys - much like I don't have a problem with the Mathews kids
playing at O-line. They had talent. Utah State will say whatever and do
whatever to try to get under BYU's skin, it is just what they do,
they're schtick. The Reid brothers were decent players, and transferring
to Michigan is an obvious display of an evaluation of talent by averaging 13.5
points per game in the Big Ten. To quote a tired internet meme, "haters
gonna hate".As for BYU and Coach Rose using their influence to
get the younger Emory, Hawes, Collinsworth and Chatman that is terrific that we
could be so lucky. Should be great college players all.
EJB: Not sure if they have. Is he related to a past player?
Every high school kid in Utah who fancies himself a BYU player should read this.
How does an article like this not mention the Nixons, Kevin and Dalton? Kevin
won a WAC title with a 3/4 court shot at the buzzer to beat UTEP. His son,
Dalton, led his team, Orem, to the state championship last year, and they are
heavily favored again this year.
What about the Smith brothers, or does being from So Cal leave them out of this
"Red Headed Stranger" I couldn't agree more. The Reid brothers
had much better offers to play ball at better programs. They did us a favor by
going to BYU. Then BYU chewed them up and spit them out. It was a disgraceful
move by BYU brass and we deserved that 1 and 26 season for our callousness. But I'm glad coach Rose has us on a great path and I'm very
excited for these new recruits.FYI - you can get season tickets to BYU
basketball for as little as $50 per ticket per season. It's about 3 bucks
a game.Go Cougs
Family affair or not, this is a great recruiting class and the pipeline is
filled for the next couple of seasons. It's a great time to be Coug.
Basketball in Utah is BYU.
I think the Parsons kid is going to Dixie.
It's too bad Jimmer doesn't have a younger brother.Dave
Rose has done an outstanding job of recruiting and coaching to build BYU into a
very good basketball program that continues to garner more and more respect in
basketball circles across the country.Good luck to the Cougars
tonight in Brooklyn!
So what happened to Eric Mika? Has he had a change of heart? Also, Billy Bob,
I think you meant the Reynolds Brothers who are sons of Lance Reynolds the Tight
End Coach. And to 1Infidel, who are the Smith Brothers? Michael Smith was
a star, but I'm not aware of any other Smith family member who starred for
the Cougar basketball team. His brother Chris was an outstanding tight end on
the football team.
Are some of you missing the humor? Fun stuff, Rock Monster!
For BYU father-son combinations there was Bob Craig (1951 N.I.T. championship
team and his son Stephen Craig (the other guard with Danny Ainge).
Now that I think about it, this should be a very a huge plus for BYU, even if
your not from one of the families listed. As far as I can tell, two players
with the last name of "Davies" and "Carlino" get serious playing
time and didn't have family members on the team. To me, it shows the
quality of the program when those kids (Emory, Hawes, etc. . . ) could have had
their pick of the programs in Utah and probably outside also, yet they heard
enough positive information from their older brothers about BYU that that is
where they went. Of course Rock has to use the word "nepotism" because
it seems like he likes to take digs at BYU, just because.
Red headed stranger...relax and laugh a little. Rock is just having fun. Chill
Hey, you forgot the oldest Roberts brother, Glen. He never saw an offensive foul
he didn't like. If someone got in his way, he would just plant a sneaker on
the guy's chest and go for the rim.
