Mr. Bennett you are definitely right that the nation needs compromise. The
extreme right wing Tea Party has damaged the Republican Party and is one of the
major causes of Mitt Romney’s loss in the election. If Romney had not had
to pander to the extreme right wing to get the Republican nomination he would
have been able to run as the moderate, level headed republican that he is.
Polls show that the majority of Americans want compromise in Washington. As a
child I was taught that we don’t always get everything we want and that we
need to compromise. I always thought this was a pretty straight forward
concept. I guess I was wrong.
I am guessing that hindsight still remains 20/20 and that if Mitt had.....Chances are though that nobody wearing the GOP hat could have won with
the direction they were offering.Having voted GOP for the majority
of my life I now look and vote for the best or often the lesser of two evils.GOP economics this time were really shady. Paul Ryan who was supposed
to be the great hope for the economics of the party was able to muster a program
that did not make the GOP mad and by using those numbers this country could stop
going financially backwards in 2035 and until then we would continue to spend
more than we make and have.Mitt wanted to give the rich more money
to create jobs but over the past 60 years that program tried in this country and
others had failed miserably, but Mitt seemed to think if he promoted it enough
it would work. Studies and history had shown it did not work so how could he
hope to win?Has the GOP figured out now the population might
actually be able to recognize a problem before they elect one?
The Republicans will field a winning candidate next time if they accept the
following:1. Allowing the free flow of labor across the border is
not amnesty. It's simply supply and demand--part of free trade instead of
protectionism.2. Hispanics, with their faith, family values, and
work ethic make great Republicans. Quit demonizing them.3. Not
every recipient of federal aid is an enabled, entitled freeloader. Some really
need our help.4. Some of the rich are, and don't.5. Cooperation, compromise, and moderation spell community, not communism.
["Problems at polls weren't dramatically worse, experts say."Supposed Republican plots to engage in "voter suppression" did
not materialize.]That's because the courts stopped their most
egregious attempts. Cutting early voting days to intentionally make long lines
in Democratic-heavy areas in inner-cities absolutely is a voter suppression
tactic. It just didn't work because people waited it out, voting several
hours after polls closed, and that's why Obama had those late surges in
Ohio, Virginia, and Florida.
The election is over, but the damage left in its wake has yet to be tallied.
Friendships were strained. Congregations divided. Family relations tested.
Hopefully the net effects of this election will be short lived. At least that
is what I hope. But while at a business dinner in Chicago last week,
the true anger of the Republican base was in clear view. This disappointment,
the disdain they held for their counterparts, the divide and hatred toward there
fellow Americans was thick, tangible, and deep seeded. It makes me
worried that this time, the wounds of a tough fought election will be slower to
heal, and in some cases leave deep scares. Truly a shame.
John C. C.,Thank you! I believe those are some great insights.
Ronald Reagan couldn't have won in 2012. John F Kennedy couldn't have
won either. The bottom line issue for all of us - those of us that actually work
and pay taxes - is that the majority of America chose Barack Obama - a socialist
with a miserable economic record. America chose to legalize Marijuana and gay
marriage and America also decided that more debt doesn't matter as long as
people get free stuff. America voted for tax payer funded late term abortion
...all the way up to the final month of pregnancy and the list goes on and on...
It is hard to distinguish America from any of the now bankrupt socialist
European countries as far as the path forward. America is a mirror of Greece ...
in a few short years. The DNC booed GOD and you can project this as the attitude
toward religion in America going forward from the far left majority. Europe is
mostly atheistic and without any real morals and America wants to be Europe. One
nation under God? In God we trust? The "United" States? An
"exceptional" people? Does America today deserve freedom and prosperity
John C.C. Thank you. The 'small tent' that the Tea Party
insisted that the Republicans take hurt both the party and our two-party system.
It didn't help when prominent voices continually pushed views that
demonstrated insensitivity and disregard for fellow human beings.
re:John C.C.I assume the "insensitivity" you are talking
about is the 47% comment? Just guessing. Interestingly enough the 47% comment by
Mitt was right on target. Mitt said that 47% viewed themselves as victims and
therefore somehow deserved entitlements. This same 47% who don't pay taxes
and many of which collect most of their income from Uncle Sam's welfare
dole... and want to keep it that way. Is there something not true about this
comment? Certainly not the percentage and not the attitude either since this has
been Barack Obama's main message to the nation - you are victims and you
deserve something for nothing. Mitt was simply pointing out that there is no way
to reach this sort of lazy rabble. They don't want to work - they expect
free stuff and will vote for the party that grants both. Welcome to America
2012. Welcome to Greece in 2016!!
To say Mr. Bennett's observation are silly would probably be harsh but
closer to the truth than not. The money was well spent and served to avoid a
disaster for either party. Just look at the local race, Utah supported Mia Love
despite her promise to put seniors on welfare. Without PAC money Ms. Love
doesn't pull above 35% Similarly, without the money spent for Romney, no
way he comes close to the president's numbers. Evangelicals stay home in
droves instead of just enough to lose the election, women abandon him and white
males wouldn't have bothered. And do you really believe the Latino vote
would have pulled for Obama without the money - they would have stayed home too.
Then there is the "supposed Republican voter suppression"? Really?
Pennsylvania Republicans on tape, Ohio Republicans canceling earlier voting for
everyone except expected Republican voters, Arizona is still counting votes and
then you have Florida - maybe he said it tongue in cheek.
Once again, everyone attacks the tea party, calling them extreme when all they
want is a smaller government that is fiscally responsible. I want no part of
the insanity that is the Democratic party (and is many in the Republican party)
that on one hand says we need to cut spending while on the other hand spends at
the highest levels in the history of this country with no signs of slowing
down. They are spending away our countries future. It's sad
that a majority of this country either didn't educate themselves enough to
care or just simply don't care.
To think the Tea Party is simply a movement of fiscal responsibility is
delusional. They may have been for about the first two weeks of their existence,
but thanks to the party wing nuts, they were quickly transformed by the highly
religious and highly divisive movement conservatives who continue to champion a
narrow and alienating social agenda. If they were truly the party of fiscal
responsibility instead of ideological theocrats, they would have won in a
keep spinning patriot, the longer you spin the farther you get from the reality
From a libertarian standpoint I weep for this country's future. Romney was
just a dead horse to give obama the election. his job was to lose to Obama in a
rigged election. 9% unemployment is the new normal. that number is probably
higher because people who have given up looking for work aren't counted as
unemployed. The lower class is the new middle class. The old middle class is the
new upper class. NDAA is accepted as patriotic. Democrat are really
Authoritarians who play the ethnic card every chance they get and accuses
everyone who hates their politics as being predjudice. This is the way they are
killing our first amendment rights.
Senator Bennett lead the decline.
re:TolstoyUnless you talk specifics your posts are noting but dry
toast - sorry guy but if you are afraid to engage in specifics then don't
post. Cheap shots from the peanut galley garner no credibility. Address my
specific points with objective and fact based arguments and then we can talk.
Otherwise its just noise.
Obama won because there are more people getting a free ride in the wagon than
there are people pulling the wagon. That's more important to some than
Obama's deception in the Bengazi mess. Character and honesty and decency
can't trump corruption and deceit.
