This will kill Karl Rove. He is still trying to figure out how he got it wrong
in Ohio. Rove thought spending 126 million on over 82,000 TV spots would allow
him to buy this election. Lets hope this experience kills the whole SuperPAC
thing, as it seems to have been money wasted. It didn't get Mia Love a
win, and it didn't help Romney win a state that the polls said was his to
win. Yes Rove, Obama won both Ohio and Florida. It is
time for better leadership in the Republican party. Time to get back to what
you were all about... big tent politics of the Reagan era - not the exclusive
club of Rove and the Koch brothers.
I guess the Republicans need to promise universal health care, no immigration
reform, tax the wealthy and give it to the poor who pay little to no taxes
themselves, and just attack their opponents and call it a platform. That's
what the Demo's did and apparently did very well. Why would I
want this country to return to personal responsibility for one's situation
when those in Washington DC can just guarantee me a cushy life from the cradle
to the grave just like they've done for themselves as members of Congress?
(Using our monery, too, not their own.) Why would the Little Red
Hen suddenly not want to bake any more bread?
Let's see...74,000 vote difference in several million ballots counted is a
huge victory and mandate from the people? 50 - 49.1 percent is a
"mandate?" Wow. Some spin.
toosmartforyou- it isn't that Obama won it so much is as it is the those
managing the Romney campaign believed bad data coming from both their own
polling as well as Rasmussen. While other polls had Obama up by 2% nationally,
conservative polls had Romney winning Florida by 1 to 2 percent. They
underestimated the election on many of levels thinking the mid-year election
signified more than they did..Thats not to say the Obama campaign
didn't have their miscues as well. They absolutely did. I so many
conservative friends scratching their heads trying to figure out who to blame.
Even though the Deseret News with his huge personnel cutbacks and its dwindling
news coverage, the editors apparently allowed this longer version of the AP to
be offered on the Deseret News website. I appreciate the more extended version
rather than the shorter, cut-up versions available on other national media
Maybe it works in Farmington, but I can't think of any other place in which
wagging a finger at others and trying to shame them into changing their minds
actually succeeds. Anyway, it doesn't work with me.
Wow! The people of Florida are very wise. Now, I know that four
years from now, we'll have a robust economy, and unemployment will be below
five percent. Deficit will decrease.
This was an extremely close election. Obama barely won 50-49 in the key swing
states. A mere 2 million votes was the difference in the popular vote. That does
not indicate any sort of a mandate. What it indicates is a divided nation. It
will get more intense if we do not genuinely reach out to each other. Americans
have grown tired of empty political rhetoric devoid of action.
Republicans - all I hear you guys talking about is how America must want free
stuff w/o working, free cell phones and other ridiculous stuff like that. So my
1st bit of advice is the quite watching Fox News and turn off the radio
blowhards/blogs for a while. Listen, most people don't want free stuff,
most people are in fact hard working individuals who take pride in making an
honest living. I'm not going to give you a lecture about what your party
should do, I think if you look at it objectively, you will come to a sensible
conclusion. Blaming the (L)MSM is a joke, maybe you should start paying
attention to what others are saying and quite getting your information from
biased sources. That would be a good start. Good luck!
Toosmart:Gore won the popular vote in 2000 but lost in the electoral
college only after a 5-4 Supreme Court decision, and yet Bush spoke frequently
of his "mandate."Moreover, the size of Obama's margin
of victory Tuesday exceeds Bush's re-election in 2004, and Bush was even
more adamant about his "mandate."I guarantee that if Romney
had won by the same margin that Obama won last Tuesday, you guys would have seen
all kinds of "mandates" in the election.
A mandate doesn't matter. This is a new style of politics. Obama will get
his way because the Republicans will wilt under intense pressure. I didn't
think the American people would do this, but they have chosen their path. No
doubt some of these same supporters will be bitter complainers in two years
time. It boggles the mind. We rejected a better qualified candidate in favor
of a mediocre one. That kind of decision won't go without consequences.
We are already beginning to see things that were hidden before the election
"We rejected a better qualified candidate in favor of a mediocre
one."That's an opinion shared by you and a minority of
voters.The majority think otherwise.
Obama went golfing today...I guess it's back to work like normal.
America grew up a lot on Tuesday. Normal has changed, and we're leaving a
lot behind in the wake of it. We're finally beginning to understand the
Presidents' motto. Forward. At last, we get to deny the stupid. America is
a nation worthy of claiming again. It's still not going to be easy. But
we've defined who we don't want to be. Let's embrace reality.
And, through it all, move forward.
@ParkCityAggie,I haven't watched Fox or listened to Hannity, or
Rush, etc. I can't stand them. However, being an Independent
who is quickly turning conservative more and more every day, my own personal
analysis agrees with "Why would I?". His/her post is right on target.
Accept the truth. Obama/liberals are winning because of this. EVERY person I
have talked to, including close members of my family who voted for Obama did so
because they want the govt. to do something for them or take care of them.
Whether it is Social Security, Medicare, universal health coverage, etc. -
people generally vote Democrat because they want government programs to benefit
them. Too bad these people don't realize that with a social program,
somebody gains while somebody else pays for it - and eventually we ALL will pay
for it. Now, if Republicans would just temper a bit the
"Hawkish" attitude towards the Middle East - I might sign up with them.
@Utes Fan -- Well, if you want to talk anecdotal evidence, I have to say that
many of the people I know who voted for Romney have taken lots of government aid
over the years, from Medicaid, to SS Disability, to VA loans, to food stamps, to
payment for leaving part of their farms fallow, etc., etc. On the other hand, I
can definitely say that everyone I know who voted for Obama has never been on
any kind of welfare AT ALL. They are all highly educated and have always had
great jobs. Guess it's all who you know.
Look..it is what it is! The only thing left to do is hold on to what you to have
and hope you make it to 2016. Enough talk! We need action!
Civil war is coming.Get prepared
The top 10 best educated states all voted for Obama. 9 of the top 10 worst
educated states voted for Romney. Draw your own conclusions. Also,
how many Republican pundits were anticipating a "Romney landslide" of
320 electoral votes or better? By their own definition, Obama won in a
We're spending a TRILLION dollars on defense. I should say we spent 800
billion on offense and 200 billion on defense,There's the
deficit problem, we spend as if we're at war with the entire world all the
time. That's jut not sustainable.
'topping Mitt Romney in final tally' needs to be removed from the
headline. I've never heard of a 'winner' having less votes than
the 'loser'. Yet, thanks for pointing out the obvious.
@West Granger - According to the latest figures, Obama is now ahead
in the popular vote by over 3 million with 99% in. It is a 51 - 48% advantage
for Obama based on the total number of votes. Add to that the electoral count
of 332 - 206, and it seems to be a pretty convincing win by Obama. And you can bet that if Romney had won by these same margins, it would have
clearly been defined by Republicans as a "mandate".
Yes, forward with golfing!
Just because one is better educated doesn't mean they are more wise. Wisdom
is in the proper application of knowledge obtained. Here is a question America.
What is going to happen when the nursing purse of Washington runs dry? What
then? Fake money going to be made? Clearly 61,000,000 naive monsters failed to
think of what potential and realistic downfall will come with an over stressed
nanny state. We warned you and you didn't listen. So, keep your whining to
yourself when this country turns worse than the great depression and we will
fight the urge to utter the very true words of WE TOLD YOU SO!
Valley City, UtahYou and a few others speak of a mandate, the
mandate is in Obama 332 elctoral votes to Romney's 206 electoral vote.
That is where the office of the Presidency is decided and that is where the
mandate comes from.Enough of the sour grapes, lets get on with life.
Your next chance is in 4 years but if our beloved Republican Party doesn't
clean up it's act and become more inclusive it will just be another
Until the republicans figure out that they cannot garner enough votes to win a
presidential election bowing down to Grover Nordquist and the Koch Brothers,
expect more of the same in 2016. You can expect an occasional midterm success
story for the republicans, but that is about it. Republicans are
now blaming everyone but themselves which again will lead to continued failures.
Republicans look inward for the solution. The tea party today holds power in a
few congressional districts, but in only a few cases will the tea party deliver
a senate seat, and the will never deliver the presidency. Republicans distance yourself from the tea party, move to the middle right
where most of the country is and you will win. Continue the arrogance blaming
the voters for being to dumb and lazy and expect to keep on losing.
ParkCityAggie,Of course people want free hand outs. It's the
areas with the most handouts, that voted Obama. Duh!You've to
quit with MSNBC, CNN, CBS, and ABC.
Screwdriver,The military provides jobs. Better then just giving it
away for nothing.
Worf, you never cease to amaze me with your constant stream of statements that
are demonstrably untrue.1) the reality is that the states that take
in more money from Washington than they send in taxes are invariably
"red" states - Utah included.2) why, in your opinion, is a
military job "good" but a job with the Forest Service, USGS, NASA, FAA,
FDA, Parks Service, etc., not equally valuable to our condo my?
Blue,You're so easily amazed.A strong military
keeps us safe, and free. Read some world history.
For the poor, misinformed folks in Park City and a few other locations....we
really want you to understand the reality that the Obama political machine
doesn't want you to consider, think about or, again, understand.First. Obama will be considered the worst President the Nation had in over 200
years. Why? Because he had the least experience. The least moral fortitude. The
most dishonest (can you say Benghazi without cringing??) The biggest fiasco ever
sold by big Government, Obama Care. The highest deficit. The highest
unemployment. The worst record of reaching 'across the aisle' of any
modern era President. etc.Second. The election was a sham.
Philadelphia ran republican poll watchers out of the polling sites with impunity
and only allowed them back in after a Federal Judge ordered them in. Two and a
half hours later. After all the republican votes in one precinct were destroyed
and after ballot boxes were stuffed. (Can you say, Cook County, Ill. 1960??)
Votes in Florida, Ohio, PA and VA are still uncounted.Third. For the
4th consecutive election, the news media was allowed to run amuck without any
accountability for honesty or fairness in doing their job.
Without calling out names: The comment about "top ten" states and
"bottom ten" was completely false. We call that another word in my
circle...it begins with an 'L'.Here is the truth: The top
three Welfare States of 50 (53 according to Obama) had the highest vote
percentage for Obama. California (there is no close 2nd) led the pack. That
means those people who receive the highest government dole (not the most
educated per capita) voted more government dole by a 67 to 32% margin.
California will now pay an undocumented resident (not citizen) the equivalent of
$42,300 per year when housing allowances, food stamps, welfare payments, health
care, utility subsidies and free counseling are totaled in. The truth is, why
would a resident of California ever elect someone calling on personal
responsibility? The obvious answer is they never will. Here is the
truth: The state with the Highest educated population per capita, voted OVER 70%
for Romney.Wow. To think folks actually go on line and try to
duplicate Obama's dishonesty is frightening. (Understandable,
however, since Obama has got away with it so well for so long.)
