Mr. and Mrs. Romney are extremely fortunate individuals. They have resources
only very, very few are privy to.Imagine for Just a moment, what is
possible with the Romney family retirement package and fortune. Additionally, a
great deal of money is available to share with less fortunate folks. Not
the same pretty picture for many who have lost their livelihood in recent years,
and are on the precipice of retirement.
The guy has $225 million. I'm sure he'll find something to do!
CPA, you took my idea :) I think he and Ann would make fantastic Mission
President and Mission Mother. Maybe their time and season is now for the
church, it has been in a way, they have brought a very positive light to the
re: xscribeI'm laughing! That was funny! My feelings exactly!
Out of obscurity.
I'm not worried about Romney. He'll be fine.I'm not
worried for the takers in America, they'll continue with the handouts till
things explode.I worry for the working man/women who'll be
taxed, and brought to their knees, until they come to subjection of government.
After all, they don't build businesses. The playing field will be level,
and money will be redistibuted. This is what our people have been
Today the stocks took a dive. Enthusiasm for Obama.
@worfI am one of those "working people" that pay a much higher tax
rate then Romney and you need not worry about us we choose a president last
night that understands that people like himself and Romney need to stop taking
handouts. you however may wish to rethink the rhetoric you have been using for
the past four years as it clearly has failed you.
That's right everyone. The first time bo was elected things just became
better. Now with a second term he has more time to finish his deals with Russia
and other dictators. After the second term when things aren't
better, where are all of the folks that support him now? Will they still stand
with him and his policies? Will they be willing to give more of their paychecks?
Truth be told, Mitt is probably lucky he lost. We the People on the
other hand are not so lucky. He doesn't have to fix the mess that BO got
us in but we all have to endure 4 more years of damage and
"europization". Yes that would be the same Europe that is
Greece and the other socialistic cesspools that are not far behind it.
Obviously there is no way of knowing, but I feel Mitt has too high of popularity
and status to be a mission President. It would be hard.
I listened to some of the AM stations last night that normally spew right wing
at vitriolic levels. They were apoplectic, blaming everything from candy crowley
to the weather. But a lot of their vile was pointed directly at mitt.
Everyone in Utah know what will happen...when a politician is defeated he goes
to the mission field to get a fresh start. Hey if they sent Lavell to New York,
that would be a perfect place for Willard. He could bring the faith to Wall
Street Bankers and Hedge Fund managers! PS. Worf, Lib Ted, and
Anti-Gov : the topic is Romney not the bile in your stomach.
Tolstoy, Taking hundreds of millions for vacations after telling us
to tighten our belts is really cool. Increasing the debt by six
trillion then seeing unemployment spiral is also cool. Of course that was
Georges fault. There's the Embassy, and fast and furious. You, like so many others, have chosen wisely. We should follow the
opinions of the crowd.
Sad ending for someone who would have been so good for the country and the free
world, and turned things positive in a dramatic way. He couldn't always
articulate his message and talked a lot in terms that many outside of business
couldn't understand or relate to, but he knew he could do the job and meet
the challenges, and leave the country in a far better position. But now
we'll never know just how good it could have been with Mitt as a leader.
We're subjected to at least 4 more years of abject failure and absurdity,
and further proof that big government and socialism don't work, never have
worked, and never will work. But will a nation with so many parasites even know
No one has ever paid a higher tax rate than Mitt Romney. He was taxed twice,
once when he earned the money and again when the money earned interest. The
political bigots who tell us that he didn't pay his fair share don't
understand the tax laws.Americans used their agency to give away
that agency as they demand that government pay for their aspirin and birth
control pills. They forgot that tens of thousands of valiant men and women are
buried all over the world who paid the ultimate price for freedom. All they
want is for someone else to pay their way through life.We get the
government that we deserve. When Obama knocks on your door and tells you that
YOU are the rich guy, don't be surprised. That was his plan from the
beginning. We missed a great opportunity to have a real leader who
knows business help us out of this mess. Americans chose - now we'll all
suffer because of that choice.
The 47 percent were swinging and having a ball last night knowing the payday has
come again. Maybe with the $16T debt doubling in 4 more years with more
flexibility we will have a greater future for our great to the 5th grandchildren
to maybe pay off 10 percent for the excesses of this administration's
vacation and jaunts around the world spreading their type of good cheer to our
world leaders and especially the dissidents that dislike America. We definitely need to increase our prayer levels as more and more social ills
become the norm now that the economy wasn't the main issue of the campaign
since people elected the person that didn't even change course of spending.
Being the CINC for another 4 years while the ex-CIA director is
leading His military to new levels of old equipment while cutting out more
dollars to that could have given improvements to equipment that will not be
mission ready, when needed.Mitt Romney has had a plan of "Doing
It" his whole life with a purpose for what his father showed him by example
and by studying and practicing what he learned with high degrees and
abilities.Thanks for serving.
To all of you democrats, can the Republicans take your game plan in four years
and say, "It's Obama's fault" in answer to every problem?
I was thinking a Seventy. In have wondered about that for some time now. While I
wanted Romney to win, I did ask my mother a few weeks ago whether she thought
the Lord wanted an LDS member in the White House or an individual that had
achieved a high profile public persona for people throughout the US and
throughout the world in some capacity in church leadership at the general level
or an Area Seventy in the North America Northeast Area (which includes DC,
Massachusetts, and Michigan). On the other hand, I heard rumors in
the federal government today--probably based on Obama's victory speech
about reaching out to Romney about how the two of them could work together to
solve the economic problems--that Romney would be asked to run a new executive
department on Business Development. Now, that would be a twist--a president
appointing the nominee he defeated to his cabinet. Almost too absurd to
consider.Like others have said, the Romneys will be fine, even if
they walk off into obscurity. But, I think they may be in a great position to do
some good in the world and I hope they do.
@Mike Richards. Everything will be alright.
Once again the man with no substance and no leadership ability prevails. Huge
debt, huge deficits, huge tax increases, increase in government spending,
bloated public sector jobs with the ever burgeoning imposition of government
into our private lives...the list just gets longer as America moves headlong to
the precipice of disaster.
Don't go away mad Mr&Mrs R, just go away.
Elections have consequences.Today the stock market dropped, who
knows how much more? Investors had been counting on Mitt to turn things
around.Next - inflation. Watch for double digit inflation. When this admnistration (dems and Repubs.)run out of "millionaires" to
tax, who do you think they will come to next? They'll try to put more and
more governmental hiring and Obamaphones on the nations credit card, which in
turn will drive up the cost of government debt, which will, in turn, require
more and more tax revenue.....which will disincentivise companies from hiring or
from workers bothering to work. Why work if you can get food stamps,
healthcare, and an Obamaphone?Obama does two things successfully. He was able to enlist the full and total support of the media. He offers
enough "free stuff" to get people to vote for him.As I
watched all the "twenty-somethings" jumping for joy last night in Times
square; I had to wonder if ANYONE could be that happy knowing that up til last
night they owe $210,000 each on the national debt. They obviously ENJOY
debt. Some of the rest of us don't.
Mike Richards I think that I understand what you said. I did not vote for
Obama. I voted for Romney. Honestly I think that Obamacare is going to
bankrupt the country. I do not see it as being "afordable". I cannot
afford it!! I guess that I'm not too optimistic right now. Even the stock
market took a dive. I'm worried.
I wish Mr. Romney the best for him and his family. However, reading
some of the comments here I don't know if to laugh or cry.Mr.
Romney was a businessman, he was a speculator that took businesses at risk to
kill them or rebuild and make money in the transaction. He never
"created" anything new. He is not the messiah, he is not even a very
good salesman. He lost the election, people didn't buy his message. Please get over it and lets move on.Be happy for him, he got
to experience something that very few people have a chance to do.He did
his best, for that he has my respect. The whiners who followed him are getting
If Mitt Romney and his family are as disgusted with the choice American just
made as are the commenters on Deseret News, he will probably just move to the
Cayman Islands to be with all his tax-evading money! And that
wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit. It would be particularly great if he
took some of these hateful commenters with him!Enough whining and
bad-mouthing our President. America: love it or leave it. I hear Mexico has
great opportunities. Go. There. And stay.
Liberal Ted - 4 years ago today.... the US was loosing 900,000 jobs a month.
Not a year. A month. Flash forward 4 years, the US gained 170,000 plus jobs
in a month. So perhaps in your world loosing 900k jobs a month is better. For
the rest of us, gaining jobs is a bit better trend."Being the
CINC for another 4 years while the ex-CIA director is leading His military to
new levels of old equipment while cutting out more dollars to that could have
given improvements to equipment that will not be mission ready, when
needed."Yep, those old fashioned drones we are using to kill our
enemies are surely old school. We need more tanks, more infantry, more big
honking ships which are easy to target. And JWB.... Mitts dad was at one time
part of that derided 47% that needed government assistance. Google Mitts moms
interview she gave when Mitts dad was running for office. Mitt never really was
the hard core NeoCon you all wished he was. He just played that part on a TV
reality show. He is in realty a moderate - Sorry...
Romney and Ryan didn't have spin meisters giving them everything to say. When I think of Obama speaking down to us everytime he speaks and Biden
who was crude and rude in his language and now we get 4 more years of this type
of behavior, which can become worse as they are locked in for 4 more years. There is no comparison to the class we would have had if the voters were
the 53 percent that weren't discussed. The 53 percent didn't win in
this election. That appears to be more than 47 percent and probably is. We
needed someone that wouldn't sit around for 4 years and say it was the
previous President that made it so this current President couldn't make a
budget for our country. He believed we wouldn't understand it and make
sense of it. The House sent him so many and the Senate didn't. Where was
the leadership of budget making. Since he only had a law degree and not a
license to practice and doesn't have an MBA that means he had to get a
Secretary of the Treasury that didn't pay taxes until his Senate
hearing.Enjoy 4 more.
@MR I have forgotten more about tax in the last 10 minutes than you
ever knew and I can unequivocally say that most of Mitt's income is not
"double-taxed" as you constantly claim. To all: Are
severely truth-challenged people good candidates for state presidents and
GA's? I think not.
Worf - per FoxNews, the reason for the sell-off was"Wall Street
succumbed to heavy selling Wednesday in a post-election rout triggered by
concerns that sharp divides in Washington will create more fiscal uncertainty as
the nation hurtles toward the "fiscal cliff.""With a
polarized federal government we see little reason to increase the probability of
avoiding the tax cliff, avoid brinksmanship over the debt ceiling or to expect
pro-growth tax and entitlement reform in 2013,” the investment bank's
Barry Knapp wrote in a note to clients. So sure, blame Obama... but
also make sure you blame everyone who is involved. Lets not cherry pick who we
hold responsible for the mess we find ourselves in. And that include blue and
red people.... if you are being honest.
@ I M LDS 2,You mistaken love of country for love of president! Most
definitely not the same thing. I can totally disagree with the president. My
loyalty and love is not assigned to a man, it is assigned to this country. I can
say whatever I want whenever I want, people have fought and died for that
freedom. So stop trying to suppress freedom because people disagree with you. If
you are getting sick of whining, practice your right to not read the comments!
I wish America would wake up. I still can't believe they chose Obama.
Besides the fact I can't stand the guy he will not lead us back to
prosperity and peace. Everyone who voted for him will regret it. Good luck Mitt.
SS,"You mistaken love of country for love of president! Most
definitely not the same thing. I can totally disagree with the
president..."Ranting and raving is no skin off my nose. Do what
you want. But Tijuana is lovely this time of year. Good luck
there.Be sure to pack your clean socks!
Mike Johnson:In the last episode of The West Wing, the main
character elected President (the first Latino President) played by Jimmy Smits,
asks his political opponent, the Republican challenger played by actor Alan Alda
to be his Vice President after his choice for VP died of a heart attack.
Alda's character declined that position but said he would be Secretary of
State.Of course there was a Hollywood message of bipartisanship but
maybe it wasn't such a bad thought, President Obama making Romney part of
his cabinet or making him an ambassador (if Romney is willing)...
I feel the USA will be in BIG problems this coming year, More lay offs etc
@mike richards he pays taxes the same way the rest of us do Mike there is
no special tax that only romney pays, we all get taxed not he same money more
then once, yet his income tax is still less then half of mine.
the stocks took a dive, watch out thats just the start, jobs, will be lost,
inflation,,the middle class will live off rich. GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU HAVE FOOD
Pretty clear the voters didn't buy what Mitt or the right wing haters were
selling. It's a diverse country, time for the GOP to step into the 21st
The person who wrote this article is obviously an Obama supporter. He
hasn't a clue about the character of Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney does not
define his life by his political achievements. Nor is he that concerned about
what to do for the rest of his life. Mitt is obviously a person of deep
conviction and character running against a deeply flawed incumbent. To define
Mitt under the ruse that there is no meaning to his life outside of his
political career shows how little the main-stream media with all of it's
corruption looked at this race. We, the good people of this country will look at
regret over what greatness this country could have achieved under the presidency
of Mitt Romney. We now have to settle for a country similar to California with
expanding debt, deep division, a third-rate economy, and no moral compass under
the worst example of a President we have ever had in our history.
Will Mitt Romney work to be a moderating force in the Republican Party.
He's in a good position to know what went wrong. He just has to look at
his spreadsheets and do a little regression analysis and conclude the
obvious. However, he will have a very difficult time trying to make
course corrections. The extremists are too entrenched in the Party. First, you
have Fox News, obsessed with Obama to the level of being a mental disorder.
Then there is Mr. Republican Nut Case, Rush Limbaugh, followed closely by Glenn
Beck, Sean Hannity, and the other merchants of hate that are responsible for the
Romney defeat. There's a lot of money invested in the Fox News Tea Party
mentality. It might be a long time before another Mormon is selected
as a Republican presidential candidate. The knives are out and the wingnuts are
already taking swipes at Romney. Rushbo has announced that the Party should have
realized that it nominated a "New England liberal" and never again will
he allow that mistake to be repeated.
coleman51 Orem, UTThe negativism just seeps into the crevices of
the mind and will, if people allow it to fester and grow, provide adequate
justification for any view regardless of reality.Obviously, the
partisan position extends to identifying "the good people of this
country" as somehow better than the majority of people who re-elected the
president. Talk about a refusal to heal! Fortunately, when you look around,
you can't tell who was an Obama supporter and who wasn't. It must be
difficult not having a clear indicator like skin color or eye shape to identify
the "bad people".The take-away message one gets from such
comments is: "My way or the highway!" I was grateful to hear Mitt
Romney give exactly the opposite message in his concession speech. Perhaps the
LDS Church authorities have to remind people that such thinking is what led to
the expulsion and move West. I always thought Mormon history, if anything,
taught the evils of intolerance and bigotry. When I read comments referring to
"the good people of this country", I just wonder if anything was
Some of these negative comments were hard for me to read...evidently these
people don't know Mitt Romney personally or they wouldn't feel that
way. I'm saddened at the results but very proud of him for the positive,
honest way he campaigned. He has integrity and loves our USA with all of his
heart...it was evident. He has so much to offer and hopefully a way will be
provided that Mitt will be able to further utilize his experience and continue
to share and work with the knowledge he has. What a great and upstanding man he
