A slim edge is all that is required. Go Mia!!
Matheson has the worst campaign ads ever.Romney and Love!
One thing the picture in this article validates is that Mia Love knows where the
4th District is, as she actually lives within that boundary. She knows people
there and can relate to their situation. Representative Matheson can't
answer yes to many of those things. He lives in another District
but purports to say that he will get to know them if he is elected.I
believe that many people have learned more than they wanted to from the type of
ads and campaigning he has done this election cycle.Mia Love has
courage to step up and run with the ball. She is doing basic campaigning by
visiting and talking with people that live in her district.Run hard,
If you are like me and are tired of the competing claims about Rep. Jim
Matheson's voting record re: ObamaCare, consider the following:For those that think Rep. Matheson helped fight "ObamaCare" when it
passed, think again.Look at what votes he made the last week prior
that helped set up what happened Sunday March 21, 2010. For those that wanted
the bill to pass, he voted against it, for those that wanted it to fail, he
voted to suspend the rules so it could pass.Look at votes 129, 130,
as well as votes 159, 160, 162 and 163He did the same thing months
before:Look at votes 881, 882, 884, 885, 886, 887The
legislature didn't redistrict Rep. Matheson out of the 2nd district. He
lives in the current 2nd and new 2nd district. The new 2nd district and 4th
district are reportedly both as republican as his current district. He chose to
run in the 4th district because he resides in Utah and the US constitution
doesn't say he has to run in his own district. Unless he moves, he
won't be able to vote for himself this fall.
What has happened is that Matheson has won the previous six elections, thanks to
moderate Republicans who have continued to vote him in office. This election is
not about what Matheson or Love has done good or bad It's the Republican
Party trying to persuade its own members to support its own candidate.
That's why Mia Love has all the endorsements and money from the National
Republican Party. Republican leaders don't want to continue to be
embarrassed again and again by Matheson winning elections. Matheson has proven
himself to be an excellent representative for the state, based on his past
support and endorsements from many diverse groups and individuals. Do we want
someone riding coat tails of fellow party members who want Love for their own
purposes or someone who really puts Utah first rather than party. For me and
many others, our choice is Matheson. Hopefully, that opinion will prevail
Lifelong Republican,Matheson has the worst campaign ads ever? Like
the one with all the republicans leaders going on record voting for him? There
is a reason those folks were willing to go on tv and speak against their party.
Trib poll of LV has Mia up by 12. This poll does not look at LV, however Mia is
up by 6 when factoring in lieners. We now have several polls with Mia leading.
I don't think this will be a long night. I am seeing huge momentum for Mia
on the west side in West Jordan, South Jordan, Riverton, and Herriman. This is
looking like a 10 point win based upon the electoral fundamentals which is
consistent with the margin of error in the SL Trib and Des News polls.
A vote for Matheson is a vote of Pelosi, Reid, and Obama. Matheson's ads
are too negative.GO Mia Love. We love you.
Fingers crossed Mia Love!
Mia Love is one of the worst debaters I have ever heard in my life. If she were
not in an overwhelmingly Republican state, her chance of victory would be very
slim indeed. As one who normally votes Republican, I cannot bring myself to
vote for her. Utah deserves better.
Lifelong Republican: I live in the NEW 4th District and think the ads run by the
super PACs for Mia Love are the ugliest of the ugly ads run by the super
PACs.However, my favorite ad is where Lifelong Republican Jon
Huntsman Sr. endorses Jim Matheson because Jim Matheson is a conservative who
represents our state very well.I attended a "Meet the
Candidate" for Mia Love in a neighbor's home and would probably vote
for her against anyone except Jim Matheson.
Looks like Utah might have an all republican contingent to the national forum
where they can be so proud of the Family oriented state that spends less per
pupil on education then any other state. And of course Utah will vote for a
favorite son candidate for president that will get rid of the estate tax so that
soon instead of the top 20 percent of the population owning 85% of the wealth
maybe we can have the top 5% owning 85 percent of the wealth. Those job
creators are the folks we have to look out for. Being easily in the top 5%
myself I find this goal to avoid taxes immoral. What happened to the concept of
"to whom much is given much is expected" ? I will vote Tuesday in my
SLC precinct against my own personal best financial interest. As a small
business owner I know I cannot raise revenue by cutting my income. Romneys plan
is a financial disaster much worse then what we have now. David Stockman
former budget director for Reagan learned this in the 80s and wrote a book
explaining it. Romney should read it.
I would hate to see this race outcome based mostly on who could outspend the
other in ads and how outside supporters have put up negative ads that backfire
on the integrity of the candidates. That being the case, it seems that Rep.
Matheson has not been served well by the fewer ads supporting him, lack of
apparent national support against the onslaught of Mia Love's support from
outside the state, and the confusing and off-message or dubious political ads
being used to support Rep. Matheson that are likely outside the control of
Matheson's campaign. This is not the American or Utah way.
We need all the help we can get to fix the country. Mitt needs more Republicans
around him!Vote Mia.Mia, You are getting a gift. Please
don't blow it.
Mia may win but not your man Romney! Too bad, ya finally get a Mormon in there
and ya still can't pull it off. And just watch what Mia does for you in
Washington. They are not saviors either remember that, they are politicians!
Matheson has learned over 12 years how to defend his process and even doing some
debating. Matheson grew up in a politicians home and was in a completely
different environment than Mia Love. Our country is made for all people, kinds,
types and circumstances. We can't have all Representatives that fit a box
type of slot. We have to have a variety from all types of backgrounds. That
was probably part of Senator Bennett's problem. He was good but was in
that environment too much of his life. He didn't do all the things
required of an active Senator, like respond to constituents on a regular basis
if they wrote him a letter. Matheson has been in office longer than
some expected and if he wins, he will hopefully take a look at what Senator
Hatch has done differently in the past 2 1/2 years, being more interactive with
constituents. Matheson has done that a little bit but should have listened to
his heart over Obamacare instead of getting caught in Pelosi's lack of real
leadership.Mia will do well but Utahns look down on women in
politics and that is a shame. She has shown courage to win.
Mia Love would be an excellent choice to represent Utah. She is smart, savvy to
the issues and atireless worker. It would send a message of hope for
talented minorities that Utah wants the best representative period. Jim Matheson
and the DCC has hurt him by their over the top attack ads. They are so
misleading and outright lies that most decent people know can't be
believed. Matheson's idea of running ads that show he puts Utah first is
What are we going to do when Mia Love gets rid of the Department of Energy and
the Department of Education? A lot of kids who would otherwise be in public
schools (who can't afford private school) will have a lot of time on their
hands, and a lot of Nuclear Materiel will be left unguarded...Isn't it
obvious?Have these kids guard the Nukes! B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-TOnly in this great State can someone so grossly unqualified as Mia Love even
have a chance. Thanks redistricting committee (gerrymanders) for
making Utah the biggest joke of the United States (move over Mississippi). God
save the Beehive State!
It is time to send Matheson, now a career politician, packing. He votes with
the Dems when it matters, and for his constituency only to score political
points. Mia Love will better represent her district and the state.Show a little Love this fall. Vote for Mia.
This is not a difficult decision, Matheson = Obama, Pelosi and Reid. There is
no way an intelligent person could not see this relationship. Who do you think
paid for the $5.5M in campaign ads for Matheson?
@JWBDoes Jason Chaffetz know where is district is? For the past
four years he has lived outside his district. Is that okay with you
because he is a Republican? How quickly Republicans forget this
@carman"It is time to send Matheson, now a career politician,
packing."Are you aware that Rob Bishop in the 1st Congressional
District is running for his sixth term. Is it time to send him packing, too?
Does he get a free pass because he is a Republican?
Jim Matheson took the opportunity to run in a district other than the one he
lives in thinking it would be an easier race to win.He now will have to
pay the fiddler as they say, he chose the dance, and it looks as it will cost
him.He votes for the Pelosi adjenda all the time, it's time to make
change in this country, and with a team Pelosi player it won't happen, with
love she will work for all of those in Utah not only the people in her District
where she lives.Good choice in Mia, "A Change is as good as a
Re: Fred44 Salt Lake City, UtahHopeful Mia Love will be elected and
it will make Nancy Pelosi see red. (Pun intended.)Mai Love will be a
better fit for our new president. It just doesn't get any better than
Other then being LDS, Mia is not a viable candidate. Cotta to love Utah
I will be sad on election night as Romney and Matheson will bose lose. Sadly the
best candidates don't always win. Utah will lose a great congressman simply
because he does not have an R after his name. Sometimes the person is more
important then the party. Sadly in Utah that does not look like the case. I
guess it is more important to have the worst member of congress that is
Republican for many people. She was an awful mayor and is not going to
Washington to be the best in congress. Thank you for all your hard work Jim
Matheson doesn't have an R, is correct. But he also lacks some of the
principles that he should be standing for and not just give in because he
can't take the pressure from Pelosi or others in his party. His
father may have been a diplomat and a politician but Representative Matheson is
a politician, only. He just needs to remind himself that it does make a
difference which side the bread is buttered.
Re: mightymite DRAPER, UT"Cotta to love Utah politics."That's the opinion of the politicians from Chicago where the Democratic
Political Machine rules supreme.
It's a healthy sign when Utah votes for not only a woman but a woman of
color. I don't agree with her politics however.
What many of you don't understand (somehow) is that when she talks about
getting rid of the Dept. of Education she is trying to do you and your children
a favor. The DoE is an entity in Washington, drunk on progressive ideologies
about ignoring the children of citizens in order to better serve migrant
populations, and basically entering into the curriculum all of the worst things
about ultra liberal ideology that you could possibly imagine. She's not
trying to rid us of teachers (I pay attention, as an educator) or cheat our
children. She wants our unique (and wonderful) state to take the responsibility
for educating our children away from desk jockeys, many of whom are not even
educators themselves, and place it back in our hands. So, Wlidcat... I'm
sure your intents are as pure as the driven snow, but you and others who pluck
that line are woefully (or willfully) misinformed...
Retire Matheson because he has been in office 12 years and does not live within
his district. How can anyone use this argument to vote for Mia Love?
IF 12 years are too long for Matheson, RETIRE Orrin Hatch who has
been in Washington DC 36 years. IF not living in his district is
unacceptable, why wasn't the same logic used against Jason Chaffetz who did
NOT live in the district he represented?People are NOT voting for
Mia Love because she is a woman of color...They are voting for her because she
is a Republican.
Mia Love is an attractive, smart and corageous young woman. Still my vote
already went to Jim Matheson who seems to know better what he is doing. I
watched the debates they had on KSL and honestly my husband and I were so amazed
at the ignorance this lady has when it comes to health care. I still don't
why she wants to get rid of student loans. That's the only way my husband
was able to go to med school and we are still paying those loans. I hope Jim
Of course my comments are derogatory because I don't think she is qualified
and out of her league as a socialist convert to represent democracy and rights
of citizens without government mandates and demands as a welfare state.
Utah is at the bottom with Mississippi in education support. That's very
sad. If Mia Love represents Utah in Congress, it seems to me this could get even
worse with Love's education spending (or lack thereof) philosophy
representing Utah in Congress.
Is the main reason this race is close because of the money put into Mia
Love's campaign from the far right of the republican party? Utah is
understandably the reddest state in the nation. Nevertheless, shouldn't
informed voters realize that Mia, despite her appeal and diversity contribution
to the party, is still being used by the far right's support?I
think Mia will win, but Matheson is not from the same cloth as Pelosi, Reed and
Obama. Please voters, will you understand that Matheson is the right fit for
Utah and has been decades now. Matheson is not on the far left.
Look at his history of service and voting record. Forget the negative ads to the
contrary. Forget the ads on both sides altogether. Educate yourself on the real
facts and consider what is at stake for Utah. It's easy to see
Mia Love as a breath of fresh air for Utah. Love has an amazing story. But she
represents politics that are contrary to her success. If elected, others trying
to duplicate her success story will be hard pressed to do so despite the work
hard message of becoming everything you can be.
