The strategy is obvious. Biden is purposely sacrificing himself. He HAS to be
the bad guy because Obama cannot be the bad guy. Most people voting for Obama
are suckered in by his likability. He cannot afford to risk looking mean. But
they anger other supporters when they do not attack Romney. So, Biden has been
assigned the job to be the mean guy.
And I'm sure that Ethel wrote a letter to the paper when Mitt Romney
smirked, talked over Jim Lehrer, and then told him to his face that he wanted to
"fire" him.As usual, conservatives can dish it out, but they
just can't take it. Consistent as always.
The natural tendency when hearing something ludicrous is to laugh, smile,
grimace, or gesture. That's what Joe Biden did when he heard the ludicrous
arguments made by Paul Ryan. He could have been more restrained, but then he
would have not been his true self. I appreciate his authenticity, if not his
style, but more importantly, I appreciate his obvious concern for the middle
class and the future of this country, as well as his defense of the Obama
administration against the misleading attacks from Paul Ryan. The critics of
Joe Biden's performance cannot rebut his stronger arguments, so they attack
his style. I prefer substance over style.
Joe Biden showed us exactly how the Obama administration handles important
matters - they laugh and joke and pretend that those things don't
matter.Joe Biden proved that he is not a statesman. He proved that
he is not presidential. He proved that he is a clown who laughs and smirks, who
interrupts - 81 times, who bullies and blusters.Do YOU want Biden to
be President? He's only a heart-beat away from that job. Do you want him
treating world leaders like he treated Ryan? Do you want him laughing at Iran
when they show the world that they have finally made an atomic bomb? I have never seen a "leader" melt down like Biden did - in front of 60
million viewers. He needs help - desperately.
Ethel, if Joe is the rudest, most boorish person you've seen on tv
you've missed Oreilly yelling 'shut up' any anyone he disagrees
with, or the absolute insane behaviour of glenn beck. I'm thinking Joe had
to smirk because that's probably the most polite way he could react to
being fed such nonsense. I'd bet without the shackles of publicity, Joe
would have responded differently, and wiped the floor with Ryan.
Is the right going to whine every time they lose a debate? Perhaps I
already know the answer to this question. They've been whining incessantly
since the last election.
I know Ethel! Rush Limbaugh is the worst! Rude, sneering, and talking rude to
and about women! Horrible!
"Biden was the most rude, crude person I have ever seen on TV."Ethel, the Biden/Ryan debate must have been your very first experience of
viewing TV in the United States of America. Talk about being out of the loop.
Or maybe Biden was calling Ryan out and Romney/Ryan supporters can't handle
someone not being totally in love with their candidates.
To William Gronberg 8:52 a.m. Oct. 13, 2012"Biden was the most
rude, crude person I have ever seen on TV."Ethel, the Biden/Ryan
debate must have been your very first experience of viewing TV in the United
States of America. Talk about being out of the loop.--------------------------Agreed. It's clear from her
comment that she missed Romney's behvior from the week before. Not only
was Romney not honest and truthful in his dealings during that debate, he acted
like an arrogant schoolyard bully. Biden laughed at (and heaped ridicule and
scorn on the absolutely false, ridiculous, luicrous comments Ryan made, and then
schooled Ryan as to the truth of the issues. Romney acted like a CEO in a board
meeting where the only thing the others in the eeting could say is "yes,
sir" and then tried to ride roughshod over anyone who dared to speak against
his positions (including bullying the moderator at the debate). Romney proved
by his actions that he would not well represent the United States and was not
fit to be president. His conduct was FAR wose than anything Biden did.
Great letter, but you're too kind to the "lovely lady narrator."
She had her OWN share of interrupting Paul Ryan. She repeatedly cut him off and
moved on to new topics just as Ryan was starting to set the record straight in
response to Biden's outbursts. It almost appeared that she had
decided beforehand that she couldn't let Ryan score any points against
Biden. Yes, Biden was disrespectful, but so was she.
Mike Richards: "Joe Biden showed us exactly how the Obama administration
handles important matters - they laugh and joke and pretend that those things
don't matter."No, Mike, Biden wasn't laughing at the
important matters, he was laughing at the ridiculous lies told by Mr. Ryan and
by the Republican ticket's willful ignorance of reality. President Obama
should have, but didn't, give the same treatment to Governor Romney during
their first debate. You have been living too long inside of the right
wing echo chamber. You think Ryan is an intellectual. He is far from it. Paul
Ryan is in fact merely what many Republicans think an intellectual is supposed
to sound like.
In US politics, NOTHING is as rude as the right wing talking heads, Hannity,
Limbaugh and Beck. It all begins with the right wing in the media.
Sometimes you need to be agressive to nail down moving targets. Many of these
targets have fluctuated from hour to hour. When you have campaign staffs
correcting the candidate 2 hours after they speak and on multiple occasions
don't you want to know exactly what his position is? It's time people
worry less about style and more about substance but I haven't seen that the
past 2 weeks.
re: Mike Richards"Joe Biden proved that he is not a statesman

againre: ShaunAgreed. What is in that Red Kool aid? Behavior of the GOP apologists behavior is mot entertaining/amusing.
I'll *almost* be sorry when the election is over
PeanutGallery: "It almost appeared that she had decided beforehand that she
couldn't let Ryan score any points against Biden."No, what
you think is "disrespect" is in fact a moderator doing her job. When a
question was asked of Ryan and Ryan's response was evasive, she challenged
him on it.You've been listening to too much FOX. You're
used to seeing and hearing right wing politicians being interviewed by fawning
sycophants. When Romney/Ryan say something demonstrably untrue, they just nod,
smile, and let it go.This is Sarah Palin all over again. When
intelligent questions reveal your VP candidate to be spectacularly unfit for the
job, instead of processing that information and acting accordingly, you lash out
at the question that made your candidate look bad. You're trying
to preserve your beliefs in the face of evidence that those beliefs are without
Who sends out these directives to the Republican base to write letters to the
editor expressing talking points ad nauseum? When an issue reaches the pages of
the newspapers or hits the airwaves, there suddenly appears this mass of
responses repeating talking points like these people don't have an opinion
of their own. And when you read or hear them, they all sound exactly the
same.Granted, this comes out from both sides of the political world,
but conservatives are much more disciplined and its minions are much more prone
to take up the banner and wave it wildly in the eyes so everyone can see. The
whole "Biden is disrespecful" charade has the taint of being manipulated
from some central source. The Republican noise machine is, if nothing
else, efficient. Last week it was "Romney is great!" and "Obama
failed!" This week it is "Biden has no manners!" We can easily
anticipate the deluge of letters coming to the DesNews once a news story breaks.
This is also understandable when you recognize that the DesNews advocates a
very conservative position on its editorial page. Something like a mini-WSJ or
Where was this writer when someone named Mitt ignored time limits, talked over
and interrupted Jim Leher and President Obama in the first Presidential
debate? It will be interesting to see if Mitt is rude enough to try
that when voters are asking questions next week.
@ one old man,Obama had FOUR MINUTES more time than Mitt Romney.
Obama failed to play by the rules. Obama cheated. The rules were known before
the debate started. Obama ignored the rules. He pretended that he could make
up rules "on the fly". All that he proved is that he was not prepared
and that he needed a 2nd grader on his staff to tell him to play "nice"
and to be fair.
Where do all you lefties come from. I thought Utah was a red state, but nine
out of ten comments come out of left field. You all are so wrong minded. It
would be so helpful if you would get a clue. Glen Beck keeps trying to clue you
in, and all you do is pull a Bully Biden.
I am neither lefty nor tea drinker. It felt very obvious to me that Joe Biden
won the debate. Congressman Ryan's persistent refusal to answer the
questions was frustrating to say the least. I truly wanted to hear his
positions, but he just kept reverting to right wing talking points without
addressing the question at all. It seemed to me like Ryan was actually hiding
his answers because he was afraid to turn off voters. That is definitely not a
winning strategy with swing voters. The party bases have been won. It's
time to show that one can relate to moderates.
Rude may, or may not, work in a debate but it won't win the hearts of
undecided voters on November 6th. Meantime our nation drifts like a ship
without a rudder while Obama is on a prolonged leave of absence from the White
