If we are now an oil exporting country explain to me why we buy oil anymore from
EJM. Because Venezualan oil is often cheaper than domestic oil. And the reason
it is cheaper is that much of the domestic oil we produce is from Alaska and the
Gulf and so logistically it gets a better price if sold in Japan and elsewhere
than it can if sold domestically. The other hard "socialist" truth is
that the oil industry in Venezuela is nationalized and can thereby be produced
without a need to "Maximize profit" while our domestic oil industry is
all about profit. It makes Venezuelan oil often more competitive. And, this
hard economic fact at least partially explains the intensity of some of this
nation's hatred of Chavez and the media's effort to demonize him at
every opportunity, as the Deseret News just did.
Mike, Chavez is just evil. No two ways around it. We are now exporting more
because of the Bakken Oil Reserves. Where is the hue and cry from both parties
to have the oil companies keep that oil at home then?
Mike,Have you ever read "Economics in One Lesson" by Henry
It's ironic that we push other countries toward democracy and then, when
they exercise it and their people elect someone we don't like, it suddenly
becomes another source of political contention in this country.Cases
in point, Egypt and Libya.
Very convoluted article though its conclusion that we need to pay more attention
to So. America is correct. There is no valid reason to be expending massive
monies on an irresponsible war in far away Afghanistan, while providing next to
nothing to support and foster open trade and prosperity in in the Western
Hemisphere. Chavez' led Venezuela is in a mess with massive debt even with
the income from oil exports. He spends that an much more. The fact is much of
the Venezuelan oil is not of the quality of that in the USA and is valued less
by world markets. Still the political system of Venezuela tries to push every
possible method to over price its oil actively participating in the cartel.
Just as a side note with regard to the article how is using public workers and
public money in the campaign fair? And, since when is Iran a regional country
in So. America?
EJM said: "Chavez is just evil. No two ways around it."Just
because he isn't one of our beloved dictators that the US installed
covertly, is no reason to call him "Evil" beside I thought you
conservatives reserved that for Obama?
EJM .. I stand by my comments. The Bakken oil reseaves about equal the Alaskan
reaserves, but Alaska will eventually be surpassed. But we still export more
because we can get a higher price in foreign markets than in domestic markets.
I suppose that evil is in the eye of the beholder, but it does seem that a
majority of the voters in Venezuala don't share your views.Bakken is great news, drill baby drill but we are still victims of market
conditions, and the oil from Chavez helps domestic prices at the pump.
The nerve of the guy, using oil company money give to the nation's
disadvantaged and for health clinics, home construction and even sports teams.
He should be like a real american business man and stash all the profits in the
Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes.
Rothbard...haven't read anything by that title, and given the title not
much interested in doing so. Have you read it?
