It's good news for the country. I hope Romney would agree.
"This is not what a real recovery looks like. We created fewer jobs in
September than in August, and fewer jobs in August than in July ... etc..
"You left out the most important part of Romney's quote...
It says unemployment dropped to 7.8% yet only 114k jobs were added. Thats
barely enough to keep up if not lag close behind population growth. So its clear to see the economy still is not on the right track.
"Figures don't lie, but...."By arbitrarily reducing the
number of people classified as job seekers, the employment figures have been
artificially skewed to make Obama look good. The truth is that his policies are
an utter failure, despite how his minions might try to spin the figures.
There are two different numbers used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to
measure the health of the labor market. There’s the payroll survey, which
collects data from businesses and government. The headline number here is quite
modest, suggesting that the U.S. economy added just 114,000 jobs in
September.BLS also publishes the household survey, which asks
individuals about their work situation. This is used to calculate the official
unemployment rate. And the household numbers were exceptionally strong this
month, showing 873,000 more employed Americans in September than in July.
That’s a massive boost, and explains why the unemployment rate plunged to
7.8 percent.The employment-to-population ratio also increased by 0.4
percentage points to 58.7 percent. That, too, is an encouraging sign. In the
past, the unemployment rate had fallen mainly because more Americans were giving
up on searching for work and dropping out of the labor force. Not this time. The
modest improvement appears to be real.(Washington Post)
Stock market has doubled since Mar. 2009 lows. Recession ended in June 2009.
I will vote for Romney, yet I do think things are getting better. We are
growing yet too slowly. Second terms are usually disasters; don't want
Exactly as Rush predicted many months ago!
They have been recording unemployment the same way for years so stop with the
"Obama obviously skewed the numbers" Man can you guys reach. It's
actually a good thing for the country but all you guys can do is complain. WAKE
UP! Sounds like you guys want the country to fail just so the "Chosen
One" Mitt can be president. Really is pathetic.
A simple question for all the Romney supports who claim Obama is ruining this
country, what will Mitt do to actually create jobs? Nearly all of his mentioned
policies, the few that he has actually articulated, are similar to the policies
of The G.W. Bush administration, does everyone forget where those policies led
this country? It wasn't long ago that everyone was talking about the
depression/the great recession. The economy is improving, the recoveries since
the late 1980s have taken longer for the country to return to the rate of
By the government's own admission, the data does not include the
underemployed or those who have given up. We all must admit that these are HUGE
numbers and a HUGE problem that has grown worse in the last four years. To
argue about 3 tenths of a point in the face of a 23 million person problem is
Here is why they adjusted the rate down. From the BLS Website:"In September, 2.5 million persons were marginally attached to the labor
force, essentially unchanged from a year earlier. (These data are not
seasonally adjusted.) These individuals were not in the labor force,
wanted and were available for work, and had looked for a job sometime in
the prior 12 months. They were not counted as unemployed because they had
not searched for work in the 4 weeks preceding the survey."It is reasons like this I go by the Labor participation rate and not the
unemployment rate. It is harder to skew numbers of people that are working.
Here is the Labor Participation rate per the BLS website over the last few
years.Sept 2007...66.0Sept 2008...65.9Sept 2009...65.1Sept 2010...64.6Sept 2011...64.1Sept 2012...63.6(not been that low
He finally got it back down to where it was when he took office and promised to
fix the economy. Woo hoo.....
From BLS:Unemployed:Sept 2011...13.5 M UE rate 8.8%Sept
2012...11.7 M UE rate 7.8%Good news right? Not really...People not in the labor force:Sept 2011...86 MSept 2012...88.6 M
(2.6 M or 3% increase)Persons who currently want a job:Sept
2011...5.9 MSept 2012...6.4 M (500K or 8% increase)Almost 1
Million people ages 16-19 left the labor force in Sept. That is why you see the
drop in UE rate. The average Labor participation rate from 2001-2008
was 66.5%. Average for 2009-2012 is 64.6% and has steadily decreased since 2009
with the low coming last Aug at 63.5%. That is more than just people retiring.
People are entering the workforce roughly at the same rate that people retire.
But, if you give up looking for work, then you are not counted. There are just
too many people that have given up. Sure this is the way it has always been
done, but there has not been this many people not looking for work in decades.
Obama to defense contractors preparing for massive layoffs, “ Do not send
layoff notices to your employees until AFTER the election and if you get sued,
the government (taxpayers) will pay your legal fees”. This is highly
illegal and immoral! And Obama gets away with it, time after time! This proves
these most recent unemployment numbers are cooked so Obama will look successful.
All you need to know about Barrack Obama’s character or lack of it!
Obama asking companies to hold back on lay-off notices till after the election,
while more coal mines are to be closed down. Please don't insult
our intelligence. The economy is still collapsing.
I've never understood why we give so much blame/credit to the President for
the state of the economy. People and businesses create jobs. Not Presidents.
The President can only promote policies, but even those can only be put into
place with a willing Congress. And even then, it may take several years for the
full effect of those policies to be felt. Pinning all the blame on the
President also ignores the actions of the Federal Reserve (which I believe has
far greater impact on both the day to day and long term economy) and ignores
conditions around the world that are outside the President's control.
Instead of looking for a President to "run" the economy or
"create" jobs, we should be asking them to do the things Presidents are
supposed to as outlined in our Constitution. Unfortunately, both major parties
have become too enamored with the powerful government unto itself that is the
modern day Presidency.
@Craig ClarkYou took the words right out of my mouth. Not long ago
the Romney campaign was trying to get Republican Governors to quit saying that
the economy was improving in their states, because it was hurting his election
campaign. That's crazy. As State governments begin hiring back police,
firefighters, and teachers we can accelerate the recovery considerably. Who
cares who gets the credit? We all win when people go back to work.
Also, maybe because some businesses are beginning to hire for the Holiday
shopping season? I'm sure if a comparrison were made, the next three
months would show an increase in employment, but then drop again come January?
The headline should read, "*Media Spin* gives President Barack Obama much
needed boost". Very conveniently one-sided analysis of the job situation.
Nice! We could have had an economy this good, just by doing NOTHING! We
didn't have to deficit spend 5 Trillion dollars over the last 4 years to
accomplish this! Now in December or late November, after the election, the BLS
will come out with the adjusted REAL numbers that show a much higher
unemployment rate. They just need to wait a couple of months so that no one is
really paying attention, just as they have done all year.
@ Mcdugall We could give you the specifics, but I'm afraid you would
just ignore or forget them 3 seconds later, like you've apparently done the
previous 20 times you've probably heard them. Lets just put it this way.
More then anything, he probably doesn't think he will actually create many
jobs by himself. I believe he looks at this as a situation where he (and
government) needs to give "job creators" the freedom, to accomplish
this. Get out of their way and allow them to do what they do best, don't
over tax and regulate-take away incentives, and don't demonize, and punish
their success. FYI avg. unemployment during the GWB presidency was about 5%. BHO
would give his right leg for those kind of numbers!
David King"People and businesses create jobs."Who creates the regulations, taxes, and fees?---Not people and businesses.A child can't even sell lemonade, and a boy wanting to have a paper
route can't do it.Obama can complain all he wants, but
who'se been in power the past four years?
@worf"Who creates the regulations, taxes, and fees?---Not people
and businesses."If there is a problem with a regulation or tax
it is the obligation of the people to make the necessary changes through their
representatives in Congress. The President doesn't write the law, and the
Congress should never allow the President to effectively write law. As for
businesses, it should be noted that many regulations are put in place at the
behest of businesses for their benefit, especially larger companies that know
they will be more able to adapt to costly regulations than smaller
competitors.I reject the notion that a President bears sole or even
majority responsibility for the state of our economy, whether good or bad. The
economy belongs to the people, who can make necessary changes through their
representatives in Congress. We need to stop waiting on an omniscient President
to solve all our problems. Neither Obama nor Romney can wave a wand or
unilaterally install the policies to save or destroy the economy of a country of
300 million people. One of the great things about America is a belief in
self-determination, but we've forfeited much of that to political saviors.
re:worfI'm betting many of the regulations business owners
might complain about are a result of state and local actions, not federal
regulations. The U.S. is consistently rated as one of the easiest
countries to do business in among other industrialized countries. Jobs primarily go overseas due to wage rates. The movement of jobs to other
countries won't change unless we are going to roll back wages to the wages
of a teenaged babysitter in 1970. The future of the U.S. lies in
the development of new technologies and having a highly educated and trained
Lets see, which is more rational: to believe that the economy is actually
recovering slowly, and that there was a slight uptick in jobs, probably due to
seasonal increases associated with the approaching holiday season...ORThat Obama has secret and almost magical control over the press,
the Labor Department, and everything else, and has suddenly called on his
minions to inflate the jobs numbers to compensate for his debate loss...Never mind that if he could have called for falsification of the jobs
report, why didn't he do it a long time ago, and why falsify it so
trivially? Why not go for it and falsify number to show unemployment below
3%?!I dunno... That second explanation sure looks reasonable,
Millions of Americans have "given up" looking for jobs?Sounds like those are exactly the people Mitt Romney was referring to in his
infamous 47% comment! And, of course, he said, "I don't have
to worry about those people!"
Do the math! Only the uneducated accept the figures published. Twenty-three
million unemployed, divided by 114,000 equals 0.5%, which Obama gave us. He
LEFT OUT the number of those who LOST the a job during September. Obama is a
liar. His "facts" supplied are not "facts" . He lied to us.
Rhe numbers don't add up. Ask a 5th grader.
600,000 new PART TIME jobs !! Oh boy. This economy is really humming along. Also
never mind the fact that the labor participation rate has shrunk to its lowest
level in 4 years. People leaving the work force and those who just quit looking
for work is a real celebration point. Team Obama and those who support him will
do anything - and I mean anything - to put lip stick on a chimp and attempt to
call him pretty. IF there were 600,000 new FULL TIME HIGH PAYING jobs added by
companies who were actually hiring then yes - this would be GREAT news but
sadly that is not the case. I don't think these little Obama tricks are
going to work anymore. 60 million people saw an inept bumbling lost president a
couple nights ago pitted against Mitt Romney and those who were undecided saw
everything they needed to see - finally!!
its all a grand conspiracy! sorry I just wanted to see what it was like to be a
conservative for a minute. the comments on this board are sadly predictable.
The responses demonstrate the continuation of the hope "the economy will go
bad so we can retake power that we lost when the economy went bad"
mentality. Hopefully after the election, the losers will not start another four
year Rush Limbaugh crusade ever again in our history.
Job numbers were doctored. Check the actual numbers with the US Department of
Labor. It is 14%.
D News before you print another lie the Obama administration is selling, please
check it for truth. I have loved the fact that inspite of all the main stream
media Obama huggers, you have stayed away from the "promote Obama no matter
Even if this were accurate, the Obama plan took us backwards 30 yards, then we
finallly made it back to the line of scrimmage......that's not progress.
