The church is a big, lumbering institution with so much history on its'
side that it can stick to it's guns no matter what. But it's not the
first time since Galileo that they might just be being stubborn for its'
I strongly desire for us to become a live-and-let-live world. I personally do
not care if you are gay, straight, or anything else. The way you behave in your
personal life has no imapct on me and the way I live mine. Love thy neighbor.
"They're serious," Reese said, "and they're not going to
back down."--- So are we, and we have time on our side."Society and its governing bodies should do everything in their power to
"encourage healthy and stable marriages," --- Unless
they're gay, of course, then you get to denigrate them and deny them their
Constitutional right to equal treatment by the government. Why not
"encourage healthy and stable marriages" for gays?""Maybe it's the particular way God is calling them to
holiness," --- Keep your god out of our government. We are a
secular society, NOT a Theocracy."I want to focus on the
importance of supporting marriage,"--- Then support it for
EVERYONE! Denying marriage to GLBT couples is not, absolute not,
It is disgusting how people use their religion to vent their own dark and ugly
feelings! I will never accept nor do I have to accept the lies that people
invent in the name of God! We are treated as if we have nothing to do with God,
but let me say that we all will have our turn. Do people think, that because we
are gay God does not hear us? He made us and you can better believe that He knew
what He was doing! Honestly, I know He will listen to me and being gay is
probably the last thing I need to worry about! These people say that they will
not give up! Well, what makes you think we will give up? I will live my life
with my family. I will believe in God and myself and most of all I will learn
love because without it we have nothing. We arre not garbage! He is my God as
well as He is your God! Just because you push us away does not mean that God
"Asked whether it was possible to be a gay man or a lesbian and a practicing
Catholic embraced by the church, his answer was adamant: "Certainly."
The key, he said, is chastity, the same challenge faced by any single
Catholic."Maybe it's the particular way God is calling them to
holiness,"It takes a lot of hard work and spiritual discipline. Certainly
our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters need to be supported in living out
their call to holiness." Archbishop Cordileone and
President Gordon B. Hinckly sound very similar: "People
inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and
lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. They
may have certain inclinations which are powerful and which may be difficult to
control. Most people have inclinations of one kind or another at various times.
If they do not act upon these inclinations, then they can go forward as do all
other members of the Church. If they violate the law of chastity and the moral
standards of the Church, then they are subject to the discipline of the Church,
just as others are" .
@windsor;Single heterosexuals can choose to marry if they so desire.
We cannot.I don't care if your religions never accept or
perform same-sex marriages. They have absolutely NO BUSINESS telling us that we
can't participate in secular benefits.Using your religion to
prevent GLBT marriages actually violates the First Amendment's Freedom of
Religion. The god I believe in doesn't care about the genders of a loving
couple. You don't believe in it, don't have one.
rflash, those who do not agree with you are dark and ugly? RanchHand,LGBT couples are not marriages. LGBT people CAN marry as long
as they follow the rules that apply to everyone else. Find someone of legal age
who is single and of the opposite sex who will have you, and you can marry them.
Those rules applies to EVERYONE, so that IS equal treatment.
RFLASH:Don't despair my brother, you know that you are a child
of God. You can rest assured in that knowledge. Even though many so
called Christians used the words of Paul to condemn homosexuals, they forget
that he was the first one to acknowledge his own limitations in the way he
talked and expressed himself."1 Corinthians 13 12 Now we see
things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see
everything with perfect clarity.[c] All that I know now is partial and
incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me
completely"I don't know why our Heavenly Father made some
of his children homosexuals. I just know he made them that way and I know that
he wants them to love and be loved.Someday we will know everything.
In the meantime we shouldn't let anyone to make us doubt of our human
dignity and divine destiny.
Marriage reflects the natural moral and social law evidenced the world over. As
the late British social anthropologist Joseph Daniel Unwin noted in his study of
world civilizations, any society that devalued the nuclear family soon lost what
he called "expansive energy," which might best be summarized as
society's will to make things better for the next generation. In fact, no
society that has loosened sexual morality outside of man-woman marriage has
survived. Analyzing studies of cultures spanning several thousands
of years on several continents, Chairman of Harvard University’s sociology
department, Pitirim Sorokin. found that virtually all political revolutions
that brought about societal collapse were preceded by a sexual revolution in
which marriage and family were devalued by the culture’s acceptance of
homosexuality. When marriage loses its unique status, women and
children most frequently are the direct victims. Giving same-sex relationships
or out-of-wedlock heterosexual couples the same special status and benefits as
the marital bond would not be the expansion of a right but the destruction of a
