Home and home with who? I can see why they announced this Sunday night at
I know we want a cupcake for next years schedule, but can't we get a 1 year
deal or a 2 for 1. Maybe the BYU brand is not very strong after all.
And I thought Utah had a rough weekend
Can someone PLEASE explain to me again why we are independent?
Texas did a home and home with WyomingRelax............BYU does home
and homes to get out all accross the Country to recah their fan bases. It's good will and PR.
What's wrong with the home and home? BYU needed a lesser team on its
schedule since the schedule is very tough. It also fullfills the goal of playing
around the country so fans that don't get the chance to attend a BYU game
With Texas, Boise State, Utah, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin (all good teams); and
Houston and Utah State (solid teams) already on the schedule - we need a game
like this. I expect both Hawaii and Washington State to be better next year
also. I hope this game is scheduled for Week 1, which is still open.I hope Hill is ready to go next year, and we are able to replace our D line.
We should be solid at all other positions next year.
Expect this one to be on BYUtv. Whatever.
@ eastcoastcoug - BYU is independent because the top conferences such as the Big
12 and the Pac 12 have not offered BYU an invitation to join, and independence
so far is better than what the lower conferences who want BYU, such as the MWC
and the Big East, have to offer. Not that complicated.
eastcoastcougYou're always whining, but I've never, ever,
seen you offer one single viable alternative to Independence.Do you
really think that staying in the MWC with their horrible television deal was
preferable to Independence and having an 8-year deal with ESPN?Who
would BYU be playing next year if the Cougars were still in the MWC? Are New
Mexico, Wyoming, and UNLV any better than Middle Tennessee State?Instead of constantly whining, why don't you give us your realistic
alternative to Independence?
@Riddles in the DarkYes, New Mexico, Wyoming, and UNLV are all
better than Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders lost to McNeese State this
year of FCS.I think playing in the MWC would be better than
independence. I think BYU could finish third or fourth in that league this
year--behind Boise State, Nevada, and Fresno State.I think BYU
dropped LA Tech off the schedule as they were afraid to lose that game, which
they would have for sure. USU and SJSU may be tough games for BYU this year. I
still like BYU to beat USU as the Aggies always lose in Provo. If USU
has any pride, and they don't, they should now only schedule BYU
home-and-home only or not at all since BYU does home-and-home with Sun Belt
teams.Get used to more Sun Belt, C-USA, and MAC games to fill up the
schedule as has been foretold. The Big 12 would have been great. Better join
the Big East now or have to go crawling back to Craig Thompson on bended knee in
the future.BYU independence--Go get'em!
Wildcat"New Mexico, Wyoming, and UNLV are all better than Middle
Tennessee State."Really?Wyoming lost to Toledo and
Cal Poly and barely beat Idaho in OTNew Mexico was destroyed by Texas and
Texas Tech and only beat NM State by 13 pointsUNLV lost to Northern
Arizona and Washington StateCurrent Sagarin Rankings#104
Wyoming#124 New Mexico#127 Colorado State#128 Middle Tennessee
State#131 UNLVYes, it's easy to see how much better off
BYU would be playing the bottom half of the MWC than playing lowly Middle
So I guess this means that Weber State and Idaho State were not available?
Wildcat"Get used to more Sun Belt, C-USA, and MAC games to fill
up the schedule as has been foretold."Don't most power
conference teams fill their schedules with one or two teams from lesser
conferences? Just be grateful that BYU was willing to invite your Wildcats to be
one of those schedule fillers. As an Independent, BYU will also get
used to playing Texas, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Boise
State, Utah (when the Utes aren't runnin' scared), Nebraska, and many,
many other quality programs. The biggest issue with playing Utah
State home-and-home isn't the quality of their program, it's the
miniscule size of their stadium and fan base that makes it impossible for the
Aggies to guarantee a decent gate for visiting teams.
"So I guess this means that Weber State and Idaho State were not
available?"No, I'm sure they're still available if
Northern Colorado is already booked.
@B CI bet Riley Nelson isn't glad that Weber State got invited
to play at Provo--poor kid has never been the same since! Yes some
schools play one or two games of lesser conferences. Some actually play the
best game available instead of going for 7-8 green light games a year as per
Bronco's request.2013 games: Texas and GT at home, that is nice
along with Middle Tennessee, Boise State, and Utah. Notre Dame, Hawaii,
Wisconsin, Houston, USU, and Washington State on the road 2014
games: Houston, Hawaii, Southern Miss, USU at home. Texas, Boise State, Middle
Tennessee, UCF on the road Yeah that is worth being independent.2015 games: Boise State and Utah State at home. Southern Miss, Hawaii,
Nebraska on the road Anyone can schedule big teams for one-game road
agreements. Idaho State played Nebraska this year, USU played at Wisconsin, FAU
played at Alabama, etc.Props to Utah and TCU for stepping up! Big
12 would be much better for BYU--but that might mean some tough years. Cougars
tucked tail and ran from LA Tech on the road this year--that is why independence
is great! BYU in retreat!
Scheduling MTSU is probably the only way they'll get games out that way. I
don't see the SEC (other than maybe Ole Miss) being willing to play them.
They want to be a national team playing all across the country. I'm sure
BYU fans in Tennessee will show up in droves. Also if you want recruits from the
area to watch you play, this is another way to get them to the games instead of
having them fly in for a home game.
BYU's 2013 schedule is more challenging than probably any other. So the Y
fans support the need to schedule a team such as Middle Tenn. State. Yet when
the U said they needed to schedule a "lessor" team in 2014 when the U
plays 9 PAC-12 teams including Oregon and Stanford and as one of three out of
conference games - Michigan. What was the Y fan's reaction. Afraid to
play the Y etc. But scheduling Mid Tenn State for 2014? Look at the few games
scheduled. Do you really need a "lessor" opponent when you have so few
opponents? Predictable "fan" reaction - critical of other
teams; justifiable for your own!
Tennessee State???? Are they serious??!! What is wrong with our athletic
depatment! They are not even 1A, they are in the Missouri Valley in 1AA. If
they were coming here for a paydate I would understand but they did a 1 and 1?
Is this a joke? We should get two wins from the Tigers, or 1AA Kittens.
@GoBYUandCardsMTSU is an FBS team (1A & 1AA no longer exist) and
are members of the Sun Belt Conference. What I think is weird about
this deal is that BYU refuses to do a home-home with Utah State due to the size
of USU's stadium. Yet MTSU's stadium is only slightly bigger and is
never full. Wouldn't it be cheaper and more appealing to take on the
Aggies in Logan?
I thought Tennessee State played where the Titans play, and that place seats
well over 60K. That may have been why the did that.
1984 was a long time ago. There are a few people who need to realize that the
past is over. I am very familiar with Middle Tennessee, and my wife is at BYU.
They are members of the FBS Sun Belt Conference and typically do very well
having defeated Maryland and Vanderbilt over the past few years and caused fans
of Alabama, Virginia, and others to sweat bullets. Utah State knows MTSU very
well. They lost to them more often than not when they were Sun Belt members.
Yes, they lost to McNeese, but color me unimpressed with a meager victory over
the absolute worst team in the PAC-12 and FCS Weber who also lost to McNeese.
When I think about the principles for which BYU was founded and then see these
arrogant, self-righteous comments from people who associate themselves with the
school and thus the LDS Church, it is no wonder fans of BYU opponents love to
attack the Church and BYU's Honor Code. A little bit of humility and grace
sure would be nice and would go much further.
@ GoBYUandCardsTennessee State does play at LP field. MIDDLE
Tennessee State plays in a stadium on its campus that holds 31,000 and has
literally never been completely full.@BYU_ConvertUSU and
MTSU only played twice as sun Belt Conf. members and they split the series 1-1.
As Sun Belt members perhaps. MTSU is 2-1 against USU between 2002 and 2004.
USU never won in Murfeesboro. My point is that BYU would do well not
underestimate what Middle Tennessee can do no matter what their record looks
like. And Wildcat from Ogden, Wyoming UNLV, and New Mexico are
beyond pathetic and these schools don't recruit the Southeast like MTSU
does, and everyone knows the southeastern schools play better football than
schools in any other region of the country. I would take MTSU over those three
schools including CSU-Fort Collins any day of the week.
This Tennessee State stuff is confusing.
Middle Tennessee just beat Georgia Tech in Atlanta. I hope we can beat Georgia
Tech when we play them. Middle Tennessee will be a quality opponent for BYU.
