Utah among the states trying to find ways to spot at-risk drivers
In defense of older drivers my belief is they are not more hazardous or less
safe than younger drivers. More cautious they are and many drugs they do take.
But drugs is not limited to the elderly, what about all the teens on
hallucinatory drugs to maintain socially controllable children that suppress and
slows down there mental processing abilities? The elderly are not as
serious a problem as is portrayed. Physical abilities are not as restrictive or
relative either, impatience, rash judgments, impaired driving is more a young
persons problem than the elderly. I don't think there are anymore
grandfather licenses in existence and most elderly still active are from the
50's and they all received drivers training that makes today's drivers
training a pathetic joke. Older drivers went through a different process of
getting their first license, they had learning permits which developed safer and
more experienced responsible drivers.New drivers should be required
a 6 month temporary permit before they are licensed.Make it
mandatory for parents to help children learn and save lives and improve driver
safety, inconvenience is no excuse to kill their children or neighbors.
You will be too old to to drive too someday, if you are lucky. What are you
doing to place yourself in a position to remain independent when that
happens?I'm planning to relocate to a walkable community near
shopping, transit corridors, and places where older people might socialize. I
also do lots of walking now to be sure I don't lose the ability to do so as
I get older.
Why the national push to standardize license requirements. Drivers licenses are
the responsibility of the individual states, and nearly all drivers are familiar
with their own states requirements. Moving to a 'national' standard
will actually create more confusion, with no real benefit.
