You can expect dixie to compete when the refs call 9 flyer penalties in the last
quarter (6 in a row) and one on hurricane. You tell me who was on hurricanes
Very hard fought game. I thought that both teams showed heart, skill and
talent. Happy that my Tigers won but also feel for Dixie. They played well,
have the potential to do great things this season and are downright scary when
Barney is throwing the ball or scrambling. I know that it's
impossible to be impartial when you're a fan but I felt the officiating
impacted the game negatively for both teams but especially for Hurricane. I
also found myself thinking that if I was Dixie I'd be upset about this call
or that as well. They disrupted any type of flow or momentum for both teams,
They second guessed themselves a few times as well. I don't expect them to
be perfect, but consistant and not present in every other play would be
appreciated. I can't speak to the unsportmanlike conduct penalties as I
wasn't on the field but those are very rare for a team coached by Homer and
I hope that if they were legit that the offenders will learn from it and do
better next time.Good luck Dixie and Great Job Tigers!!
Congrats to Hurricane for showing they have been their and done that. Barney is
for real and should get the props for making Dixie what they are. There was more
people their at the game last night then the championship game last year, what a
game. Hurricane,JD,SF,Dixie,DH are the top 5 in 3A not Stansbury for when you
play a real game and not practise then the stats count but they have played
schools that are what 3-17 and you call that a game lol.
Hurricane great game last night. Here is what I took from the game.
Hurricane's running game is still top notch and almost impossible to stop.
I really didn't think that Dixie was going to be as good as they were
against the returning champs. Dixie's offense is just as explosive. I
felt like Dixie could've won, however, props to Hurricane for making the
big plays when they had to. It's unfortunate their were so many penalties
in the game. Dixie will have its hands full with Desert Hills, and needs to
shrug off the loss and put just as much effort into to preparing for Desert
Hills. It would be fun to see an all Region 9 semi-final this year.
@Trav22someone still mad about the game last week in Cedar?
I agree with @d0wns0uthStansbury has routed weak competition. Since
they have a student intern who writes for them, they get good publicity. Any
examination of Stansbury is that they are similar to Granger--a team who thrived
against weak opposition--who just got thumped by Juan Diego. It will be very
interesting when Desert Hills is at Stansbury for their homecoming. Hurricane, Spanish Fork, Juan Diego, Dixie, Desert Hills are clearly very
good. Those teams have faced 4A & 5A competition. Stansbury needs to
schedule some of the local 4A & 5A schools to get more respect.
I hate when the refs decide the gameLast night was a classic example of
the bad refereeing in region 9.Dixie had been scoring on almost every
drive and got the ball back at the 50 yard line with 3 min left in the game then
the refs called at least six straight penalties on them. Then Dixie has get
huge yardage and throws a long pass and has their wide receiver held so bad that
a bat could have seen it and they don't call it pass is intercepted game
over. Now I see why they haven't lost there in 5 years.
I am going to try to say this again and see if DesNews does not deny me... The
atmosphere was great, I don't think Tiger Stadium has been that loud since
the '05 game of Hurricane vs. PV. All players, both from Hurricane and
Dixie, played hard and left it all on the field. They should all be proud. I
thought the referees were second guessing themselves a lot. There were many
calls that they had to do a double-take on. Many calls, in my opinion, could
have gone either way. It was a great region 9 game. This next part is for the
editors at D-News: I don't feel that this ref's bit is a "Personal
Attack." I would say this to their face in a normal conversation. In fact,
I personally work with one of the refs on the team last night, and I plan on
conversing with him about a few calls on Monday. Thank you for your time.
@southpride56The biggest bad call by the refs were the blown call on
the muffed punt that gave Dixie the ball on that same possession. The ball was
laying on the ground when the ref blew it dead and said Dixie had possession
then the Tigers jumped on it which would've all but sealed it. And about
those penalties... those holds were so bad that the refs HAD to call them
because it was on the guy closest to the qb that affected the play. Holding was
happening all night by Dixie as well as illegal chop blocks that went
overlooked. Two good teams with way too many penalties on BOTH sides but not the
reason Hurricane won.
@Sampson - could not agree more Stansbury has played teams that have a combined
3-17 record and have given up over 400 points. Just like last year they might
go undefeated in that region, although I think Morgan may beat them, and they
will loose in the first round.
Agree with amanap. Dixies 1st 2 scoring drives had stalled out deep in their
own territory, but were miraculously helped along by questionable calls. The
muffed punt, the horrible pass interference call in the third and Dixie wouldnt
have even been in the game by the forth quarter. The questionable calls got so
bad, that the entire Hurricane section would start to boo before ever finding
out who the penalty was even on... it was just expected that it would be on
Hurricane. That isnt to take anything away from Dixie. They took every
opportunity that the refs gave them, and kept themselves in the game. They
proved that they have a very explosive offense. But to say that the refs
decided the game with the holding calls at the end of the game is ridiculous.
Dixie had been holding all night long. And the refs were the ones who prevented
Hurricane from deciding the game much earlier.
If you want to discuss the terrible ref calls in this game go watch the game
again on voddov and notice the holding and blocks in the back that Dixie got
away with on almost every play... The last quarter is how the entire game should
have been called. If you don't want holding called, then don't do it.
Dixie ot away with a lot last night. Great showing for both teams, Go Region 9!
Also UHSAA, get some new referees.
Let's pile on Stansbury if they get beat by Desert Hills. Until then, I
think they deserve some respect. If they were barely beating these bad teams
then I would be concerned. But they are not. And even if they aren't as
good as Hurricane or Dixie, is there any shame in that? These are darn good
The refs sucked, both teams did great! Hurricane won, despite Dixie holding all
night long and chop blocking.
Bitter aren't we Chris!!!
Re: sunnyjsandersI'm not sure if the chop blocking you
referred to was on the line, or if it was a receiver doing it out wide. I saw
holding though on both sides. Unfortunately Dixie did it at the worst time,
which could have been the winning drive. They'll need clean up their game
in the future. By the way cut/chop blocking is legal in high school on the
line.In the high school game Blocking Below the Waist is Not allowed
outside the free-blocking zone. Within the zone it is permitted by linemen of
either team buy they may only block opposing linemen. per rule 2-3-7 &
2-17-2. The Free Blocking zone is defined by a zone that is 3 yards on each side
of the ball and 4 yards wide on each side of the line. Only players who are on
the line and in the zone may block below the waist. Only offensive players who
are on the line and in the zone may block in the back or clip. The zone exists
only while ball is in the zone.
What this game tells me is that Region 9 is totally up for grabs. Hurricane
dominated last year but that is not the case this year. What a great time to be
a spectator in Region 9. I also feel that JD and SF are going to be right up
there in the playoffs. I am totally siked and can't wait to see what
happens each Friday night. PV better come up with a win against Cedar our last
year might be repeated.
