Well, totally unscientific, but still interesting. Seems to support the
anecdotal evidence I have seen that some Ute fans are Ute fans because they hate
BYU. Too bad we don't have a much bigger sampling to see if that is true.
It looks like the opposite of the board postings where the general
trends are Ute fans saying they don't care about the rivalry because they
have moved on and BYU fans saying they would like the rivalry to continue. But
then those posting on the news sites are a very small minority of both BYU and
Unfortunately, this doesn't jive with all the comments a few weeks back
when Utah signed for the Michigan series and dropped BYU. Then many commentors
strongly said they would rather do the Michigan games than BYU. Sometimes
rivalry die when one of the schools can say, I am better than you because I am
able to schedule Michigan or in BYU's case Notre Dame. Maybe both schools
should always save one game for the rivalry and then play others. On
another point, the hate factor makes this rivalry very ugly. Throwing stuff and
yelling at each other at games is just flat out ugly not worthy of either
school. Two excellent universities throwing stuff at each others. disgusting.
I say Utah should be more interested in beating USC for the Pac12 title and ROSE
BOWL. So, this doesn't matter to them win or lose to BYU. Of course most of
those trolls would laugh at me.For BYU, I say win both and the rest
of the season to get a shot for bcs game. No, not the NC which will never happen
because bcs commish will say so.
An interesting twist to the rivalry is that Cougar fans that are Utah residents
are seeing the UU spend their tax dollars to plaster the Pac 12 logo all over.
Why should any BCS team be recieving state subsidies when they are the
beneficiaries of billion dollar TV deals?
So according to the poll in the article, we can appease the most fans (Cougars
and Utes alike) by having BYU beat Utah and have Utah beat USC. Let's do
