As an ASU fan, I always enjoy seeing a little humbling of a PAC 12 team. I look
forward to watching Utah make a bigger statement this season as well. The
last thing college football needs is to have one or two divisions totally
dominate the game. And based on today's games, I think college
football is alive and well.I love college football!!!
Conference of champions week one:Nevada beats Cal (at Cal)Colorado State beats Colorado (at Colorado)BYU beats Washington StateStanford squeaks by San Jose State by 3 in a low scoring game. (at
Tommy, as I said, I like seeing equality in college football. But if
you're going to mock the conference of champions, which they are, please
include all the PAC 12 games. Also, you should list your team if
we're going to compare teams and conferences ;)Championships
come in cycles, and we are far and above the conference of champions. We've been down for a few years, but I suspect USC is going to make some
noise this year.UoA won the college world series in baseball this year.So till someone passes us....First week:ASU-rollsUSC-rollsWashington-winningUCLA-wins Utah-rollsOregon-rollsOregon stateJust sayin
"BYU kept Washington State out of the end zone" -- DNNot
true, Washington State kept themselves out of the end zone.TD called
back on a holding call.46 yard pass at the 1 called back on a holding
call.8 play drive, TO in the red-zone. Just sayin.
Uteology, did you attend the game or are you just wearing your Crimson-colored
glasses again? I didn't see one BYU fan say they wre impressed that Utah
could handle Northern Colorado, a team that was 0 - 11 last year, so why the
fuss about a good defensive outing by the BYU Cougars? Methinks you are making
up for Chris B who suddenly seems (is) irrelevant since his "mark it
down" prediction of the BYU-WSU game was blatantly false. Save up your
energy for Utah State game comments because they might surprise you, big fella.
Uteology:Tuel would have been sacked if not for the holding call.
No touchdown.Just saying.
The way Ogletree plays and talks reminds me of Brady Poppinga and other great
defensive leaders from years past. The fact that he's the #2 guy on
defense this year (behind Van Noy) speaks volumes to the level the BYU defense
has been raised. I have high hopes for the Cougs this year.
Look, I don't like moderates, I hate being a moderate, but let me get in
the middle here.Ogletree,s comments are a little blustery, but he
plays the game, what do you expect. But making excuses against his comments is
trite and petty at best. Just like discounting Utah's win over Alabama. So what don't we know? We don't know how good this defense
really is, and we don't know how good or bad wazzu's team in
transition is. But we KNOW minus yards rushing against a bcs team,
even a bottom dweller is impressive. We know that Marquiss is a
lights out receiver, and if his two plays that got called back had not, he would
have had a good night in a losing effort. We know that Tuel has been
a decent to good qb in the past, but Thursday night, he couldn't find
anyone to throw to except his outlets. So either wazzu has no other receivers
to speak of, or pass defense was, dare I say, athletic, talented and fast. For choir boys.
toosmartforyou,Are you wearing your blue-colored glasses as well?
We knew that your BYU fan base would not be impressed with Utah's win over
Northern Colorado. Utah's fan base will not be impressed with BYU's
(most likely) wins over Weber State, San Jose State, Idaho, and New Mexico
State, either. If you want to compare scheduling, BYU's is much weaker
than Utah's.As far as Utah's game against USU, yes it will
be a tough challenge. USU has progressed light-years under Coach Anderson. USU
will most likely be tough for both Utah and BYU.
I am a big BYUfan, and I HOPE USU will be tough for both BYU and the U.
Marquess Wilson is one of the best receivers in the country and he would have
given any secondary in the country trouble, and he was kept in check by
BYU's "slow" secondary. Jordan Johnson, a sophomore who is new to
the game, jumped a route and almost returned it all the way back to the house.
Coulda woulda shoulda for Washington State. They could have got in
the endzone a couple of times. Okay, so then they would have scored two
touchdowns, and the score is 30-14.Well if BYU would have been
perfect in red zone efficiency then the score is 42-14. Wazzu dropped
interceptions, BYU dropped interceptions too. These things have a way of coming
out in the wash. For week 1, that was a stellar performance in a lot of ways. Also "wazzu would have got in the endzone without the holding
calls" isn't an excuse. You execute as a team. The touchdowns
weren't legit because BYU was being held.BYU needs to work on
their run blocking which they will have a chance to practice against Weber St.
They also need to improve red zone efficiency. Other than that, great win.
This BYU defense is special, and is going to be a top 15 defense again. It is
the offense I am worried about, and the Wazzou game did not do much to alleviate
my concerns. While they looked pretty good in the 1st half, they were pathetic
in the 2nd half, producing only 6 points with 4 trips into the red zone, and
only 20 yards rushing. The O-line in particular looked anemic in the 2nd half.
And Wazzou does not have a very good defense. Utah, Boise St, Notre Dame and
Georgia Tech will have much better defenses so this offense better improve,
RE: azrodsHey could you include with your list of "rolling"
pac 12 teams, who they steamrolled? Just saying. Also thanks to all
u fans who can't leave BYU alone. Definitley BYU is the team we ALL look
Just wondering, is this about BYU or those TROLLS!
I am a BYU fan, but I feel any chest thumping over this game may be premature.
Winning this game was like beating Duke, who by the way throttled their
competition too. If 6 points being score makes the defense upset, then they
need to be prepared to be really upset this season. I really hope they are not
expecting to be able to hold the rest of the teams to scores like this. The other big concern I have for the Y was there red zone office in the
second half was terrible. To dominate this year they will need to be able to
execute for 60 minutes. The cougars look very promising but there is lots yet
to be done.
if any ute fan wants to make light of BYU's "WAC" schedule, just take note of Stanford's game against San Jose St.
Tom in CAVallejo, CAConference of champions week one:Nevada beats Cal (at Cal)Colorado State beats Colorado (at Colorado)BYU beats Washington StateStanford squeaks by San Jose State by 3 in a

stinker.CSU & CU is a rivalry game where anything can happen. Just
like the 54-10 beat down at LES last season.BYU beat WSU, to be expected
with a 1st year coach.
So, two weeks from now we will comparing defenses again. Regardless of how badly
Utah State may beat Utah, it all comes down to 9/15. Let's
WACpaddledBYU is 6-1 versus San Jose State in the last 50 years and
hasn't lost to the Spartans since the 60's.Utah on the
other hand is 0-7 versus Washington, including last season's beat down at
home.BYU is 4-4 versus Washington, including BYU's win in 2010.Utah is also 1-6 lifetime versus the SLC YMCA.Just
