Why is it that politicians never lie? They always "misstate" things or
"misspeak." Why can't they simply fess up and say they lied about
something? Ryan "misstated" his claim of his marathon time, then tried
to back pedal and say he should have rounded up to four hours and not three? In
the interview he didn't even round his time. What else has he
"misstated" in order to satisfy his ego?
This is another example of his lying problem. Why lie about something like this?
Okay, compare anything that VP nominee Paul Ryan says against anything that VP
Joe Biden says.Ryan may have unintentionally misstated a trivial
detail about an event that took place 22 years ago. Biden cannot remember where
he is today. Or, recall "You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts
unless you have a slight Indian accent.... I'm not joking." --Joe
BidenOr Obama's claim that he was going to cut the deficit in
half in his first term, when instead he has nearly doubled the entire national
debt run up by all his predecessors combined. As Biden would say,
"That is a Big ... Deal!" not Ryan's misspeak.
No one who's run a marathon, especially a single marathon, ever forgets
their time. To 'misspeak' by over an hour is simply a lie.
This got categorized as 'sports'?
Accuracy is important. Give the man the benefit of the doubt. He and his
opponents need to get on with talking about issues that are of greater
importance than marathons.
This speaks, not too well, to his character and to the judgement of the person
who selected him as his running mate. When you add this to the many other
"misstatements" of Ryan's Republican Convention speech, a pattern
emerges for anybody that is not blind to see.
Paul Ryan is a scary guy... he has absolutely no regard for the truth and his
economic plan is heartless.
As a former runner I will state as a FACT that no one accidentally
"misstates" their running times. The reason that this story is
making the news is that the Romney/Ryan ticket is rapidly gaining the reputation
as a couple of people who aren't playing straight with the American people.
(See todays Kathleen Sullivan editorial) From Mitt's MIA tax returns, to
Ryan's misleading statements about Medicare cuts, the perception is that
you have to fact check everything these two say!
Once again we see the character of this man! Everyone, including ALL his
critics, have made mistakes and misstated something in their lives! When people
of character do that, they correct their mistakes and move on, learning from
them. People without much character (we all know who they are) do just the
opposite! I respect Ryan for displaying his character in this manner. When Joe
Biden does that, I will have respect for him too but I don’t expect that
to ever happen, do you?
None of this has anything to do with others, only Ryan and his dubious
integrity. Dragging other names into this is only rationalization of his
inability to be honest.
@ MountanmanRyan did not "correct himself". He was corrected by
Runner's World magazine and admitted his falsehood after he was found out.
People "correct themselves" before they are found out. Once found out,
you are in damage control as Ryan appears to be. He put out a fairly specific
number. It was demonstrably false.
I think some of you are setting a very high bar that Obama/Biden are not capable
of reaching.Obamacare-it's a tax, it's not a tax,
it's constitutional as a tax, but it's still not a tax. Just on Tuesday, when Obama was referring to a fact-check about something the
Romney campaign said, he lied about the fact check. He quoted the Romney
campaign as saying, "We won’t have the fact-checkers dictate our
campaign. We will not let the truth get in the way."When in
reality the spokesman said, "These fact-checkers come to those ads with
their own sets of thoughts and beliefs. We’re not going to let our
campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."Would I prefer if no one
lied? Of course! Do I care about his marathon time? Not one little bit.Do I care what Obama tells me about my taxes? Yes, and I would hope that
everyone American does, too.
@ Mountanman: Here's the thing - when Ryan "corrected" his
"misspeak," he never said he was wrong, or mistaken, or anything like
that - he said his rounding was off and he should have rounded a time just over
four hours to four hours, not to less than three hours. Now, I
don't know where you studied math and/or if you do better at math than you
do at spelling, but when I was taught rounding, I was taught that you go to the
closest number. If you have a time more than four but less than five, your
choices are four or five - not less than three. And since his whole
thing is his plan to fix the economy, if he is unable to do the simple rounding
needed to accurately state his marathon time, why on earth should we believe he
is capable of the more difficult math needed for something as complex as the US
budget over the next several years? As a side note, when Kerry was
being called on his simple "misspeaks" (which were much easier explained
than this) or when someone comments on Obama's state misspeak, do you
defend as vigorously?
Again, I admire Ryan or anybody else for coming clean and admitting their
mistakes. Has Obama admitted any mistakes? Has Joe Biden? Has Nancy Pelosi? Did
Ted Kennedy ever come clean? If they ever do, I will be anxious to allow them
the same respect that I hold for those who do! Until that happens, I must
evaluate each person’s fitness to lead this nation on that principle.
One more thing; according to Rev. Wright (a staunch Obama supporter), Barrack
Obama offered him 150K for him to shut his mouth about Obama’s
controversial anti capitalist background. Has Obama EVER come clean on that one?
Which matters most to our nation, Ryan’s misstatement about a time he run
in some marathon or what Obama covered up?
Mountanman or MountainmanHayden, IdahoWhat would be your
source that "According to Rev. Wright (a stauch Obama supporter) Barrack
Obama offered him 150K for him to shut his mouth about Obama's
controversial anti capitalist background."Is it a creditable
source? I hope it is not one of these e mail I receive all the time from my
friends that claim Obama is a Muslim or not born in the United States or he
refuses to salute the flag. I usually check snopes.com and send it back.If it is true which I doubt I would really like to know the source of
such a comment.
Every person who posts here needs to read the following article in todays DN.Rodney K. Smith: Politics, partisanship and the pursuit of truth in
Mountanman, Wright is not a staunch Obama supporter. Why do you believe Wright
is telling the truth? He very well could be lying. Do you have any proof his
claim is accurate?1aggie, you are right, It seems that
Representative Ryan may just be a serial liar.
@hillboyRev. Wright? You want to go there?Fair enough. The guy who made the offer was not President Obama. But why tell the truth when it is so easy to lie.By your
logic(?), ryan and romney should be blamed for everything that every right wing
nut-job says or does.Keep it coming!LOL.
Reverend Wright, mountain man? I think you are stretching a little thin to try
to justify Ryans behavior don't you?
Spring Street. Just comparing behavior between two men! Its amazing what some
people are willing to accept in the behavior of their own and how they use
completely different standards for judging the character of those of the other
side! We have the most corrupt, most disingenuous occupant of the White House in
the history of America and you guys worry about Ryan’s marathon time?
To William Gronberg 12:09 a.m. Sept. 2, 2012Accuracy is
important. Give the man the benefit of the doubt. He and his opponents need to
get on with talking about issues that are of greater importance than
marathons.------------------------This is about a MUCH
bigger issue than a marathon. It is about whether Paul Ryan is a truthful and
honest person. It shows that he isn't.
@ MountanmanWhen you were a little Mountanboy and your mommy caught
you in lie, did deflection (pointing out that your brother or sister has told
lies or that other people lie too) get you off the hook? It amazes
me how so many people who should just "own" things here on these boards
try to deflect and claim that "everybody does it, so it's okay",
when most of us learned, as little children, what a losing (puerile) strategy
you are trying to employ. The only "world-class" marathon
time Ryan is capable of is a marathon of lies.
