Why send Love? All I've seen is an empty suit with a highly inadequate
understanding of the issues. Could it be because she looks different on the
outside? Inside she is tea party, and after the last election, we really
don't need to do that again.
Why would it be "sad" to fire Jim Matheson? So what if his
"family" has been involved in politics for decades? We don't have
royalty in America. Jim Matheson was elected to represent all of the people of
Utah. He chose to represent a small part of Utah and to vote against the
Congressmen who represent the conservative values of Utah. We are not a house
divided, but Jim Matheson has divided Utah's vote. He went to Washington
to further his agenda, not to further Utah's.Now he's
telling college students that America owes them a college education. He has
joined Obama in telling students that all they have to do is pluck the American
dream off the tree and that some "rich guy" will pay the bill.Mia Love tells the opposite. She tells us of opportunity not of entitlement.
She tells us to work, not to covet. If you believe in government
handouts and deficits, then vote for Jim Matheson. If you believe in
working HARD to pursue your dreams, then vote for Mia Love. What's it going to be? Which America do YOU want.
The entire point of redrawing our congressional districts was to ensure that Jim
Matheson could not possibly win in the new District 2. You can thank our
legislature that you now have to choose between Matheson and Love in District 4.
Yeah, Mia Love would fit perfectly. With such amazing representation like Hatch,
Lee, Chaffetz and Bishop... What would one more tea party drone hurt?
Congressional districts?Article 1 of the Constitution states:
"Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several
States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective
Numbers,"No mention is made of "Congressional
districts"? Each STATE is allowed at least one Representative. Utah now
qualifies for four Representatives. Those Representatives represent ALL the
people of Utah, not some subdivision within Utah.If his views
represent the values of Utah, then the people of Utah will elect him, but
don't hold your breath. He's encouraging Utah's college students
to take out college loans. Utahns believe in self-reliance, but Jim Matheson
tells our sons and daughters to rely on Washington. That's not a Utah
value. It has never been a Utah value.Any college student can work
his way through college so why does Jim Matheson encourage them to exit college
owing tens of thousands in loans?
It's not a difficult choice for me. Matherson is a vote for dem control of
the house, meaning nancy would be speaker - a return to disaster.and
then there was matheson's vote to require catholic hospitals to provide
abortions if they wanted to treat the elderly. Unconscionable
The saddest thing of all is that only the majority party, religion, race, people
get to be represented in our national government. Gerrymandering is
wrong. It is the invention of unscrupulous political forces to prevent the
ordinary people from having any say in their government. A better
way to obtain true representation in out state and national government is to
have all candidates elected in an overall statewide election where the voters
themselves decide the “district” in each and every election. What I mean is that every candidate would be self identified according
to political philosophy, such as republican, democrat, conservative, liberal,
business, labor etc. etc. Voters would also designate the political
philosophy or even a current issue, as their voting “district”. In
this way all the democrats in the state could have a say in government if their
number of votes is enough to rate a portion of the representation. Also the
“district” would not be cast in stone and could vary as the need
Why is it difficult to choose between an honest man who cares about other people
and a person who demonstrated hypocrisy by increasing taxes in her city,
accepting Federal money while decrying its spending, and one whose family used
assistance programs to ensure her success?
If you were to as any American for a truthful answer to whether or not they
wanted to “work hard” to have the good life, only a few might answer
yes, if any.The actual purpose of this conservative republican lie
is to convince unthinking other people to work hard. The real truth
is there to see. Hard work has nothing to do with success or the American
dream. The success we most often see is the result of a persons ability to get
others to do the work hard for him. Ask yourself, would you rather
get your water that has to be purified from pumping from a hand dug well or
just turn a tap. Would you rather walk to work each day from where you live or
ride transportation. Would you rather work hard all day and night just to feed
and clothe your family or would you like to have some time to enjoy freedom.
Do you really think the conservatives have your welfare in mind?
As a long time Matheson supporter, I am having second thoughts. Perhaps it is
time for a change to someone with Mia Love's perspective. She was
Matheson's district was torn up into pieces, he didn't have a choice
but to lose some of them no matter which way he picked. "It is
increasingly sad and disappointing for Utah that we can't send both
Matheson and Mia Love to Congress. What a feather that would have been in
Utah's bonnet and a huge boost to Utah's public image."That's the mention we get of Mia Love... being coupled with Matheson as a
feather in Utah's bonnet and a boost to Utah's public image? For what?
For Utah being able to say we have a democrat and a black woman as
representatives? That's no basis for voting for people. I'm no fan of
Mia Love but darn it, if she's going to win, let it be about her ideas
being more popular, not her race or gender. @Mike Richards"She tells us of opportunity not of entitlement. She tells us to work, not
to covet. "She thinks the poor and elderly need to shoulder the
burden of deficit reduction while the rich get more tax cuts. What do the rich
sacrifice? Nothing. That's entitlement.
Will someone please finish Love's resume? I have yet to see how she has
handled the infarstructe issues of her community.
"The entire point of redrawing our congressional districts was to ensure
that Jim Matheson could not possibly win in the new District 2."Ummm; the entire point was to create four districts where three existed
before, in a state that has over 80% urban population. Regardless of how you
divide it - someone would have been unhappy. Utah was hardly any more partisan
than California, et. al.Everyone got new boundaries: Matheson could
and should have stayed in his old district
@Counter Intelligence"Matheson could and should have stayed in his old
district"But what is his old district? In other words, what
percentage of people in old District 2 are still in old District 2 and what
percentage of them are in other districts? It's entirely possible that
it's not even a majority of people in old District 2 that are even still in
District 2. I don't know the answer to that, and you can't just point
to a map and compare land because most of old and new District 2 is sparsely
inhabited while I'm asking about people.
re: Mike Richards 8:07 a.m. Aug. 30, 2012"Jim Matheson was
elected to represent all of the people of Utah."Wrong! He
represents what used to be the 2nd district.. the most *liberal* one in Utah
where roughly 5 out of 8 votes still went to the GOP in 2000, 2004, & 2008.
Make it simple.. vote Libertarian. Voting R or D is a vote for the
status quo and we all know how well that is going.
