Wow Bingham shot itself in the foot time after time. I thought Bingham played
horrible and still should have won. I heard Bingham had something like 8
starters out with injury. Your welcome alta, Bingham beat Bingham in that one.
embarassing.BHS, class of 82
@ markymarkI don't know what game you were watching last night,
but Alta owned Bingham last night in every statistic. The score board was not a
true representation of the game that was played. Alta nearly again beat itself,
with stupid penalties and turnovers at very unoportune times. Alta was able to
march up and down the field at will, but when it came time to punch it in the
endzone, they either committed a penalty, or made stupid descisions and turned
the ball over to Bingham. Bingham on the other hand only really had two great
sustainable drives all night. First was just before the half when they marched
all the way down the field and scored right before half time. Second was when
#11 orchestrated a tremndous drive in the fourth quarter, that ened up with
Bingham scoring their second touchdown. Other than those two drives, Alta's
defense pretty much kept the Miners offense in check for the entire night. The
score could have easliy been 17-3 or 24-3 at the half, and probably should have
been, for the Hawks.
Bingham lost to a better team. Two missed field goals,a touchdown called
back, and blowing a td run dead off a failed bingham pat... Thats 20 points for
alta right there not to mention bingham getting gifted another posession from
roughing the kicker. If anything bingham had chance after chance and couldnt
close the deal
I guess you can look at it however you want, I could reel off 50 stupid mistakes
that Bingham made. But we will see in november when Bingham is healthy.
Thats your comeback
Hey The Hawk, I thought it was a great game from a neutral fans perspective. The
coaches will clean things up and both teams will improve. Just to clear
something up. On the failed Bingham PAT, as soon as the defense touches the
ball, the play is over. I think this is just a little preview of the fireworks
that will happen in November. This is the best time of the year!
Absolutely Alta was the better team on the field last night. I think things
will be much different when Bingham gets the top defensive recruit in the state
back next week. And when they get back possibly the best O lineman in the state
back from injury. So for the teams on the field last night, Alta was the better
team. Luckily it's just pre season and the Miners will have more talent
coming back to make for a possibly different outcome come November. Always a
UTEFAN12 I totally agree. That was probably the most penalty laden first half
ive ever seen between these two teams. Thanks for the clarification on that
rule. I still think it's a dumb one lol. I expect the game in november to
be much cleaner but just as intense. As much as it kills me inside to say
it I think this could be the year of,the diggers, from jtown.
I don't need a comeback, its August. Im still waiting for anyone on this
team to make it out of the first round. Coaches included.
And yes I know that a couple of these coaches were on staff the last time that
alta won it. But not in the same role there in now.
Neither of these to teams would be Pine View this year.
Pretty good game. Alta was better, but I do think with Lotulelei back next week,
they will be much better. As far as offense, I knew Hicks was out, not sure
about others. Even just adding Hicks, maybe the Bingham QBs would have had time.
They Alta front 7 was great and did a great job and #7 was seeing pressure all
night. The other QB #11 was effective when he got in open space, but I think
only as a runner. I know Bingham has a couple of great WRs, and the Alta Defense
which had NO starters did awesome. Kind of funny how teams now make such a big
deal about 'Returning Starters'. Even with the missing
Bingham players, Alta might have enough to beat them again if they meet in the
playoffs. Those first year Alta starters will improve as the year goes on. By
the way, what is with the TE for Bingham? He dropped several balls. I heard
someone say he was the best Bingham TE ever. Handley for Alta was awesome. This
was the first time I had seen him play.
Neither team "dominated" 17-16 is hardly dominating, when the only
reason it didn't go into OT was a muffed extra point. Bingham's D
without their best lineman in Lotulelei still stuffed Alta in the red zone
multiple times. Yes they gave up a few big plays but stepped up when it counted.
Bingham and Alta both have issues at QB, with #7 and #17 for Alta any QB would
look good. How many passes did Lucero throw past 10 yds? that were completed?
Not one pass thrown to Cantwell is very distressing to Bingham fans. The TE is
proving to be all hype. He looks scared to get hit. Weichers is a great talent
but can't do it all. Unless Bingham finds offensive identity they will not
get out of the first round of the playoffs again this year.
Prep FanaticWatch the game again. I have watched every play, and Alta did
NOT march up and down the field at will. Bingham's D owned Alta when it
came to the red zone. Just ask Lucero how many times he got hit... hard.
Throwing tons of 5 yd passes to 6' 6" WR's will pad anyones stats.
Jarka-rus,Funny how you had to post twice to try and fix your teams
loss but it won't help. By the end of the game it came down to who could
take the game into their hands. That was Alta. Enough said but don't be
worried I am sure you'll be able to have a rematch the way both teams are
playing this year.I like your school spirit but please be classy about your
loss.Sincerely,Your Friendly Neighborhood Fremontkid
FremontkidReally? How is Fremont doing this year? You should heed your own
advice when your team is 0-2 and has been outscored 80-12. Taking the game into
your own hands means taking a knee to run out the clock? Okay, but like I said
neither team owned or dominated the other. Came down to one muffed snap at the
end. Who knows what would have happened in OT.
Im not sure it would have went into OT if the PAT wasent muffed. I thought Alta
could of scored in the end if they wanted to. The reciever kneeled on the goal
line and there was a pentalty I know but Alta still had time and only would of
needed a field goal. Im a SE Utah guy and follow small school ball but watched
this one on TV. Great game but thought the better team won.
football and wrestling. Bingham was trying to let Alta score. That way they
could get the ball back. The Packers did it against the Broncos in the Super
Bowl back when Elway was playing. Giving up a TD was better than letting Alta
run out the clock. The Alta coaches and/or player was smart enough to not score.
Had Bingham made the extra pt, I doubt Alta would have taken a risk by throwing
down field. The farthest pass the Alta kid threw was picked off. The stats were
pretty much the same in rushing. Bingham have a few more yards. Alta had a few
more yards passing. On paper it looks like equal teams, but from my observation,
Alta is the better team.... at least now. It could change if Bingham gets
everyone on the field.
The Bingham TE got poked in the eye on the 3rd play and could only see out of
one eye the rest of the game. Don't be so quick to judge when you have no
idea whats going on on the field. He is everything that people are saying and
Also Bingham was trying to let the kid score at the end so they could get the
ball back with a chance to score and get the 2 point conv for the tie. Smart
play by the alta kid to down it at the 1.
markymark.... sorry, I was not really trying to 'judge' the Bingham
TE. I was just trying to see if something was wrong. Apparently there was
something wrong. I did not mean to offend your son like that. I am sure he is a
great kid. I wish him luck.
Bottom line with the Miners is they really need to solve the issue at QB and
quickly. That whole rotating QB's every play is not a formula for success,
just as BYU. They either need to stay with Stout and work on his decision
making when throwing the ball, or go with Bowles and alter the offense to allow
him to run, which is what he does best. But do one or the other. This
isn't 3 years ago when you had Cantwell that could come in and run and pick
up the first downs every so often. Neither have that type of talent. Pick one
and stick with him.
HSFAN, I can only hope that my son is as good as this kid and get to choose
whatever school he wants to go to on a full ride. I had to walk on and earn my
scholarship at the U, not the easiest way. But my oldest is only 5 so i have a
long way to wait for that. How is your boy doing on the debate team?
markymark--My son has a full ride debate scholarship to ITT Tech!.... dude
relax, no one is ripping on your son or nephew or close friend. No one would
take something that was not meant to be personal, so personally.... .well unless
they are related. I am glad he gets to choose whatever school he wants to go on
a full ride. That is so cool. Once again, good luck to your
If the Bingham TE was poked in the eye and could not see the ball, why would the
coaches leave him in the game? Maybe for blocking, but why throw to him. If you
can only see out of one eye, it really messes with the depth perception. Poor
coaching if they left him in. They have 80 kids on the sidelines, I am sure
someone could have gone in.
I agree with Bench. IF (and that's a big if, because I was at the game, and
have since watched it on TV, and there is no sign of him wincing or squinting on
a close up in the second quarter after making a reception) the #9 TE got poked
in the eye, then the coaches shouldn't be calling plays for him. Unless, of
course, he wasn't able to see and didn't tell the coaches, which would
be an ego thing for him, putting his own desire to make plays in a big game
before the good of the team. I think it's more likely that he had a
bad game. It happens, even to players with their choice of D1 schools. I'm
sure he's a good player, but several of those throws that he missed hit him
in the hands and were well placed by the QB. My brother had a bad game, too,
which would have been much harder to swollow if his team had lost. But they
didn't. Go Hawks!
I was giving you some the info that was going on, one of my best friends is a
coach at bingham and thats what he told me. I have never met the shultz kid, I
just think its funny how people blast a kid and call him all hype when they
don't really know whats going on. I'm sure that him at 50% is better
than the back up. That is probably why they left him in. When you call a play
all 4 guys go out in a route. I guess its there fault that alta left the tight
end wide open. Lucky for alta they did. The plays don't work if you keep
the TE in to block. But I'm explaining myself to guys that think Bingham
ran the same play on the whole drive at the end too.
Okay, so he didn't tell the QB he couldn't see. And I'm fairly
sure, without any personal knowledge to back it up, that a school as large and
talented as Bingham could manage to produce a backup TE who could perform better
as a backup than a blind starter. He missed some balls! It's okay! Everyone
does! I'm sure he'll still have a great season.
ProudBigBrother. Give it up...markymark is just defending his son. If they had
debate team and chess team comment boards, I would get on to defend my son as
well. After all markymark is pushing the hype. Just look at the
Bingham Miners Season Preview 2012 comments. He said "A ton of there reads
have the TE as the first target. I guess if they don't get open just blame
the system. This kid makes holt look like a little leaguer." Austin Holt
plays for BYU and is pretty good. Saying a HS kids makes him look like a little
leaguer is hype. By the way, my son makes Bobby Fischer look like he
is just learning to play chess.
