This was an interesting game and had I not been present, I would not have
believed the score or the scenario.I must concede that Riverton has
improved from last year. However, except for a couple of long runs...the
Herriman defense held strong...only allowing 16 points in regulation. For me the concern was the play of our offense. With the type of offense that
we have, 16 points by our opponent should never be enough to send us into
overtime and our offense should never go scoreless until 5:00 left in the 4th
quarter. Not sure if it was poor offense on our part or good defense on
Riverton's part. My hope is that Riverton's defense is just really
good. The ironic thing is that the game came down to the exact
scenario as last year...a 2-point conversion by Herriman in overtime. We had
the opportunity to win and came up short.I predicted and hoped for
10-0, 14-0...that's not happening, but I hope this loss will fuel the
desire to finish the season strong. I can definitely live with 9-1, 13-1!
Benzo,I will help you feel better. Riverton's defense is that good.
They have 8, maybe 9 defenders who will play at the next level. All 3
linebackers may play D-1. People in Riverton have known the defense has a chance
to be very good, but didn't want to say as much until they matched up
against someone who would test them. Both teams are much better than last year,
you definitely have a chance to go 9-1. The playoffs are anybody's guess.
Good luck to both teams.
Benzo, great insight after the loss. I agree that you should have a good year.
No offense to Riverton fans, but they won't make it past round 1, with or
without that great defense. Herriman will not finish the season with one loss.
They will be 1-2 after Friday. Highland is a team that improves from week to
week. Good luck, But Region 7's best will not get past the fourth best of
Herriman just lost to a team that might not make the playoffs.
My hope is that Riverton has a good season...it will help lessen the blow of
this loss. I have to think that Riverton will make the playoffs...between
American Fork, Lone Peak and Lehi...I think Riverton can beat two of them.Riverton's defense was solid. I haven't watched enough film
yet to determine if it was Herriman's offense or Riverton's defense
that caused so much of the havoc. I will say that Herriman was in the Red Zone
6 times that resulted in 3 touchdowns and 3 turnovers (1 interception and 2
fumbles). The offense was in the gray zone 3 times that resulted in 1 missed FG
and 2 turnovers (2 fumbles). So the offense had every opportunity to score.
What makes all of this almost obsolete is what transpired during the last 5
minutes of the 4th quarter and overtime. With 5:00 left in the game, Herriman
was down 0-16 then goes on to score a TD and 2point conversion and then the
defense gets a 4 and out and the offense scores 8 points again to go to
overtime. It will be interesting to see what this loss does!!!
I predicted both Alta and Riverton to win. I got a little nervous when #8
started throwing. He looked good throwing, but I think the Silverwolves were
playing a little prevent. I was also impressed since the Herriman receivers were
little. Any Herriman fans, do you have a WR over 5'6? The TE is tall, but
looked like he was just there to block and missed several blocks. Bernard is a
stud. The Mustangs should keep pounding the ball, I doubt they will see a better
defense unless they get to the finals against maybe East or TV.
@Bench - I like your comments! I predicted Herriman and Alta to win. Herriman
has two receivers large receivers....6'2"/190lbs and
6'1"/195lbs. However, they are both returning starters on defense. I
am glad to hear that Riverton is the best defense we will face besides East or
TV in 4A playoffs.Riverton has a very fast offense...we helped them
out though by ending 4 of our drives with turnovers...2 of which were in the Red
Zone and the other 2 in the Gray Zone. My hope is that this loss will send a
jolt through the team and they will refocus and intensify.
Bench - I am not sure what game your were watching. #25 for Herriman is a WR
and is 6'3" He caught a TD week 1 and had a few catches on Saturday,
and was wide open when they threw the pick at the end of the half. As for the
TE, he released in to routes a lot, and they tried to get him the ball on some
screens, he just didn't get much thrown his way, so he must have been
covered well. He is actually their leading returning receiver. As for the
blocking, I am not sure what missed blocks you are talking about - he is a beast
of a blocker! I saw him put three guys on their backs on one play. The only
time I saw him get beat is on one sweep where his guy slanted outside on the
snap of the ball...no one would have made that block.
footballisgood..... thanks for the corrections coach. Good luck the rest of the
year. You coached a good game.
I was thinking the same thing. footballisgood has to be a coach at Herriman.
Haha I wish it were true! That would be cool. I am one of those guys who does
not have a life, so I go to their practices a lot, and I used to coach out of
state so I know the game a little and see a bunch of things.
Benzo. If you run in to Woods Cross or Bountiful in the playoffs, their D will
be just as good as well. I thought ex would just be high power offense. It is
their strict lock down D that has impressed me most so far. Anyone gets past the
line, Barton eats them up. The 4-5-2 is working awesome.
Meant to say 4-2-5 D. Oops. Also, will Wall at Bountiful they will always be a
lockdown defensive team.
