Good. You take the money, you spend it on its intended purpose. Here's an idea: use it to improve the frontage roads along US-89
in Davis County.
The federal government is drowning in debt, borrowed to the hilt from China, and
has condemned future generations to punishing levels of taxation to pay for
their wanton spending. So, instead of possibly just cancelling the
unspent funds, they demand they be spent. After all, another half billion
dollars is mere chump change in their scheme of things. In most
states (and perhaps even in Utah), road construction is done mostly by unionized
labor, and Obama has always been quick to keep money flowing to his union
cronies. If we must spend it, I am sure that UDOT will use it wisely.
UDOT really is a very well run agency and Utah roads are far better than those
in most states. But, we are broke, and must stop any non-essential
spending. Don't think so? Then warn your kids that they are doomed to be
the first generation of Americans to live less well than their parents, and that
they will be paying for all the freebies that they will never enjoy.
DN Subscriber; How did we get in this mess? Lets review. At the end of the
Clinton's term we were running a surplus, we were on track to paying of the
national debt by this year. Then Bush started two wars and cut taxes, this was
fiscal insanity. In every other war we have been in taxes were raised to pay for
them. The tax cuts were supposed to be temporary, and they were supposed to
stimulate the economy. Two thirds of the increase in the national debt were
caused by the tax cuts, the unfunded wars, and the bank bailout. (Bush did this
not Obama) Tax cuts do not stimulate the economy JOBS do that. Jobs like the
ones this money will pay for. The Republicans are the ones that got us into this
mess, letting them have free reign will only make the problem worse. Ryan calls
for more tax cuts for the wealthy, says that will stimulate the economy. It wont
it didn't for Bush and it won't for Romney. All it will do is drive us
further into debt.
