Sure people send email now due to the internet. They also shop on ebay, amazon
and all sorts of online retailers that will be SHIPPED to them. Packages are
much more lucritive anyway and the post office was making a lot of money from
it. Until congress stepped in.Congress is making the post office run
with low headcount and forced retirement "bills" for employees that
haven't been born yet so FEDEX, UPS and whomever else is stuffing thier
dirty politician pockets can get more money from the internet shipping economy.
Congress and the Bush administration made a huge mess, another one.
I am very curious as to why Congress isn't addressing these issues. I
haven't heard any legislators even mention the problems at the USPS. Has
the media taken up this issue ie. asked the legislators? Could it be a
"hot potato" issue with the politicians ie. Republicans wanting USPS to
fold so our mail delivery system is fully privatized? FedEx and UPS
don't deliver packages to every locale in the U.S. In some areas they rely
on USPS to deliver their packages.
Charge a LOT more for all that junk mail. My home mail box has more spam then my
email. I have to throw away a small forest every month, none of which I
requested and none of which I even open. That being said, the above
posters are right about defunding things and then complaining they don't
work right. The Utah Legislators try this every year with education.
Simple solution.Only deliver mail once a week. Make
business use private mail options.
The central problem here is sort of like when Congress gives the military
programs they don't want. The cost of the military skyrockets. The issue here is the USPS has asked to be able to close post offices and drop
one day of mail service. Congress won't allow it.Hard to
complain the Post Office is not run like a business when Congress keeps stopping
them from running it like a business.
