Scholar calls Christians, Mormons GOP's 'twin pillars'
So LDS is now synonymous with GOP. This doesn't concern church leadership?
The reason few LDS folks vote for the democratic party is not due to changes
among LDS values. It is due to changes in the values of the democratic party. It
is apparent who left who.
SME, it is widely acknowledged that both parties have actually moved rightward.
The GOP is very far from where it was even under Reagan. Does this mean the
church is an extremist religion? Your argument is a worn out partisan
This is depressing. Being so closely associated with partisan politics cannot be
good for the church. We should be charting our own course instead of being used
by different factions. We should be putting our trust in God not the
philosophies of men.
@EsquireIf the Democratic party has actually moved to the right, I
shudder to think about where it came from.
@ Brave Sir Robin, the Dems are regarded by political scientists as being more
moderate than the past. They have not acted vigorously of late on key issues
like the environment, tax policies, social programs, etc. In fact, the Dems of
today are more moderate than the Republicans of the Reagan ear and before.
Maybe the GOP has gone off the rails.
Mormons aren't zionist by creed, so why is Mitt pulling this Evangelical
Choosen People/Promised Land sled? Mitt keeps talkin about hitting
Iran. Both Thatcher and Reagan condemned Israel striking Iraq in 1981.Thatcher condemned Israel’s bombing of Osirak, Saddam Hussein’s
nuclear reactor, in 1981. “[The Osirak attack] represents a grave breach
of international law,” she said in an interview with London’s Jewish
Chronicle in 1981. Israel’s bombing of another country could lead to
“international anarchy.” I think Reagan said something about,
"....the inalienable sovereign right of Iraq, and all other States,
especially the developing countries, to establish a program of technological and
nuclear development." Iran is no different. In his
STAR WARS Speech didn't Reagan say, 'We will never be the
aggressor."? I'm looking for the first few Reagan Republicans to
condemn the said planned attack against Iran. Betcha not one, including Mitt,
has the guts to make a stand for fear of being called an anti-something. I
have no idea what Mitt is doing. And then Mitt knocks Socialism? But now
he's gunna go visit 3 socialist countries?
@Esquire" They have not acted vigorously of late on key issues
like the environment, tax policies, social programs, etc."I
guess you missed the article right below this one about how Democrats are
shutting down a coal-fired power plant on an Indian reservation for clean air
reasons, which will cost over 1,000 Native Americans to lose their jobs.
Unemployment is already over 20% on that reservation. If that is the
"moderate" Democratic party at work, what were they doing before they
were "moderate"? Causing 2,000 people to lose their jobs?
esquire, Spin and twist reality all you want. But the LDS church remains on the
course that the Prophet directs. To suggest that we LDS are changing to become
the GOP or that we LDS are aligning ourselves to blend with evangelists is
perfectly backwards. We are on a straight course pursuing the same goals
and desires that our forefathers had.I do find it interesting that
this movement is called "the restoration".
