I like this signing. Especially if it means CJ is gone for good. I think Foye,
Hayward, and Burks makes us pretty deep at the 2 spot. I expect this will mean
Hayward spends significant time splitting the 3 spot with Marvin Williams.
Not sure I like this pick up. Sure he is a solid player but what about Burks?
Foye started last year and likely wants to continue starting. Just not sure
what the Jazz rotation looks like. Of course this does add depth and
potentially makes the Jazz 2nd unit much better. I'd like to see some
young talent developed and given more playing time though. So here are my 2
deep chart. Guess it looks pretty good especially after our early exit last
year.PG-Mo Williams/WatsonSG-Burks/FoyeSF-Williams/HaywardPF-Favors/MilsapC-Jefferson/KanterWith Foye, Milsap, and Hayward being the anchors for the 2nd team we should be
improved. With Burks and Favors getting the startinf nod we develop the young
future of the Jazz and add height and quickness to the team. Should be a fun
@AFCougi doubt Burks starting...knowing that Corbin favors the older
vets more...and i hate to admit it...but yeah...i guess Hayward would be coming
off the bench...but who knows...he did get an invite to the US Select team...and
i am sure there are a lot of takers if he is a free agent...let's just hope
we could be competitive...knowing the fact that golden state's lineup right
now is pretty good...
This is great news! Did I hear someone say "championship?"
I hope this helps. It would be nice to see the Jazz higher than 8th seed in the
DARN! I was hoping we'd trade Favors for the jimmer. Until the jimmer
returns to the chosen land the Jazz will never win a NC.
This is a solid signing for the Jazz. I got a peek at Gordon Hayward yesterday
and all I can say is that Jazz fans are in for a sweet surprise. G-Man has put
on 15-20 lbs. of pure muscle. He has been hitting the weights like he's
hungry to take it to the next level!
@Penguin Inc."This is great news! Did I hear someone say
"championship?"Yeah...someone in Miami.If you
think Randy Foye turns the Jazz into a championship contender then you are truly
delusional. Jazz are a playoff 7-seed at best.
re: winglishUh, I don't think so. I heard a sports radio with
Hayward maybe 30 days ago and at that point he had said he was taking a break
and not even working out. So he put on 15-20 lbs in a month? We
all wish for that but very unlikely and physiolocically probably impossible.
Hopefully he did hit the weights hard though prior to Select camp and
toned/bulked up some. He would likely need roids to put on that much muscle in
that short of time.He better be hitting the weights though because
the Jazz did not sign Foye for that much money to ride the bench.Burkes playing time just took a hit.
re:AFCCougWhat? Burkes starting? This is not the summer league.
Burkes for certain won't have a chance to start now with Foye
What a joke. The Jazz have taken all players that no one wants and paying good
money for them. Instead of building a future, the Jazz are now the home for all
the geriatrics in the NBA. Maybe the Millers should build a rest home next to
the Energy Solutions Arena to house the players they are acquiring. I am sure
the Clippers are excited to send their bad contracts to Utah.
to hedgehog...Favors for the Jimmer? What? r u crazy? Jimmer...local hero,
but not for the NBA
Hedgehog was being sarcastic. He's a known BYU hater, oh well. No one has
even mentioned Jimmer here but he feels the need to bash.
@coleman51 so who did you want them to get such cry babies
To King Black: I have no idea what you are talking about. I wanted to see the
Jazz build a future with young, athletic players primarily through the draft. At
least, get good young athletic players through trades. That's precisely
what Oklahoma City did even though they were bad for a few seasons. The players
we are acquiring are old players no one in the NBA wants and are not competitive
with the younger players coming up. The Jazz have essentially purchased
mediocrity during this off-season.
Just watch guys. This acquirement means KOC is brewing something big. I know we
can't trade Foye for a while. We still have awkwardness in what the future
with our bigs. So this means we're going to trade 2-3 guys aways, which may
include the GSW pick and get something we'll all be grateful for.
@coleman51And people like you still seem to ignore that Utah has how many
young players on their team how many..... and you want more I mean you say you
want them to have more minutes ok thats reasonable but then get mad when they
get more veterans on the team because you complain that they will take minutes
away from the young players well what will happen when you have a team full of
young players the same thing when its mixed full of young and older players
their will be younger guys still not getting time to play so wheres is the logic
in that way to want to run a team.
@coleman51You act as if older players can still not play I mean Foye stats
were pretty good last year, I mean besides OKC what other team has a bunch of
high draft picks and made it far in the playoffs thats a pretty easy answer but
yet you want the Jazz to follow a one trick pony trend that has only really
worked for one team and ignore what seems to work for just about all other good
Why. Why! Why? Why:
@coleman51and you know dang very well what im talking about your
crying like a baby because something didnt go your way. I mean what young
athletic talent did you want them to get.. I mean as if the Williams from
Atlanta isnt athletic and he isnt old either. But thats right you want specific
demands young and athletic(YaA) so once again tell me what young athletic
personnel was just sitting out there for Utah to trade for worth giving up
somebody big for because if a trade is made it better be someone close to what
we give up for. oo YaA does not equal instant goodness once the ball is in the
air as evident in CJ miles or all those other teams that lived in the realms of
high draft picks.
@Coleman51I have no idea what you are talking about here. The last
three free agents we just signed hit more 3 pointers than the entire Jazz team
last year(Mo, Marvin, and Foye). Our outside shooting will be much improved
next year. None of the new players is signed for more than two years so we have
not picked up any "bad contracts" from the Clippers. We will also still
be one of the younger teams in the NBA next year with room to deal in the summer
of 2013 along with Golden States pick. We replaced CJ, Bell, and Harris with
much better players. I like the moves we have made this off season and think we
will be better next year.
i have to partly agree with coleman51 but not entirely...the reason why i would
agree is that the young guys on the team should get major minutes and get the
most out of the plays to speed up their improvement and learning...D-League
minutes wont help a lot due to the competition level...if this kids get to play
a bulk of minutes...they would either crash and burn...or rise up and
improve...but as we all know...its about continuity...being a playoff
team...plus the difference between OKC and us...is Sam Presti and Luck...i
won't agree on doing it entirely via draft...i think you should pick your
spots...a mix of quality veteran players...is still better than going all
The people who think that the players we are acquiring this summer is taking us
anywhere are delusional. If one looks at the pre-draft camps, the athleticism of
these young players are dramatically superior to those even five years ago. That
is why the teams who are going younger will be much better than we will be
because we have a management team that is stuck in the past and will not build
for our future. You homers who believe that the crop of players we have acquired
this summer are making our team better are also stuck with the same mind-set.
Rather than improve our team, we have make it much less competitive. Oklahoma
City is not the only example, look at the young guards for Philadelphia who are
quickly becoming the backbone of their franchise. Other teams have woke up to
that reality and are going young. The Utah Jazz are going in the opposite
coleman51 I read your first comment and am starting to wonder if you even
follow the NBA or know anything about it. Stating that the jazz got only players
that nobody else wanted is rediculous. Lets just compare the players they lost,
and the players that they gained and if you still think the jazz didn't
improve then you clearly don't know basketball. Lost: Cj Miles,
Raja Bell, Josh Howard, Devin HarrisGained: Marvin Williams, Mo
Williams, Randy FoyeNow if you look at those 2 lists the first list
of players lost is a list of players that no teams really wants. I wouldn't
mind having Howard back, but the others should not even be in the nba. So yes,
they have improved with decent players.
Note that the three new acquisitions--Marvin Williams, Mo Williams, and Randy
Foye--are relatively solid from the 3--but they're below average inside the
arc.It just might be that this is the plan--if the offense needs a
jumper from 15-20 feet out, AJ and Millsap should be shooting that; And now
we're getting a few options who can hit from 22-25 feet out.Foye is a good kid and will be a great fit with the Jazz. He'll take
some pressure from Burks, who simply isn't ready to start 82 games at SG,
and will provide some solid perimeter defense, something we haven't had for
a few years.
coleman51 isnt really out of the point...but...sometimes you dont need
athleticism...all you need is a very effective system...right now we dont have
the system...the athletic guys we have...are the young ones...and they arent
even starting..let's all just hope that we dont lose Favors, Kanter, Burks
and Hayward through free agency...i think they should give them ample minutes
next season...and more opportunities on offense...run plays for each position so
that we wouldnt be too predictable...
So this just re-assures utah's 7th place in the division?
Johnson72 - your comment about the jazz being 7th in the division shows your
lack of general and basic knowledge of basketball and the NBA. There aren't
7 teams in the division, there are only 5. You have to know what you are talking
about before you bash a team.
