How much of the conversion behind bars is genuine and howmuch is made up.
Thankfully there is repentance. But they were not thinking of religiion when
they did what they did to be sent to prison. Some infamous murderers Jeffrey
Dahmer, James Edward Wood in Idaho and I am sure KaRLA Fay Tucker sure found God
in Prison. But since they had no respect for there victims lives I wonder if it
is fake. One death row inmate in Idaho talked of How Paul Ezra Rhoades went to
church. Well he did not care much about any of the commandments before he got
to prison. Since most prisoners defrauded someone why were they not
thinking of religion when they got there. I am sure some change and religion
helps them not come back. Just wonder whey they did not have religin before
they got to prison and how much of it is playing with the system.
I would be curious to see how many of the inmates who 'found God' or
'found religion' behind bars continue with their religious convictions
once they are back outside of prison. I realize that I have only
the one experience, but my former father in law was in prison and he found God.
Man did he find God. It was all over his letters. He preached to everyone he
wrote to. He talked about it in his phone calls. It got to the point that it
was so in your face it was offensive to those of us not in prison. Especially
those of us who had been religious for years before he ever went to prison.
When he got out of prison I noticed the God fell by the wayside with in a few
weeks. I guess he was done needing religion.Like I said, I would be
interested in seeing how many people stick with their new religious convictions
after they leave prison.
