A great kid from an outstanding football program, coached by Kevin Rooney, who
is one of the most respected hs coaches in the state of CA. Good job, Leroy!
Welcome to the Ute family LeRoy!Even though it's going to be a
few years before you are playing for the Utes, I look forward to seeing you at
Rice Eccles. The article didn't mention what other schools have
been recruiting him - does anyone know? It will be interesting to see how big
he gets - they said he is 6' 4" and 280 - I'm assuming he is still
growing. He sounds like a beast.
@QwestAccording to ESPN, he was offered by Utah, UCLA, Nebraska,
Hawaii, Washington, and BYU.
Reload !Welcome Leroy, it's good to be a Ute!
Third year in a row Utah has failed to land the top rated offensive line
prospect out of Utah. BYU is one for three. Ryker Mathews in 2011 (BYU),
Brandon Fanaika in 2012 (Stanford) and Logan Stott 2013 (Arizona).
Fender Yet, Utah will send (2)O linemen to the NFL this year in
Cullen and Bergstrom. hmmmmSeems to work out in Utah's favor
even if they lose a couple kids from Utah. They are replaced by others who end
up being NFL caliber anyway.Love the Sitake connection too. Has to
be a player.Go Utes!
utahcountyute"...Utah will send (2)O linemen to the NFL this
year in Cullen and Bergstrom."Yet, Utah didn't even finish
with a winning conference record and failed to make the Top 25, as usual.utes busted
uteBusters your argument against utahcountyute has a major flaw in that your
point does not relate to his. Please try again.
Hey uteBusters,Does the 54-10 beatdown still hurt? Here's a serious question for you. byu fans love to say that byu had a
successful season because it was a 10 win season and they snuck into the top 25
in one of the polls. My question is which of those 10 wins, if any, were you
proud of as a fan? Those 10 wins came against some of the weakest teams in the
nation, yet when byu faced good competition (in only 3 games) they lost all 3.
So what win do you hang your hat on? New Mexico St.? Idaho? Idaho St.?cougs busted
uteBusterwithout a doubt Utah fans will take a PAC-12 schedule +
BIG-10 foe (future) and will feel just fine if the y ends up 25th in one poll
with 10 wins against Big Sky and WAC caliber teams any day. It just makes me
LOL everytime one of you guys gets on here and 1) think you have better program
2)think you have a better team 3) better coaching 4)better fans. Answer
KH's question Which win were you most proud of. Just another game for
Texas, Utah, and TCU you can't beat good teams.
@mlhProud of every win. Tell me which loss were you most
ashamed of? colorado? unlv? new mexico? wyoming? colorado state?
@arm of orionOf course uteBusters argument relates, it is dead on
correct. He rightly pointed out that despite 2 nfl oline possibilities (remember
as of this writiing neither has been drafted) utah was still a team with a
losing conference record despite having more home games than road games and
despite not having to play the two best teams in the league and they also lost
to the worst team in the league, and maybe all of college football, at home,
that hadn't won a road game in 4 years. Whew! That was a lot of failure to
DuckhunterHighland, UTAnd it was still 54-10 and BYU quit. As
did your quarterback at the end of the season. Telling you this
because you were in Tulsa.
Welcome aboard Leroy! It is great to be a UTE!!The future is
bright, the future is CRIMSON!!And the southies are jealous, sad and
Utahcountyute,That's great, but wouldn't the Utes be
better off if they were landing the highest ranked kids from their own backyard?
Sending kids to the NFL is nice, but the ultimate goal is to produce conference
championships and contend nationally. That doesn't happen consistently
without top notch recruiting. If the Utes miss out on the best local kids, then
you have to wonder what they could do differently Just sayin'.
Fender,Matthews was a great get for BYU at the time and still may pan out
as he has 4 years of eligibility. Congratulations on that. He also has seen zero
game time because he has been hampered by a foot problem. He is big, heavy, and
strong, but ask any big man in any sport how it is dealing with a lingering foot
problem. Ask Curtis Borchart, Yao Ming, Greg Oden. I never wish ill will on an
athlete but let's see if Matthews can get over that injury. I hope so
because he is a local kid and I always cheer for local kids no matter where they
end up. The point is this; you named three OL prospects as an "in your
face" argument to disparage the University of Utah football team and in all
three cases there have been zero live game snaps taken. Ease up on the talk and
let the results make your case when the time comes. Until then, I am happy with
the OL prospects at the U I don't have to be so childish as to look south
to see how they compare. Grow up please.
Fender,Local kids are great, but let's be honest here, the talent
level in Utah (local) is not comparable to other parts of the nation and in
California in particular. SEC country is an entirely different beast and talent
Mesoute,No, you misinterpret my comments. I'm a Ute fan and
have been for years. I'm just trying to keep it real here, not pump up
BYU. The high school talent in Utah at some positions is as good as any--just
not as deep, which is why these kids were recruited by the best schools in the
country. If you can't get the top level kids who grow up watching your
Mesoute,Sorry for the half comment I may have submitted in
error...hit enter instead of return. What I was trying to say is you
misunderstand. I'm a long time Ute fan and not disparaging Utes. Just
saying I think you have to be able to get the local talent, because it should be
the easiest to be aware of, scout and get. If you don't, then maybe you
need to look at the reasons. Maybe it's a fluke, but if I'm the
recruiting coordinator, then I'm asking why.Local talent some
years and at some positions is as good as any in the country. Anybody who goes
to any of the national combines and sees our kids compete would tell you the
same. Too bad all those kids don't stay home.
@fenderI think you need to look at the whole recruiting class -
though the Utes didn't get one player, doesn't mean we didn't get
top local talent. Utah beat all other schools in the state for the local talent
and our overall recruiting class was ranked just outside the top 25 in the
nation which was the highest ranked class the Utes have ever had.byu
is always going to compete for the top lds athletes in state and out of state
but as far as head to head with Utah, they are trailing and with Utah's
conference affiliation, that gap will continue to grow. It may not stay that
way if the y gets invited to join a BCS conference but until then, it's
looking good for the Utes. Its a great time to be a Ute!
Congrats on the recruit. Every team loves a good recruit. This one comes with a
name, maybe he will excel, must be a good kid with character, makes good
decisions, etc. Every teams needs kids like this, leaving California to come to
our state is a good thing.and...KH"Does
the 54-10 beatdown still hurt?" Well to be honest, it's a
little embarrassing but we all know it was a fluke, 7 turnovers and so forth.
The AP, the coaches and most of the really important people know that one game
just does not represent a total BYU season. Utah's first season in its new
conference is another story.BYU losing to Utah pales in comparison
on the national stage to Utah losing the 'big marble' and being
dispatched by Colorado. Busted. The end of season polls were just
icing on the cake. Case closed. And let me add to Duckhunter's
list with these 2010 season embarrassing moments...TCU 7-47 (most
historic game in RES) ND 3-28 (ND bench QB victory) Boise St. 3-26
(bowl game blowout) 17-14 really takes the cake for 2011, icing and
@sammyg"...it's a little embarrassing but we all know it
was a fluke...".Just like the nc.Happened once, so
it must be a FLUKE.Right.LOL.Last 10 games
in the U/y series...UTAH 7 wins y 3 wins.Overall series...UTAH 55 y
34.LOL.Icing on the cake? One win does not a
series make.Ok.55 UTAH wins overall and 7 UTAH wins out
of the last 10 games.Oh, but wait there's more.At
this point in the 2012 NFL Draft (rounds 1 through 6)...22 players
taken from the PAC 10.2.Not just STANFORD and usc. CAL, ASU,
OREGON, OREGON ST., and ARIZONA have had players drafted.UTAH has
had a Returned Missionary OT drafted.Even the buffs have had 1
player drafted.Independent notre dame has had 4 players drafted. And the y has?A beautiful stadium, great coaches, hard
working players and a fan base that doesn't deserve any of it.LOL.
Sunny all dayBYU Top 25 appearances > UtesThat's on the national stage, no one cares about the local squabbling and
chest pounding between the fans.Fluke NC > Fluke 54-10That NC is still a real NC. Gripe, lament, moan and groan all you want. BYU
has one and the Utes don't and with the BCS going away it's just going
to be darn difficult for the Utes to get one.17-14 was on the
national stage and another embarrassment that was hard to hide when so much was
at stake.54-10 was a local thing and people outside of the local
market didn't care. Almost like it didn't happen. We know it did but
it's hilarious BYU outranked the Utes. Get used to it,
it's happened many many times despite the losses to the Utes. In the last
50 years of modern football that BYU and Utes shared the same conference, BYU
has won 26 conference championships, Utes single digits. No one cares
about players to the NFL. Is there a trophy for that? Since you mentioned, how
many NFL champion QBs do the Utes have?LOL
DuckhunterHighland, UT@mlhProud of every win. Tell me which loss were you most ashamed of? colorado? unlv? new mexico?
wyoming? colorado state?------------I wasn't aware
we played UNLV, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado State last season.Could it be that you don't have much to use against us from 2011? So you
gotta reach back into the past? That's fine. But it only weakens your
point. On another matter, which of BYU's recent losses burn you
up inside? Utah State (that one still cracks me up)... Utah's 54-10
shellacking... or maybe the near-loss to Wyoming in 2010?If
we're gonna go into the past to find terrible losses, we'd have a
field day with BYU.
@sunny all dayPlayers being drafted from stanford, usc, cal,
washington, oregon, oregon st., and arizona somehow makes utah better?
That's really the thing, utah has nothing of its own to hang its hat on so
it leeches onto a host, or a bunch of hosts in the pac12, and pretends their
accomplishments are somehow utah's. There is nothing, absolutely nothing,
more pathetic than that.LOL
@sammyg/duckhunterLOL.Thank you for taking the time to
respond to my comment.I apologize for not getting back to you
"sooner".The y does have a beautiful stadium, great coaches,
hard working players and a pathetic (your word, duckhunter) absolutely pathetic
(again, your word, duckhunter) fan base. So, the two of you must be a
part of the beautiful stadium, the coaching staff, or the hard working
players?I thought so...LOL.
Sunny all dayI know what pathetic is, I'm certainly humble
enough to admit if the team I support wreaks. Have admitted as much on these
boards in the past. What I've never done is call a team's
fanbase pathetic, maybe some choice specific fans are pathetic, but never a
whole fanbase. That distinction is yours. Congratulations.
SammygIt's not hilarious that you out ranked the Utes, you won
more games. The thing that is hilarious is that you have absolutley no idea of
the difference the y had to go through and what the Utes had on thier schedule.
BYU had 3 (three),bye weeks let alone Idaho State, Idaho, New Mexico State,
Hawaii to end the season.
"Well to be honest, it's a little embarrassing but we all know it was a
fluke, 7 turnovers and so forth."Sammyg, "fluke" is the
most popular word in Provo after every loss byu suffers. It's kind of
funny though that when it comes to the byu Utah game, byu has had 7
"fluke" losses in the last 10 years. Maybe when losses to Utah are that
consistent it's no longer a fluke. Are you predicting another fluke this
KH"..."fluke" is the most popular word in Provo after
every loss byu suffers."Really? It's invoked that often? If 'fluke' is so popular in Provo then 'buffalo
chip' must be equally as popular in Salt Lake.LOL
@khSo you consider the losses whittingham has had to all the bottom
feeders over the last 7 years to be the real utah program? I have to agree with
you on one thing, there are enough of those losses to bottom feeders that we can
officially say they are not "flukes" they are simply what whittingham
coached utah teams do, that is lose to bad teams. It happens almost every single
season he has coached, sometimes multiple times in a season. It is just what
utah football does, lose to bad teams. Nothing "flukey" about it I
Duckhunter,I never said those losses are fluky. You're trying to put
words in my mouth.
@khI know you didn't, that is why I phrased it as a question
and then stated that I agree with you that they aren't flukes, because they
aren't. whittingham's utah teams have proven over and over again that
they lose to bad, and at times terrible, teams. I'm glad we agree on
something, it makes it so much more pleasant around here when we can meet on
common ground and share an opinion. :)
Wow Duckhunter, are you in 2nd grade?
@ducky & SamDo you know what isn't a fluke? Your team
doing absolutely nothing worth national relevance in college football for
almost 30 years. If you think making it into 1 of the top 25 polls at the
end of the year means something, then good for you. Go get your Free
Zion's bank sponsored tee shirt and your student season tickets. That is something that we can all laugh at.It's a great time
to be a Ute!
Qwest perfectedDo you think two appearances in BCS games in recent
years more relevant than being in the Top 25 multiple times more often than the
Utes, having multiple conference championships more than the Utes, recently
being in the NCAA basketball tournament multiple times compared to the Utes?(crickets)I bow to the Ute women's gymnastic team.
Update......He's now a Cougar!
