Herbert should be commended for having the courage to stand up to the political
Good job Governor Herbert. That one veto may have gotten you my vote.
Gov. Herbert's failure to get behind any meaningful measure to control
illegal immigration does not bespeak a courageous man but perhaps a political
man only.Apply that to this situation. Afraid of conservatives?
That is something I have never concluded from the record of the Utah
I couldn't disagree more with those who supported this veto. All
I ask is to get the government out of my life to the greatest possible extent.
You want your children to get sex education? Then you give it to them. You know
enough to have parented the child; don't abdicate your parental duties now
that they're born. You want your children to have condoms? You provide
them. Why does the government even think they have a role in this discussion at
all?Every person I talked to who supported this veto CLAIMS that
they teach their children about sex and the responsbilities associated with it.
They all CLAIM that sex education in school is for other people's children.
Absolute rubbish! But if that's truly the case, then I want to know what
business they have with determining what my children need to learn.
@joe5;Rubbish! All you have to do is 'opt out" and your
children learn nothing. You have the choice to not enroll them in sex ed. Give
others the choice to use it if they want to.You want the government
out of your life? How 'bout keeping it out of everyone elses as well,
FORCING "abstinence only education" (what an oxymoron) is butting into
I applaud Herbert's veto. This actually gives parents more choice not less.
Ignorance is not bliss and there are some that will benefit from this fact. Not
all of us want to crawl into a hole and hope we won't be caught in the
darkness. Sex Education is about teaching good health not teaching how to find
the best action. As CSN once said, "Teach your children well" but it is
also a community effort unless you prefer home schooling. You know where the
Kenneth Frank -- great letter, and 100% correct. It's sad that the
legislators kowtow to a bully like Ruczica.Governor Herbert -- well
I am on a personal crusade to get rid of these legislators who have voted for
these ridiculous bills over the past few years. First it was the school voucher
bill the majority of Utahans didn't want, then it was the foolish
text/email privacy bill, and now this. I think our legislators are too out of
touch with what we want. It's time for a new crop of public servants.
"Political Extremists" = Those who believe in the Constitution of the
United States evidently. If so I'm all for them.
Stick your head in the sand, Utah, Maybe you wont get pregnant.
@joe5I agree with you, I want the government out of my life as much as
possible. That means I want to buy a bottle of wine on Sunday, buy a car on
Sunday, go swimming in Provo on Sunday, go shopping at that new shopping mall
downtown on Sunday. Basically do a lot of things that the legislature has told
me I cannot do.
