I know it was a head scratcher of many fans why Harrison didn't play more. What
a strong, strong performance when one was needed the most.
No surprise to me about Damarcus. I watched him play in high school and sat by
him in church. He is not only going to be a great basketball player for BYU but
is a fine young man. Look for big things from him both on and off the floor.Again,Grouchyoldman and loving it.
Fetchin' about time. This was the best coaching move by Rose in the past two
months. Sitting Carlino and playing Harrison most of the second half was a major
factor in BYU winning this game.
Loved how Harrison played, but much of the credit for this win also goes to
Cusick, who wasn't rattled at all by the pressure the way Carlino was.Let's see on Thursday whether Coach Rose has learned anything.
I loved Harrison's play coming off the bench! But I agree with others that
Cusick is the unsung hero of the game. He didn't score a bucket, but his
ability to control to ball and get it to those who can score was critical to the
Not playing Harrison more this season is the only criticism I have of Dave
Rose's coaching this season. Abuou and Zylstra have been erratic and unreliable
all season long and Harrison should have been coming off the bench regularly to
replace one of them in the many games where they were not producing. Zylstra in
particular has been a liability on both ends of the court, while Abuou at least
contributed on defense and on the boards. Rose should have been giving Harrison
some of those minutes if for no other reason then to let him develop and grow. I
have heard rumors that Harrison has been very unhappy and is considering a
transfer and if that happens I will consider a big mark against Dave Rose as a
head coach. Harrison has tremendous potential as we saw last night and Rose
should be taking every opportunity he can get to develop him. Here is hoping
that Harrison returns next year and gets the lion share of Abuou's minutes
(unless he decided to serve a mission).
@WhatsInItForMeI agree that Cusick should get plenty of minutes on
Thursday but I dont think Carlino should lose the start. That would only do more
damage to his confidence and Carlino is the future of the program at the point.
We have to remember that he is a freshman and this was his first time playing in
the big dance. We also have to remember that Jimmer struggled against pressure
defense as a freshman and sophomore. I am not saying Carlino will be like Jimmer
but I do think he will get much better with experience. That being said, Cusick
was the difference in being able to mount a comeback against Iona. He was able
to break the press and get the ball down the court so they could get the ball in
to Davies and Hartsock. Without Cusick Davies and Hartsock would not have been
able to score as many baskets. Cusick should get plenty of playing time on
Thursday regardless of whether or not he starts.
Representblue: I agree that Carlino is the future and that he needs to continue
to get plenty of minutes, but like Zystra and Abouo he's been very erratic in
his play. In the biggest games, he has not handled the ball well and made some
very poor decisions -- easily attributable to being a freshman. But in the big
dance, the cougs can't afford those mistakes. With 8 assists and only 1
turnover, Cusick earned some playing time too
@RepresentblueHarrison is not transferring. He is going on a mission
