This article reminds me of an episode with SNL Character Debbie Downer. While
we marvel at how accurate the prognostications of past leaders are some 50 years
ago, here comes the Deseret Editorial Board interjecting the moral decline of
America...Remind me to never invite the Editorial Board to a Party!
One thing about predicting the future, seems like everybody is doing it. Religious people have been doing it forever, it is their main tool. Parents are driven to make their predictions for their kids a
reality.Budget-heads think they can predict financials. politicians of every stripe predict doom from their opposite numbers. Conservatives predict doom from national debt. Liberals
predict doom from commercial oppression. And people are suckers for
them all. The best course of action would be to see the truth of
where we are now and how we got here, then decide where to go.
What made America great? Was it individuals who "did their own thing"
or was it stable families who provided the platform to helped children to excel?
The list of people of "did their own thing" and propelled civilization
forward is a very short list; but, the list of families who taught their
children correct principles, thereby enabling those children to accomplish
difficult tasks, is long. Single parent households MAY succeed. Schools MAY succeed.Caring friends who influence children
MAY succeed. But, the most sure way to help a child find success is
by insuring that that child has a caring father and a caring mother who fill the
role of "parents". Other methods MAY work, but are the
lives of our children to be forfeited to "experiments"? "The Family: A proclamation to the World" sums things up about as well
as any document every written.
"Things are not as bad as they seem." From LDS Church News Feb. 18
