efoodsdirect.com is another good place to get food storage. They create their
own products and source their own ingredients, unlike most other companies that
just use Mountain House products.
Everyone should have spare stuff around. Not because of some potential
apocalypse or another, but because it's a good idea. We live where earthquakes
and winter can cause trouble. I even keep a few thousand beer on hand.
The concept of food storage has been around long before any mormon church
official came up with the idea. People used to farm their land and hunt and
stored food to get them thru until the next harvest and hunting season. As
people began moving to the cities and no longer growing (or hunting) their own
food, the idea of food storage began to dwindle. You will still find that most
country folks have food storage.
My husband jokes about "going to the store" when he goes downstairs to
get some food or supplies. I agree, it has saved us a LOT of money,
as I stock up when stuff is on sale. I'm not running out to the grocery store
at the last minute...and spending even more money impulse buying, or eating out
because there's nothing in the house. Now if I could just get my
grown children to do the same...but they know I have it if they need it.
Just bought 100 lbs. of wheat today to replace what we have used. We have a
storage program but we are wanting to improve it. I think the Church's program
of having three months of the foods you like and eat in your pantry is really
good. Then expand it to a full year and learn to use your storage food and
replace it as it is used. It's always good to follow the Prophet and be
prepared for whatever happens. I'm so glad that others are beginning to follow
this program as well.
