I disagree with giving t coaches a C+. I would have given them a B, and the
overall team a B+.Calling for the pass after Devonte's KO return to
the GATech 30, was sketchy, but otherwise I thought they were well coached...and
that showed when it mattered. The biggest grade: 2-0.That is
Utah is now 2-0 vs GATech and 2-0 all time in the Sun Bowl.
2-0 in sun bowl... 2-0 v. ga tech... WHOOPTY DOO! lol Go 2-0 against the #2 team
in the country and 2-0 in the NCG then you can boast... For now it is another
whoopty doo victory like the one on september 17th in provo.... Carry on
enjoying your meaningless victories and meaningless bowl victories!
I agree with the first post in that the coaching was pretty good. White has
proven that he can handle a big number of carries and maybe he should have had
more. But coaching isn't just offensive play calling, the adjustments they made
defensively the second half were a huge reason they were able to win. They held
them to under 100 yards the second half.Georgia Tech was a really
good team and the spread option is one of the hardest schemes to stop. Overall
the Utes played good enough on all sides of the ball to get the win.As far as it being "meaningless" I strongly disagree. To be apart
of any bowl game is a big deal to a college football team. It means 15 more
practices which is close to as many as you get during spring training. Also the
Sun Bowl is one of the oldest bowl games around and has some great tradition.
Plus this game was Nationally televised on New Years Eve - that's a big
recruiting tool and gives the program some good media especially when they win.
Anything but meaningless in my opinion.
@ 54-10 whoopty doohaha really? and BYU's win over Toledo...Tulane,
or one of those mediocre mid major teams, was a meaningful victory? Either way I would rather have one meaningless bowl game than an entire
meaningless season like BYU had.... and will keep having after their 1st loss
every year until they join a conference.Congrats Utah! great bowl
win over a solid BCS team. 13-4 in bowl games now!! best bowl percentage in the
nation! (for any team with 10 or more bowl appearances.) I would say that is
AW whooty doo needs a hug!
@meaningless hater in bountifulTwo meaningless losses against UTAH
and texas cost your team, at least, a major bowl or a $17,000,000 BCS payday.
At 11-1, with all your espn pull, a BCS invite was right there, but your team
quit in LES and couldn't finish the deal in Texas.LOL.Enjoy!
And how many wins did u get over teams with a winning record?
"And how many wins did u get over teams with a winning record?"Anchor Clanker Gary:Other than the bowl game? Off the top of
my head I can remember one down in Provo a while back.
and that is the highlight of your year. pitiful.
USNGary:Utah had 3 wins over teams with a winning record: Montana
St, Ga. Tech, and the Indy-WACers in Provo. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have counted
MSU, since they ARE an FCS team, but seeing as how they put up a much better
fight than your guys did [plus THEY never quit], I guess that sort of makes them
a tad more relevant. At any rate, you're only victories over teams
with winning records were Utah St. and Tulsa. And by my recollection, both of
those wins were narrow victories won in the final 11-seconds of
regulation...ergo, you STRUGGLED against them. And contrary to you
and your fellow irrelevant - albeit self-important - frantic and emotional Y
fans, the highlight of Utah's season was a hard-fought O/T win over Ga. Tech in
the Sun Bowl. It must really sting for you Y fans to know that the Sun Bowl is
significantly more prestigious than the Armed Forces Bowl, and that Ga. Tech is
significantly more respectable than both Tulsa and your mid-majored team that no
relevant BCS conferences ever wanted. Pitiful.54-10, and your boys
Navalvet, I never said I was a buy fan. I grew up in south Carolina. Go
gamecocks. You guys are so paranoid.
And you still reference the byu game. Pitiful vet. My point was made.
SC eh? Well then you've known for years exactly how "meaningless" one
specific non-conference game every year is. I'm sure it's killing you the Tigers
are in the Orange Bowl.
USNGary:Look, I GET why you're too embarrassed to admit that you're
a Y fan. The cougars are so mid-majorey. But let's not be dishonest here. You
ARE a cougar fan, and everybody here knows it.For starters, the U
had more wins over teams with a winning record than the Y, yet you called
out.....Utah? Ga. Tech beat only one more team with a winning record, but Utah
beat Ga. Tech. So that pretty much settles who is the better team.
Additionally, the SEC's Gamecocks don't follow either the ACC's Yellow Jackets,
nor the Pac-12's Utes enough to know who they played, how many of their
opponents had winning records, and then feel compelled to comment on a DNews
"Report Card" article in seasons wherein they played neither. But
cougar fans follow the Pac-12 Utes. And they KNOW who we played. And how many
of them had winning records. Cougar fans have also demonstrated quite the trend
of pretending to be fans of other teams. You're cougar fan. And
you're too embarrassed to admit it. How pathetic of you. How marvelous for us
I just now read the cougars' Report Card, and I gotta say....interesting -- if
not inconsistent -- grading criteria.OFFENSE: The cougars managed
to get 344 total yds in the Armed Forces Bowl [AFB] -- against TULSA -- and
scored 24-pts. The cougars offense was an unbalanced attack of 73% passing, 27%
rushing. And for THAT, the cougars were awarded a "B". The Utes
managed to get 337-yds total offense [only 7 fewer than the cougars] in the Sun
Bowl [SB] -- against GA. TECH -- and scored 30-pts; 24 in regulation. The Utes'
offense was a balanced attack of 57% passing, 43% rushing. And for THIS, the
Utes got....a "C+"? And the cougars' offense turned the ball over
twice as many times as the Utes.Utah played a better opponent,
scored more points, turned the ball over fewer, and only amassed 7 fewer yds
than the cougars but they get a "B" and the Utes get a "C+".
COACHING: The cougars -- a 2-pt favorite entering the game -- rallied from an
11-pt 2nd-Qtr deficit to defeat the 3rd-place team in C-USA by 3-pts. Their
coaches were awarded a "B+". The Utes -- a 3-pt underdog entering the
game -- rallied from a 14-pt 4th-Qtr deficit to defeat the 3rd-place team from
the ACC. Utah's coaches were also saddled with a patched-together,
injury-riddled team, starting a D-II QB. Yet despite overcoming longer odds,
vs. a better opponent, in a superior bowl game, Utah's coaches were only awarded
a "C+".OVERALL: Again, Utah overcame longer odds, to beat
a superior team, from a superior conference, in a superior bowl game, but only
got a "B". The cougars were favored all along, and beat a very
mid-majorey team from C-USA -- which ranked BELOW the ACC -- but they got an
"A-". How can all of this be justified?Only in the
Deseret News, the propaganda wing of the Indy-WACers.
