please reduce class size in public education
Re; Uncle Gadianton | 2:42 p.m. Nov. 28, 2011 I think state
taxpayers should receive a much-delayed tax decrease.
Another story being falsified, misinterpreted, and misrepresented. There is no
way this kind of surplus was created by economic growth or increased jobs.
Dozens of new taxes and fees have been placed on the taxpayers backs and then
there is the high inflation in food, utilities, property taxes, and criminal tax
burden in gas and cigarette hate taxes. Sales tax revenues skyrocket from
inflation, not prosperity or growth. We could have a billion dollar
surplus if we got rid of all the fugitive illegal aliens and the welfare burden
they impose on tax payers and state budgets in education, health care, welfare,
and day care.We can't forget all that law enforcement is
contributing now with rampant revenue windfalls from writing many more thousands
of tickets to add excessive fines to city and state budgets. The
economy and jobs is just as bad and even worse than last year so all the surplus
is being generated by taxation, as the state has been dieing to do.
Inflation- really? Please demonstrate- comments even repeated many times do not
constitute evidence- also lets see a list of the raised taxes and fees- please
cite sources for the billion dollars as well from illegals- making numbers up
and citing talk radio is to no small extent the reason we are in the state of
political turmoil we find now (just say something and keep saying it and it will
become truth or at least the ignorant masses will assume it is truth)- please
cite evidence not just made up numbers that support a personal political
ideology- lets debate from facts not personal opinion then perhaps we can get
So let's keep state salaries rock bottom and take away more state benefits that
I agree with the idea of reducing class sizes. Education has taken a HUGE hit
these last few years. Some of it was good in that we cut useless programs and
staff at some of the schools. However, the cuts went too far these last couple
of years and class sized went through the roof. I won't even get started about
the pay cuts our local teachers took. I know, I know, they should be happy to
have a job and I'm sure they are. However most took a pay cut while paying more
for their health insurance. Time to give a break for those that stuck it out.
@Lost & Orem Parent:Why reduce class sizes? Isn't our goal with
the education system to prepare children for college and jobs in the real
world? The only classes I had in college with less than 50 students
were junior and senior level classes within my specific major. Most of my other
classes were held in auditoriums with 150+ students. That's the reality of
college, shouldn't primary schooling prepare kids for that?At work I
am a member of a team. The company is small but we have close to 50 employees.
When we do meetings, training, etc. it's all of us in one big room. Shouldn't
primary schooling prepare kids for that?Let's face it folks, the
world's population isn't getting any smaller. People need to be accustomed to
being just another face in the crowd and working hard to make sure they stand
out from their peers. If education is to prepare the next generation for life
out in the real world large groups should be encouraged.
Delta that is the WORST argument I have ever heard. I actually laughed out loud
when I read it. I almost hesitate to respond because I can't tell if your post
was serious or not. Our goal for education isn't to have our kids
sit in a classroom of 150 students. Our goal is to teach them how to read,
think, do math, etc. That doesn't happen when you have 35+ kids that are only 6
years old. They need one on one time and that doesn't happen in a large class.
You know I once went to a football game that had 65,000+ people
there. That is reality. Shouldn't we just put our kids into a stadium and teach
them via the PA system?Seriously thanks for the laugh. I needed
