Distance?Right.Couldnt have anything to do with the fact
that byu is 0-7 against the only decent teams they've played the past two years.
Couldnt have anything to do with that.My guess - this
kid wants to play with true athletes.
It's not exactly a 20 minute drive from Florida to Boston College.LOL.And byu fans wonder why they'll never be a nationally relevant
program.Being on ESPN makes you nationally "visible."not nationally "relevant"No real conference wants
you.Athletes don't want to play for you.LOL
He must not have ESPN. That's the only logical way this could have happened.
How good is he?
Hey Chris B. Actually, I heard he was wanting to play point guard at Utah.
what's the utes record against decent teams in the last two years?
@Chris B,Utah is not close to a PAC 10.2 title game. They need to
win the next two games and have Arizona State lose one. Close would mean they
are in first place and control there own destiny. Plus I highly doubt that Utah
would beat Oregon to make the Rose Bowl.
Ballfan6,I'm simply pointing our facts.BYU is 0-7
against the only decent team they've played. No one wants you in
their conferenceAthletes want to win games and compete for a
national championship, not get forced bible study all day.BYU can't
be anything but an average program with the honor code(Note - 30 years ago a few
offensive minds exploited the lack of passing defense and you could overcome
lack of athletes. Today you can't)You will never go to a BCS
game. These are the facts.Sorry if you dont like them. But byu had made the decision to force the honor code so heavy that it
kills any chance at a good football program. It's your decision.Deal with it.
motorbike:Derrick Brown must not have had the PAC 12 Network... oh
wait he went to another PAC 12 school.Maybe the 8 players that left
the basketball program last year weren't cc'd on the new conference/new tv
network memo either.
Chris B. Just a few months ago you said Hinds wasn't an athlete, that was after
he committed to BYU. Now he will de-commit to paly at Utah. You said that
Whitt had pulled his offer. Whats up. You are so conviced that Utah has a great
crop of "athletes" and that BYU has only a few. My guess is that in
the opinion of the great Chris B. that if someone isn't black then they aren't
an athlete. By your definition of "athlete" then BYU should lose
every game, every year. Our overall record in all sports is so much better than
Utahs that it isn't worthy of comparison. Utah is a botomfeeder in the PAC12 in
every sport. Baseball and softball teams might as well not even compete as thet
will lose every conference game. Track? good luck with that. Have fun being
the laughingstock of the PAC 12.
He likely wants to play against quality teams and actually have a chance to win.
Maybe Roscoe should have Jake give him a call and tell him about the national
championship he's going to lead BYU to, I bet that would work.
You could see this coming a thousand miles away( literally).1. He's
not mormon2. It's November. The reality of BYU irrelivance is hitting
home. I'm sure he attempted to stay up early into Sunday morning watching the
Idaho game and realized what a horrible mistake he'd made.
so someone on this thread has made it clear that BYU's excuse for having a down
year is the honor code, which is a legitimate excuse, so what is the utes'
excuse for having a down year?
Let's look at the facts...BYU has six other commits at
linebacker. He's from Florida. He's a devout Catholic.Seems like Boston College is a good choice for him. They'll
play in Florida regularly being in the ACC. They're not as deep at linebacker so
he will more likely recieve playing time. And, he's a catholic going to a
catholic school. Seems like a wise move! Best of luck to him!
I think the u is going to refocus this year on the red rocks and women's bball
team. They are drawing much bigger crowds than their fball and bball programs.
Thank heavens for title 9. As a taxpayer this is the right thing to do. chrissy,
it's okay you'll enjoy it more and they'll be more successful.
According to Rivals, Wofford also had offers from Harvard, Princeton, and Navy.
Must be a smart kid. Academics at BC are top drawer. It's no surprise a devout
Catholic kid with a solid academic pedigree would want to play for Notre Dame or
Boston College. Plus ACC > Indy-WAC. This decision could not have been a
difficult one to make.
So, Chris B, are you saying then that Van Noy, Hoffman & the Reynolds
brothers are not athletes?
@Chris B, plyxply, and hedgie - yes, surely playing with "true
athletes" and wanting to win was his motivation. Those winning "true
athletes" being 3-7 this year, including a 30-3 shellacking at the hands of
UCF which BYU managed to beat, and a loss to the powerhouse Duke. Oh wait, Duke is a powerhouse in a different sport.Your comments
are not only an embarrassment to 4BS, but to sports fans everywhere. I think
the real bafflement to most readers is why you're not embarrassed by your own
Half of these comments by Utah fans. Sorry Ute fans, but you really are obessed
with what the BYU program does or dosen't do.
riddlemethis -"Derrick Brown must not have had the PAC 12
Network... oh wait he went to another PAC 12 school. Maybe the 8 players that
left the basketball program last year weren't cc'd on the new conference/new tv
network memo either."I'd love to give you props for a humorous
retort but the Pac 12 Network and TV arrangements hadn't been announced at the
time of your above examples which made your comment flop.I
understand your pain and your need to create a funny/jabbing response, but
you've gotta come with something better than that.
@ lvsportsfan "so someone on this thread has made it clear that
BYU's excuse for having a down year is the honor code, which is a legitimate
excuse, so what is the utes' excuse for having a down year?"Two
"legitimate" reasons:1) Starting quarterback is out.2)
Playing in a real conference...in fact...playing in A conference might have been
a good enough response to your question.
Chirs B,Dude, you have so much hate for BYU and you just love taking
any chance you have to talk smalk on them. You must really have a sad life. You
need to find other things in life to make you happy.I'm not going to
say anything bad about Utes football or basketball. Their 3-4 conference record
and picking last place for Pac 12 basketball speaks for itself. Chris B, give it up, you're a BYU hater, we all know it. You love bashing BYU
when they're down, and even up. Move on with life dude.
Hopefully BYU can find a good lineman or DB for this scholarship. 7 is too many
LB's for one recruiting class. He is a good one and one I wish had not
de-committed but luckily BYU has several really good LB's coming in this
year. One poster here really needs to get a life. He / She is
literally consumed with hating BYU. Way beyond a normal obsession. If the DN is
responsible they will give the real identity to the authorities as someone who
they should keep an eye on.
LOL! I am amazed at the mental control that Chris B has over so
many people on here. ha ha ha! as far as this kid and the
decommit. Ah...you win some, you lose some. Long ways to go before signing
day. BYU, though they have most of their commitments already, could still land
someone who is even better. I still expect Butch Pau to decommit.
expecting that before signing day.
lvsportsfan,IF ASU loses one more game(which since they've lost two
in a row to not great opponents, is very likely) you will be watching an Oregon
utah Inaugural Pac 12 Championship game with winner going to Rose Bowl. How is that a "down" year?LOL
@lvsportsfanReally? Your name implies that your a sports fan. Had you not
noticed Utah lost its starting QB? At any rate a down year for Utah still equals
a 54-10 whipping of BYU.
Unfortunate. I believe he was always one of the top 5 performing commits from
Brandon Gurney, along with 4 other BYU commits. Now he'll have to
fill that spot with another of the BYU commits.
Seriously, someone get Roscoe to put Jake on a conference call with Wolford so
he can tell him about the national championship he's going to lead the Cougars
to. How could he not agree to recommit to BYU. Probably need to get Jake's pr
guy on the line too, but that's really all it would take.
@pugmanim guessing you are new around here? discussions like this
are just part of the territory. Whenever byu or utah loses a commitment like
this, the other fan base appears in droves to talk about what a huge loss this
is, as though this person is surely a heisman candidate already. They mock and
laugh and come up with clever little anecdotes and then life goes on tomorrow.
Now, if you ask someone like Counter Intelligence, its clearly Ute
fans who do this more, but the statistics would show that its about even. just
sit back and enjoy the humorous comments from both sides.
Motorbike:Sorry that went over your head. Derrick Brown decommitted
in Jan. The Pac network was announced in Jul. I was illustrating the absurd by
saying that had he known it was coming he wouldn't have left. But went to a PAC
school anyway so it is a moot point.----"I understand your pain
and your need to create a funny/jabbing response, but you've gotta come with
something better than that."which was in response to YOU
originally using TV smack.Looks like it was your comment that
@wiliaryyou owe me a new keyboard. spit water on that one. Nice!
Ute Fans,The last thing you should hope for is Utah going to the
Pac-12 Championship Game. Do you really want to get humiliated by Oregon 69-0?
On that big of a national stage? You're bowl eligible, just look forward to
that. You really should root against a title game berth, and I'm sure Fox and
the rest of the Pac-12 is rooting against it as well. What an embarrassment it
would be for them and that inaugural game!
wait so you're saying that utah's excuse is that they can't win with a back-up
QB and that they are playing in a "real" conference, implying that
they are playing a harder schedule? hmm interestingoh and by the
way, ASU actually has to lose both games and utah has to win both games to go to
the championship, ASU holds the tie breaker!and nobody has answered
my original question: what is the utes' record against decent teams in the last
Re: williarySince I see Chase Hansen on that top-5 list regularly,
are you predicting a decommit to BYU either pre or post-mission? I like it. Come
@Chris B"It's not exactly a 20 minute drive from Florida to Boston

same conference as Boston College@Bear"Utah is not close

Arizona State to lose 2 games (if they're head to head with Arizona State then
Utah loses, if it's a three-way tie including UCLA the lowest ranked team, UCLA,
falls out, then head to head is used so Utah loses that way too).@ivsportsfan"so what is the utes' excuse for having a down year?
"Wynn being injured. Unless you mean basketball, in which case
I'm going to go with "Obama criticized Romney's support for using Utah
basketball footage as an enhanced interrogation technique saying it blatantly
violates the Geneva Conventions against torture".
@ Kosta well said my friendside note: can we make a rule that when
you make a comment on a sports thread you can't use "lol"
anyone on here actually surprised that Chris B was the first to comment (twice)
on this article?students change their minds, it happens. Trolls
don't seem to be able to grasp that.
@Chris B"IF ASU loses one more game(which since they've lost two in a
row to not great opponents, is very likely) you will be watching an Oregon utah
Inaugural Pac 12 Championship game with winner going to Rose Bowl."False. UCLA 4-3ASU 4-3Utah 3-4That's our
starting point. Utah needs UCLA and ASU to lose one to catch up to them. That
sets up a three-way tie and they're all even head to head. The tiebreaker then
is to drop the lowest ranked team (that'll be UCLA) and use head-to-head of the
remaining two. ASU beat Utah so ASU would move on. So Utah needs to win twice,
have UCLA to lose, and ASU to lose twice. After all that, the only reason Utah
would be going to the PAC-12 championship is because USC is disqualified. "How is that a "down" year?"Utah got
destroyed in three games, none of them were by Oregon or Stanford. Speaking of
which... Utah didn't play Oregon or Stanford which gave it an easier conference
schedule than all other conference teams and they still need a miracle to get
@JosephMother"Do you really want to get humiliated by Oregon
69-0?"We have a great defense... it'd be a 38-10 Oregon win.
Chris, you forgot one other "small" thing. you do realize there are
only two teams that Utah has beaten this year that have winning records?
Montana State and your beloved BYU. Sorry, beating Arizona and Oregon State
don't count as quality opponents this year (according to your logic)Explain this one to me. According to you, BYU is apparently not quality, so
you're saying the only quality team the U has beaten this year is Montana
State....Did I get that right?
Re: atl134Well said. And if Utah can't get to the Championship Game
this year, then when? The stars were aligned this season. Unfortunately in the
future they'll have to worry about USC and probably have to play at least one of
the top-2 teams in the conference.
To Chris B and plyxply and hedgie - yes, surely playing with "true

I doubt that many devout catholics would be happy at BYU anyway, so wish him
Looks like Religious bias is rearing its ugly head again... then nobody expects
the Spanish Inquizition.
@JosephMotherUtah doesn't have to play Oregon/Stanford next year either.
2013 and 2014 we don't play Cal or Washington State, 2015 and 2016 we don't play
Washington or Oregon State. So we have one more year without the big two before
playing them both four years straight. We'd have White around next
year, and most of our defense and line returning. If we were to have a healthy
Wynn or recruit a good QB (worst case, if we were somehow stuck with Hays he'd
at least be experienced) I think that would be the difference. Assuming all
that... next year would have pretty good shot at getting to the PAC_12
championship game. USC would be a problem but Barkley leaves after this season
so their QB situation would be a question mark as well. After next year we lose
White and Wynn and we'd need to know how the next two recruiting classes turn
out before we could judge 2013 but schedule-wise it would get harder so the odds
would not be that good.
Wait, I messed up my previous comment. I forgot that USC-UCLA get to play
Stanford and Cal every year. That means the teams Utah doesn't play each
season are...2011-2012 Oregon, Stanford2013-2014 Washington State,
Cal2015-2016 Washington, Stanford2017-2018 Oregon State, Cal and then so on in that pattern assuming no conference changes.
Didn't the athletes of UNLV shut out the utes a few years ago? Chris B! Can't
take the facts, can you? The utes are a mid to low level fooftball team with a
resume below the cougs.
Ute hope for the Rose Bowl:* don't play Oregon* don't play
Stanford* USC doesn't qualifyGive Utah the Rose Bowl without
having to earn it? Chris B. You're funny!
JosephMother:"The last thing you should hope for is Utah going
to the Pac-12 Championship Game. Do you really want to get humiliated by
Oregon...You really should root against a title game berth..."I
wouldn't expect a cougar fan to understand this, but Utah doesn't look to run
away from competition, and shelter ourselves under the umbrella of weak WAC
teams and bottom-tiered postseason destinations. That's really been more your
style. Utah fans always root for a Utah win and Pac-12 Division and Conference
Utah COULD end up playing in the Rose Bowl. Let's see, where else COULD they
end up?Las Vegas anybody? Maybe against Boise State? Or TCU? Ah,
what memories. As for the linebacker? A devout catholic committing
to go to a devout mormon school, then changing his mind to go to a devout
catholic school? Keep looking for the hidden message there, boys.
My handles says it all.
All conference affiliation does is give justification to losses when the reality
is a loss is a loss no matter conference affiliated or not. It is okay that Utah
has 1 more loss than byu because of who they played and because WHOOOPTY DOOOOO
beat 'us' 54-10 in LES. UCLA also factors in to the Utes hopes of going to
Eugene for the butt whooping of the year. How bout this Utes.... Worry about
beating the other Cougars from Up North before even pretending to sniff the air
for Roses... Cougars, Buffaloes and Ducks stand in your way.. In that order! ...
Can the mighty braves beat all their animal foes? Stay tuned because opinions
don't matter it is what happens on the field that does!
Riddle -"Looks like it was your comment that flopped."Okay you win. I guess all those recommendations weren't a very accurate
gauge. Suggestion...relax a little, don't take it all so seriously and
have a little fun. After all, BYU will fill that spot with another good
recruit and at some point you'll get another chance at a quick witted comment as
well.It's all good.
Re: atl134I don't think Stanford will be one of the top two teams in
the Pac-12 next season since Luck will be leaving for the NFL after his junior
year. My point is, since you can't really know who the best two teams in the
conference will be year over year, Utah was just very fortunate to have missed
both #1 and #2 on their schedule this season, and with USC being out of it and
Utah's other tougher opponets being played at RES (ASU, Washington, UCLA), they
had everything going for them. Not going to be any easier than 2011, probably
Naval Vet,Utah has no business and certainly doesn't deserve to go
to any Pac-12 Championship Game and if they somehow miraculously do go, they
will most likely be 25+ underdogs in Vegas and Oregon would probably cover that
spread and it could be even worse. Is that something Ute fans really want to be
part of? The many Ute fans I have a close association with would be scared to
death of that proposition and would rather just take the bowl game and be done
No Chris B you are only showing your hate for BYU, not pointing out anything.I hope this young man will enjoy his time at Boston College.
motorbike:You're right. It's all good. Your reading comprehension
issues notwithstanding. I was referring to your second comment not your first.
(See: "all those recommendations" on your second comment). The thing
is when you make a TV smack comment you can't call someone out for responding
with a TV smack comment.And relax a little?Certainly you
being uptight had nothing to do with you responding to my comment right?
@worfIf Utah is a mid to low level football team, answer me
this...What does that make BYU?54-10 drubbing to that
low level football team not even 2 months ago, on your home field.Lost 7 of the last 10 games to that low level football team.Watched that low level football team finish undefeated seasons twice in the
last 6 years, while BYU failed to do the same playing in the same conference.Again, do BYU fans not realize how bad it makes their team look to talk
@Counteryou have to throw Chris B out of that equation. Not one Ute
fan would claim him. Additionally, you need to compare all stories. For
example, why don'y you meander over to the article about the Utah basketball
motorbike:" at some point you'll get another chance at a quick
witted comment as well. It's all good."You got me. Your TV
smack comment was quick witted, my TV smack comment that poked fun at your TV
smack comment was made because I'm uptight.
What was this article about . . . ?
If Utah is a mid to low level football team, answer me this...What
does that make BYU?Charitable.Your big brother didn't
want to see U go through your entire PAC 12 debut season without a meaningful
win, so he gift-wrapped 7 delicious turnovers for you to feel better about
@kosta hunterSorry but throwing out utah's 2nd biggest troll, that
would be chris b because you and you 50 screen names are utah's biggest troll by
a large margin, because you think it makes your argument is not going to work.
Between chris b and your 50 screen names alone there are far more comments on
BYU articles than BYU fans ever post on utah articles and that is before we
throw in hedghog, naval lint, williary, howard s, mormon ute, kamute, motorbike,
hailstorm, lvute..........and about 1000 more of you.Now I admit I'm
not sure how many of those are actually just more of your screen names, the all
might be, but any way you dice it this is won contest utah "fans" have
all wrapped up. Congratulations.
What does this matter? The Cougars can recruit anyone and win half the games on
their schedule."this is won contest utah "fans" have
all wrapped up." Wow, now that is well written. I believe the word is
Is that how it works?People start throwing out names as to who the biggest
troll is and suddenly Ducky appears out of nowhere? If nothing else his
timing in impeccable.
Decommitting happens in all programs. It's sort of ridiculous to get so excited
about someone leaving. Usually nobody hears about the players that leave in
between seasons especially if the player does not play all that much. I know
both Utah and BYU have multiple players leave each year and the media rarely
figures it out until Spring ball starts back up. With that said, I
always thought that Lavell Edwards Stadium would be a great aquarium after BYU
becomes irrelevant and the church drops football. Fill in the corners, add a
salt water system and fill it up. The school could place the old relics and
trophys on the bottom and charge admission for scuba lessons. The old timers
could swim to the bottom to see the 1984 trophy and statues of Cosmo, Lavell,
Young, all the Reynolds, etc. It's going to be great.
riddle -You're funny dude. Re-read your posts and tell me who's
uptight. You've got me laughing pretty hard at the irony in your comments. There's plenty I could write in response to your comments that I suppose would
put you in your place but that's not, and never was, my intention.Lets
have a little fun man. My initial comment was a little ESPN jab made in jest.
Your subsequent comments are the uptight ones.Truth is, BYU's got a great
arrangement with ESPN that Coug fans should be proud of and I highly doubt TV in
any shape or form had anything to do with this recruit reneging on his word.
I really think that Navel vet has been down in his sub a little too long!
Motorbike:Haha! Thanks for the laughs.
Seriously WHY is Chris B the first to comment on every BYU article? It like he
sits by his computer waiting and watching for the next article, so he can spew
the most hateful, confrontational, unfounded lies possible.Des News is
supposed to have rules. I cannot think of a more offensive poster than Chris B.
Please reject his posts!!!!!!
Unfortunitely this likely means BYU is going Big East. Although not stated this
recruit was not recruited by Notre Dame and with BYU as an independant he would
play Notre Dame annually. BYU no doubt informed him and others that may be
adversely effected that they will soon announce acceptance of a Big East offer.
Which is likely to effect scheduling with Notre Dame.Boston college is scheduled
to play Notre Dame (the Original Holly war) annually through 2019. I
wish BYU would have stuck to independance. There is strong momentum for the BCS
to drop all AQ status in 2013. Which will be great for independants.
williary,Utah is mid to low level. Has nothing to do with BYU or
anyone else? Can't beat Notre Dame, Cal, Arizona State, TCU, Washington, Boise
State, or Southern Cal. Chris B. insults BYU, than brags about the utes not
playing Oregon or Stanford,--than she thinks the utes deserve a Rose Bowl. What
do you call that?
One more Thing..........Dear Chris B,You like to point out in every
post about how BYU has no athletes. You know this because I am sure you played a
lot of sports in your life, right? NOTI am a women and I say lets see how
much of an athlete you are. Pick any sport, if I beat you; you will never
post again.I will post my email to contact me if your man/women enough to
take me up on my challenge.?????
motorbike:No hard feelings brotha but you are one curious cat. You
throw a jab, and I threw a jab back. We're supposed to take your jab in stride,
but mine was uptight? Not arguing with you or trying to put you in your place
but it just doesn't add up. But hey, if you're going to get hurt
feelings, sounds like we just need to let you have your day, and not comment on
what you say.
I get the whole going to a Catholic college thing, just like an LDS kid would
want to go to an LDS school. But really, BC. They are terrible. I mean really
terrible - a program in crises. Him picking BC over BYU really is an indication
of something - what I am not sure. Something must have really spooked him off.
The guy saw all the might WAC foes he will be playing against and got scared and
woke up, no big deal here.
@kosta hunter 54-10It looks like you're using the full arsenal of
screen names today. Pathetic. No one buys into it.
I can't wait until the first Ute player decommits. I rather doubt
the 'religion' card will be played or distance!
re: UtahBlueDevil | 5:09 p.m. Nov. 15, 2011 "...picking BC over
BYU really is an indication of something - what I am not sure. Something must
have really spooked him off." Could it be carrots in the jello?
Does he know that BYU may be joining the Big East Conference?
BYU will lose more recruits as long as its football schedules has a majority of
teams from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS)instead of teams from from
a BCS conference. Players want to be seen by NFL Scouts just like fans attending
the games want BYU to play and win against teams from BCS conference. Look at
this years attendance as its even shown on ESPN and one can see ticket sales
dropped this year from previous years. Whoever is scheduling teams of this
caliber needs to be questioned as it doesn't look better for the next few years.
Every time BYU schedules an FCS team it hurts BYU arguement to be in BCS
conference, be ranked in the top 25, and play in BCS Bowl. What does happen is
loss of sports revenue, lower game tickets sales, less donations and drop in
Cougar Club memberships even if BYU is on ESPN and KBYUtv.
Hypotheses about why he decommitted to go to another good school are irrelevant.
Pretending that you "know the real reason" is foolish. Sometimes good
players go to weak programs because they think they can play sooner. Sometimes
it's the opposite. They change because they think they won't play a lot because
of the talent there. But it makes no difference. He sounds like a
good kid. Let's hope he does well.
I have been tallying the number of Cougar fans Chris B has provoked into whiney,
lame comments, versus good comments, and guess what the score is?Chris B: 54Cougars: 10
Chris b mark it down somehow if Utah does play the ducks the score will be 54-10
Chris B:This quote from you really shows your true colors:"Byu had made the decision to force the honor code so heavy that it kills
any chance at a good football program."So what are you saying?
Football players who excel have to be promiscuous smokers who drink alcohol?
Why are clean living and athletic excellence mutually exclusive? Are you suggesting that any school with any hopes of succeeding in athletics
has to run the program the way Ohio State, Penn State, Miami, etc. operate, by
covering up illegal activities such as selling championship rings and jerseys in
exchange for tattoos by student-athletes at OSU, child sex abuse at PSU and
prostitution for players paid for by boosters at Miami?I can't
believe what I am reading from you. I would think in today's climate of scandal
there should be more schools looking harder at having an honor code instead of
allowing ANYTHING to happen in order to keep winning at all costs. You really think that BYU is wrong to expect athletes to live by the rules
that are taught by the religion sponsoring the school?
Lets see BYU still has 6 commits at LB for 2012 including Butch Pau'u and Troy
Hinds. Looks like they are still in good shape, I dont think losing one recruit
will hurt much.
Wow, that is a lot of linebackers to be recruiting for one class. Ethical?Sure this kid just looked right through the empty promises and decided to go
where he will be more likely to play sooner.
I'll bet he doesn't know about the HD truck.
He seems like a quality kid! Best of luck to him at BC (heaven knows they could
use all the help they can get this year). If BYU joins the Big East,
I look forward to more heavily recruiting in Florida. Their are excellent ball
players down there (just look at the FCS teams in Florida...excellent talent).
Most probably wouldn't want to come to BYU (culture shock, honor
code, etc.), but some might.
If the honor code extended to behavior on news boards, how many of you would get
kicked out of BYU if you were a student there! Shouldn't all LDS members be
living by this honor code?
Chris B, you make all Utah fans look like idiots. Laughing all the way from
Wally West... very funny!
