John Beck 0Alex Smith 2Way to go Alex! keep proving those
naysayers wrong. Go 49er's!-Ute Nation
I watched the Washington/49ers game and Beck did throw one pick but the reason
Washington didn't score was because they fumbled the ball away on critical times
of the game - not Becks fault. Both fumbles gave San Fran great field position
around the 30 yard line and led to easy scores. Also, both fumbles would have
produced first downs for Washington. Beck also had 3 other drops on easy to
handle throws. If we want to evaluate the game fairly then let's do it but to
save the QB is the reason we lost is just plain dumb.
As patriot said, to blame the QB for either the win or the loss is just plain
Interesting that the author of the article says John Harbaugh is the coach of
the niners. No, it's his brother Jim. Not much credibility I suppose.
I wonder if John Beck cried after losing to Alex Smith again?
Yeah. Let's blame John Beck for the fact that the Skins don't have a running
game. Just like it wasn't fair to blame Alex Smith for the 49ers being horrible
prior to this season. The author in the article even admits that if the Skins
had the '9ers run game, either Grossman or Beck might be an adequate QB.Much ado about nothing.
Are they both mormon?
Smith has definitely outperformed Beck this year. His 49ers are 7-1 (2nd best
in the entire NFL) as opposed to Beck's 3-5. The interesting thing is, like the
article says, Beck has actually put up some impressive passing numbers. But the
bottom line is the wins and losses. As far as head-to-head competition, Smith
has had the best of their matchups, going back to the '03 and '04 seasons at
Utah and BYU, respectively.Good luck to both quarterbacks for the
remainder of the year.P.S. I don't hear any of the local Smith
bashers lately. Why not?
Alex smith is not LDS. I loved watching him as a Ute. But
serisously can you really talk smack when he has struggled for 7 seasons or so.
Glad to see the 49er's make some headway.
Yes Northern, Ute fans/Alex Smith supporters CAN talk smack... its return smack
for all those who got on these comment boards and trashed Smiths name the last 7
years even though anyone with any football knowledge whatsoever could see that
there were major problems with that entire organization giving him little chance
to succeed. Now that Alex has a few pieces in place and some decent
coaching we're seeing what he can really be...and I anticipate we'll see better
and better performances from him in the future.
Alex Smith has learned to play within his ability level and quit making
mistakes. The 49er offense is nothing to go home and brag about, but their
defense is great. The Redskins looked terrible, and John Beck didn't play well.
Too bad they've lost all their play makers to injury. It's gonna be a tough road
for John to retain the starting spot.
As a long time 49ers fan and Ute fan, it's great to see the team and Alex Smith
both doing well. I attribute the success mostly to Jim Harbaugh. He's a great
offensive coach who knows QB's and what it takes to be successful. The 49ers
prior OCs and Head Coaches were trying to make Alex perform their schemes
without considering his strengths and weaknesses. I think Harbaugh has built an
offensive scheme that helps Alex succeed by having a strong running game and not
expecting him to play outside his abilities. Also, a top notch defense helps by
keeping the opponents score low enough that it doesn't take 40 points a game to
win.Hopefully Alex can continue to learn and improve with the
confidence he has gained this season. I don't expect him ever to reach Joe
Montana or Steve Young level, but I think the 49ers will be playoff contenders
for several years with Alex at QB. Hopefully Kaepernick will have the patience
that Steve Young did to wait and learn until it is his turn.
