I thought Republicans were all about less government regulation. Oh, that's
right. Less regulation on them, more on everyone else. Certainly something
that Jesus would do.
@Midwest MomThere's a lot of excess baggage in that comment of yours. The
Real ID Act was the result of some very evil people flying airplanes into
buildings and killing 3,000 innocent people in the process.Congress
(controlled by Democrats at the time) passed the Real ID Act in an effort to
keep terrorists from gaming the system and getting licenses. George W Bush
signed the Act into law. Now, what was it you had to say about this
Real ID is less about 9-11 and more about grand-standing, knee-jerk reactions by
photo-op politicians. You'd feel differently about this, Third try, if this
impacted your ability to drive.
Congress set the standards for drivers license ID, and it is a pain (even for
native born U.S. citizens) but it is a logical process and if followed will
help. Thus the problems being encountered by this family. However, the process is not foolproof. It is widely known that illegal
document mills will produce fake drivers license, social security cards, birth
certificates and other forms of ID for around $300 or less.Blind
adherence to the process for legal immigrants is perhaps a good thing, but the
rampant document fraud and fake ID business makes it nearly worthless as an
actual security measure. But, it is a program designed by Congress,
so no one should be surprised by the cost, complexity, inefficiency and
@Midwest MomI feel your pain. We've been at this since the mid-1980s.
First kids had to get Social Security cards to enter kindergarten. Then they
required us to issue them to babies. All for the purpose of getting a handle on
work authorization. We've done what was expected of us and Washington
failed to enforce the law.I'm not crazy about Real ID and it looks like
there are some inane regs that no one thought of.Sorry for your problem,
but homeland security has been a bipartisan foul-up. They seem to do a great
job of punishing the innocent while leaving loopholes for the bad guys.
Feels more like Nazi germany, let me see your papers please.Am I wrong,
are we not headed in that direction?
The news headline you'll never read is: "Dream Act leaves legal citizens
upset with amnesty for illegals." And another you'll never read
is: "American born citizens feeling hopeless by Federal efforts to combat

Re: Midwest Mom | 4:42 p.m. Oct. 1, 2011 "I thought Republicans were
all about less government regulation."This has nothing to do
with Republicans or Democrats. Utah adopted the federal REAL ID Act in January
2010.There are two things to remember about Jesus.1) We've
kicked Him out of schools and public meetings. It is no longer politically
correct to mention His name.2) There's no record that Jesus ever
drove, and if He did He'd have a valid driver's license in the country of His
Re:Third Try Screen NameREAL ID was passed in 2005 when Republicans
controlled all 3 branches of the federal govt. It first was introduced by
Republicans, was opposed by a majority of Democrats in the House but then got
attached to a military funding bill, ensuring it's passage. Now
Republicans in several states are enacting strict voter ID laws in an effort to
disenfranchise voters. Voter fraud was an issue Bush's Dept of Justice focused
on. When some federal prosecutors (ex. David Inglesias) failed to find
prosecutable voter fraud cases, they were fired.
They could have stayed in their home country and gotten a drivers license there.
As it is, they are clogging up our drivers license registration system and
taking three jobs from american born citizens.

Ok: I appreciate these legal immigrants coming here, contributing to our
economy, and reminding us that the American Dream is still alive and well. Anti Bush-Obama: Thanks for a good laugh this morning.
Legal immigrants are not taking jobs from anyone. They apply and are qualified
to do the job. It is my understanding that companies have to advertise for so
many weeks for people to apply for the job. If people are not qualified or if no
one answers the ads they can look for workers from other countries. I
would think the Labor department of the US government have certain rules that
need to be followed in order to hire people from other countries. A company does
not just decide to hire someone from another country and then just get all the
permits to work in the USA. There is a lengthy process for this to happen. So think before you speak.
Illegal is illegal. I am always surprised how many want our borders broken down
and how they want us a third world country. I am always surprised how many
forget that there are those who would rather slit out throats then give us a
chance to speak freely. I won't however be surprised that when the walls come
tumbling down those who don't believe in borders and safety for America, will be
the first ones crying for help.
Our attempt to check illegal immigration and voter fraud is making it difficult
for legal immigrants? Why don't we just enforce our immigration laws. That's the
middle of the road that no one wants to talk about. Visa or green
card, if not mistaken they should be carrying their papers with them, it's
Federal law. That means that our staff has had to come up to speed
on what type of documents would establish what type of status, Caras said, and
that's not something we've ever had to do before. It sounds like it's
a training issue, go to another DMV office.
Any mention of the Real ID Act brings out the libertarians among us, which is
not necessarily a bad thing. However, I doubt that the real ID Act is what this
story is really about. I suspect it is more about expired visas and other such
issues. Many libertarians also dislike E-Verify and would rather that our
country be over run by border violators and visa overstayers than enforce laws
that would prevent this. In fact many Libertarians believe that there should no
more of a border between the U.S. and Mexico than between Utah and Colorado. If you would like to compete for the lowest wage possible for both
skilled and unskilled labor, perhaps we should have an immigration free for all.
Anyone that believes this may wish to read up on "Substance Wage
Thats not all the real ID act brought us. I searched DS for something referring
to this law change seems like 1933 Germany to me. So thank-you Stephen H.
