If the Big 12 adds Boise ST I think that we should join. I can't think of a
better conference than one that includes BSU, BYU, West Virginia, and Louisville
in its expansion.
I wish something would hurry up and just happen so we can end the speculation.
I don't think any team can compete day in and day out with BSU. They would win
the Big 12 every year. BYU would rarely do better than 4th.
I like this. Put BYU, Boise St, and Texas and stick them in the same
conference. You could call the conference "The Big Ego." Maybe you
could figure out a way to get Ohio St, Notre Dame, and Miami in there as well -
they would fit in.Let all these schools play each other and leave
the rest of us alone.
Andy | 10:53 a.m. Sept. 28, 2011 Cottonwood Heights, UT I don't
think any team can compete day in and day out with BSU. They would win the Big
12 every year. BYU would rarely do better than 4th. ===BYU
would do fine if they would create divisions, and put the two best teams in the
other division. Then put the best team in BYU's division on
probation, and BYU would be 3 weeks into the season, off a bye week, without a W
against a AQ school, and talking about which bowl they were going to. Because
BYU always has had athletic prowess.I just hope if BYU joins the Big
12, and they drop having their games nationally televised, BYU can get a sweet
TV deal with K-Jazz...
Andy - - - and the U could not handle Boise State year in and year out either
Boise State has had a great football program for the last decade. However, it
offers nothing else. It really brings little in the way of other sports, its
fan base and stadium are small, its academics (I am not sure if academics really
matter anymore in this age of follow the money)are not that good, the
accompanying TV market is small and it is out of the Big 12 regional
footprint.Maybe the Big 12 will issue an invite, who knows, but just
don't get hopes up.
Sir Robin in San Diego: happy to leave you alone, no problem there. I cannot
speak for BSU, WVU, Louisville and Mizzou, but I'm reasonably confident the Y
has invitation in hand.
Isn't this era of instant news just great? So much speculation out there and
very little of it has any bearing on reality or what the real end result will
be. It just drives ya crazy sometimes.I'd like to see both BYU and
Boise St. get a shot in a BCS conference so they can prove their mettle against
the best every week. The possible scenarios are all over the place so it will
interesting to see what actually happens.
Who are all these Boise State people who are elevating them to national status
in a BCS conference? If they were serious about this BCS conference deck
shuffling we are being treated to, why did they jump to the Mountain West
Conference; a loser conference. Everyone that has a chance to do something else
are jumping off the MWC ship, not joining it. Come on. Boise State in the Big
10/12/16/? What's that? All these prima dona conference commissioners are just
totally into MONEY, signing up with the networks, and the ESPN's, their own
networks and whatever. Let's just quit all this politicing and get to a
national conference of legitimate Division I football schools, and forget about
the other lesser sports, as in basketball, and the rest of it. No, no, we can't
do anything rash like that. It would upset the status quo, and cut into the
wallets of all the vested interests. What we will continue to do is what we see
happening now; relative chaos, and reshuffling of conference members, seeking
their own self-interests. Well, come to think of it, I guess that is the
American way; everybody on their own, making MONEY.
Perhaps Brave Sir Robin should be put in the "The Big Ego" Conference
and Andy should get a clue. BSU has a great football team and has been good for
the past decade; however, playing a stronger schedule in a stronger conference
will create more loses. I think BSU and BYU will compete in the middle to upper
and once in a while do very well. I see this same scenario for Utah. A rare
window is opened this year for Utah with the scheduling and USC on probation.
BSU has nothing comprehensive to offer the BIG 12. They are not a factor in
expansion. I am not totally convinced BYU is even a factor. If the measure is
football only then BYU and its history has more to offer than BSU. In the end
both may be out in the cold, certainly BSU will be.
Brave Sir Robin | 11:01 a.m. Sept. 28, 2011 San Diego, CA I like
this. Put BYU, Boise St, and Texas and stick them in the same conference. You
could call the conference "The Big Ego."===The
winner of the "Big Ego Conference" could play in the "Big Ego
Bowl" against the University of Utah Fanbase. We could call the
losers of the bowl... "The Losers".I'd watch that game on
Pay-Per View, unless BYU played, then it would be on ESPN. (Does the Ute Fanbase
have part of that sweet deal with K-Jazz?)===But really,
Sir Robin. How did those PAC Xii (Conference of Champions) Utes do against those
"Big Ego" Boise State Girlsies from the WAC in last years Vegas Bowl?
BSU will never join the Big 12. Their fan base, tv revenue, academics just are
not there. You think that Texas will fly up Boise to the Idaho Center and want
to play in front of 4,500 basketball fans? The teams the Big 12 will be looking
for are insitutitions that have a fan base and support their teams. Read an
article from a Boise newspaper that was excited that BSU raised their average
basketball attendance from 3,200 to 4,500 you got to be kidding me an AVERAGE of
4,500 fans? Kinda like a Ute BB game. The Big 12 want teams 'like' (notice I
didn't say the Big 12 wants) BYU 64,000 football and 20,000 basketball and West
Virginia 50,000 football and 15,000 basketball. It's the same reason I don't
think the Big 12 will end up taking a TCU, football their great, but all other
sports they tank. Boise is in the exact same spot BYU was 25 years ago, play 1
good team outside your conference, play you conf patsie's and hope you don't get
upset, (see Nevada last year).
I love reading comments from Ute fans talking about the "Big Ego" that
BYU has but then to go to another comment section on another article and read
comments from Ute fans saying "At least we are in an AQ conference"
@Brave Sir Robin:Seriously "The Big Ego"? That's the best
trash you can come up with? Ever since the Utes joined the PAC I have never
seen such a big ego among players and fans, I see the PAC-12 logo in more places
than the actual Ute logo...I guess the Utes belong in that conference to
then.Boise State has accomplished just as much if no more than Utah
when it comes to football. They deserve their football program in a BCS
Based on all the rumors, I have to believe that an invitation from the Big 12
has already been extended to BYU. I wonder if BYU is trying to negotiate an
invitation for football only. It's got to be killing the church leaders to
think about leaving the WCC (faith based universities) in the first year.
Although it makes all the sense in the world for athletics, it gives the church
a little bit of a black eye. If the Big 12 is extending an invite
to BSU, I have to think it's a football only invite. Boise to Missouri is a
long way to travel for women's softball, and BSU has not been very impressive in
any sport other than football.
I think BYU negotiating a football-only invite could make sense if they are
happy to be in the WCC with the other sports. That would then make sense to add
a team like Boise St as a football-only member. Then the Big 12 members
wouldn't need to travel as far for all their other sports, and both BYU and
Boise St would be in a BCS conference for football.Personally, I
would like BYU to go in as a full member. But then the issue becomes who is
their travel partner. Air Force is probably the best option, but if BYU goes
football only, the Big 12 would rather have Boise St than Air Force. Who knows
how this will play out...just tired of searching for "Big 12 Expansion News
BYU" every few hours.
The "Big Ego" conference is pretty funny considering the players
(Texas and possibly byu). What's really funny to me is how excited
byu fans are to jump off the 'independent' ship. Clearly, the byu collective is
less than enamored with the independence idea they have been raving about for
the last year. I don't know who this Wilner guy is in Central CA writing about
the Big12 and byu, but if an invite doesn't pan out for cougs, your true
feelings of independence have been totally exposed and will leave you terribly

Still Blue after all these years | 11:11 a.m."...I have to
believe that an invitation from the Big 12 has already been extended to
BYU." -- CougFaninTX | 12:58 p.m.Haha! Poor frantic and
emotional cougs. It's got to be killing cougar fans to think they might get
left behind AGAIN! Based on reports in EVERY respectable media outlet with
respect to Big XII expansion...you do NOT have an invitation in hand; you have
NOT been invited. And neither had Boise State. But I hope the
Broncos do. They're a good team; consistent winners playing at a BCS-caliber
level, and it showed by way of their 2 BCS bowls. The cougars....not so much.
They're so very mid-majorey, and it shows by way of their ZERO BCS bowls. No
wonder Boise State LEFT the WAC, while the Y tried to get back IN it!
@ Brave Sir Robin"Let all these schools play each other and leave the
rest of us alone"So, why do you have to comment on BYU articles.
Sounds like you're not leaving BYU alone. What do the most hard-core
BYU football fanatics have in common with the average Ute fan? THEY
ARE BOTH OBSESSED WITH BYU football.
Short of a deal with ND to take both BYU and ND into the B1G (in our dreams),
BYU needs to accept the Big XII offer in full (all sports) soon. Perhaps after
this weekend. If they don't, then they are announcing that they've just
lowered sports to the bottom of the priority list. Football will be gone soon.
So lets go guys, get this done! Make Holmoe's biggest scheduling problem
having to tell teams he just signed up that he must break the deal. And make
Bronco's biggest problem getting his team ready to play top teams every week!
may need another QB for that.
Utah fans are a silly bunch. They are simply like the poor family on the street
that won the lottery a few years ago and just don't know how to act. Before
those days you could walk up to the football stadium half-way through the first
quarter and get a cheap ticket. Congrats on your self-proclaimed lofty perch in
the might PAC 12. Now all you have to do is win. By the way, where are all those
loyal Ute basketball fans from the 1990s? Just wondering.
@brave sir robin. You certainly are brave in the sense of the definition . .
"to defy." However, defiance and illogical (not logical or
reasonable)are really not very attractive or effective characteristics - are
they? Much of an oxymoron, in this case. However, your suggestion is
probably a pretty good one - except for how it would negatively affect your
team. If a SUPER-CONFERENCE were to include those teams that you mentioned,
they would dominate. Watch out for what you wish for!Oh, excuse me,
I forgot that you are brave sir robin and will defy anyone.
Makes the most sense to invite West Virginia and Louisville for all sports, then
invite BYU and Boise for football only... makes an excellent 12 team football
conference, and avoids the BYU/sunday issue and the Boise/lack of other credible
programs/travel issues/costs... 10 team basketball conference, 12 teams for
football. No idea how you'd divide divisions however...probably something like
the Big 10 does that is not so much based on geography. Seems TCU would be the
loser in this "scenario of the day" joining a severly weakened Big
East that will surely lose it's BCS birth.
just-a-fan:"...where are all those loyal Ute basketball fans
from the 1990s? Just wondering."And I was just wondering where
were all those loyal cougar football fans going in the 3rd-Qtr at LES vs. the
Utes 2-wks ago? Were 40,000 fans simultaneously headed to the concession stands
for a hotdog? Why didn't they come back?
More speculation?Why don't they just wait til it's official? I don't
care to know what the DNews MIGHT think will happen.
Personally, I think we have a pretty good set up with independence, West Coast
Conference, ESPN, BYUtv, etc.BYU should call the shots in
negotiating. The Big 12 is on sand. BYU is on rock. Adding Boise State,
Louisville, and West Virginia with BYU would be a reason to consider the Big 12
as a strong foundation and to do it.
1) If BYU gets a BIG 12 invite and says no or goes football only, Dave Rose
will be gone (and I won't blame him a bit).2) @ Naval Vet: Please
define "respectable media outlet"; and please think through your
comments more clearly if you are going to claim affiliation to the Navy -- it's
really embarrassing to the rest of us.3) A poster with the name of

I see BYU, WV, and Louisville all as likely. As much as I would love to see
Boise included I don't see it happening even if Missouri leaves. Missouri leaving is subject to another conference wanting them. The Big 10
and SEC have publicly rejected them.
ZZzzzzz. 'Another' speculation story? Wake me up when something actually
re: just-a-fanI know. We like are totally better than Utah fans. In a few
hundred more wins, we'll match their win total and everything.
On the contrary, no school in the country has been as over the top in their
desperation to become part of the BCS, either in a bowl or certainly as a
member. No group of fans, no administration, no athletic department, no
football team. Utah's football success and recognition in two BCS bowls (one
during the quest for perfection) and now membership in the Pac 12 has only
increased the measure of desperation. Of course in formal public statements the
school will say they have to look at the situation, stability, terms, etc. But
do not kid yourself. Independance was an escape route from a MWC that was a
dead man walking and the best of the bad choices available. But it was always
hoped that it would lead to more exposure and consideration in a BCS conference,
any BCS conference. BYU will say what they need to say but they will take a BCS
membership at whatever terms are required (except of course ones that require it
to compromise on its religious standards). That is of course first and formost
but the rest is a one second decision.
For those BYU fans arguing against the "Big ego" statement made by
Brave Sir Robin-Look at your own fan base, and then reassess about whether
or not that statement is true. Think about it, you just got killed by your rival
(not Utah State. That slaughter is coming on Friday) and appear to be on a
downward spiral, yet you still think your team is the lord's gift to football.
BYU had better get into the Big 12 or just drop big time college athletics.
Independence won't work and was NEVER designed to do so.
Careful Naval vet, you may live to eat those words. Definitive statements can be
such a pain in the neck!
Jeff29:"Naval Vet: Please define 'respectable media outlet';
and please think through your comments more clearly if you are going to claim

take full credit. I had nothing to do with the performances exhibited by
Bronco, Doman, Heaps, and the rest of the cougars last Sept. 17th, and neither

paid their dues for Generations. Boise was a D-2 program just 10-15 years ago?
It's as daft as UConn and S. Florida being in a BCS league, when neither one of
them was D-1 even 10 years ago.If Boone Pickins has his way, none of
these teams will be invited.
Lets look at BYU joining the Big XII from a football scheduling perspective.
What does BYU get? In a ten team conference, it gets nine conference games each
year with regular matchups against powerhouse teams like Oklahoma and Texas.
That leaves three out-of-conference games each season, two of which will always
be against Utah and Utah State. That means that BYU would play the same 11
teams year-in and year-out with only one date each year to schedule an at-large
opponent. Should BYU push aside scheduled dates with Notre Dame, Georgia Tech,
Boise State and Hawaii to make room for conference opponents Iowa State, Baylor
and Kansas? It may be nice to have Texas and Oklahoma guaranteed on
the schedule each year, but you would give up existing and potential matchups
against a variety of marquis teams. BYU should stay independent.
@ Naval VetUtah PAC 12 victories = 0Utah National
Championships = 0Utah BCS National Chamionship appearances = 0So just how great are those Utes? (Ego's excepted of course.)So rag on about BYU. Your bias is showing.(How did Utah do
against BSU? At least the Y missed a field goal in Boise that would have
provided a victory, just like the Utes achieved last year and were 'lucky' to do
that.)My favorite recent Utah score = UNLV 27 - Utah 0. When asked
why his team lost Whittingham said "I don't know." He is a truthful
Do you have any idea why you made a comment on a BYU article? You want the BYU
fans to leave you alone? Are you suffering a complex? If you hadn't commented I
sure wouldn't be wasting my time posting this. Isn't Utah and the PAC-12 good
enough for you to comment on their articles? Not one BYU fan would even know you
existed if you wouldn't post on a BYU article. Just saying!
I say BYU should gladly accept an invite if extended, but if they have to travel
across the Mississippi to Louisville and West Virginia, that's a bit too far.
It would probably be the biggest geographic conference, except maybe the WAC
BSU has nothing to offer. Name your reason, but football is not enough to carry
the day. No record of national or world academic achievement or breakthroughs,
low national rankings in business and engineering schools, poor performance in
the "Olympic" sports, weak tv market, prohibitive travel costs, etc...
BSU is just a name in the wind. I am not certain that BYU is not just a name in
Pac12Proud: You are only talking about a few fans on these articles. The
majority of BYU fans just want to watch BYU games and are not overly concerned
whether BYU is independent or in a conference. We all know that our situation
is much better than it was in the MWC and their terrible tv contract. Get over
CRB: The desperation is not BYU fans, but Utah fans coming on these BYU
articles and goading BYU fans. I believe that they are afraid that if BYU gets
an invite to the Big 12, they will worry that BYU's situation will be better
than theirs. It is pure jealousy, which is what you accuse BYU fans of having.
No. Utah fans are jealous of what might happen. BYU will be fine whether or
not they receive an invite. Most fans are content with that, but are concerned
about their team being able to win, which is what they should be concerned
about. Give it up, Ute trolls. We do not know who has offerred what. Let us
wait to see what happens.
BSU has a great Football Program, But that's where it starts and ends.Their
Academics is comparatively week and they are unhears of in all other sports....
Add to that the fact that their facilities are questionable, they may soon be on
NCAA Probation and that the Boise Televion Market is small and I think that
youthat end up with a tough pill for BSU fans to swallow.... The Big 12 would be
foolish to consider them before the AFA, TCU, Louisville and WVU....For what it's worth, I think that BYU gets invited for 2012, and WVU and
Louisville get invites for 2013.... If Missou bolts, then I think TCU could end
up with an invite....The sad part about all of this is that if
Thompson were a stronger Commish I believe we could have held the old MWC
together, added BSU and Nevada and possibly FSU, had a Championship game and
been AQ branded next year....We needed a Commish that would have
taken on the TV rights issue, and buddied up better with other AQ
Conferences.... Thompson wasn't and isn't the guy and as a result we had a major
Looks like the former Big 12 is aiming towards becoming the Big XVI -- adding
not only BYU and Boise State, but also TCU (who due to changes in the Big East,
who will end up a basketball conference), Air Force and Notre Dame.
These forums only prove that there are not really any Utah fans...just anti-BYU
fans. I am glad to see BYU moving forward with Boise St. I see them as our new
rival and the BYU-Utah game going away. Over time, Utah will fall into
obscurity while BYU rises to greatness. Without BYU, what does Utah really
stand for?? Where do they fit in?? Even Ute fans don't know. They will be
similar to Lex Luther without Superman on his schedule...meaningless. When BYU
doesn't give them something to compare themselves to year in and year out, they
will shrivel up and die. Yes, our offense is currently pathetic and Utah beat
us this year, but every program has their ups and downs. Overall, I am tired of
Utah's arrogance. It is time to cut them off just as we would a parasite that
has grown too annoying. Enjoy your game with Colorado each year Ute fan. We
are now leaving you to wallow by yourselves!!
This never ending restating of the possibility of BYU joining the Big 12 reminds
me of the ongoing Chevy Chase SNL gag: "Generalissimo Francisco Franco is
still dead." Why don't we take a little break from this
"story" until there is actually something to report?
AZCOUG10 - "These forums only prove that there are not really any Utah
fans...just anti-BYU fans."You just stepped down to their level
with this bias statement. There are sports fans for BYU and Utah; and there are
anti-fans for both schools. But that doesn't make an ignorant anti-BYU fan into
a Utah fan or visa versa.
Sorry BYU, T. Boone Pickens gave another speech last night ruling the Cougars
out of the expansion plan.
"Doesn't sound like either are going to the Big12.BYU and Boise
just signed a 12 year deal to play each other.(google it and look at
recent news)."Perhaps you should read the contract, Rico. There is a provision in the contract specifically stating that BYU
cannot buy the game out if they are to join a conference with at least four AQ
teams. There is another paragraph regarding the six months in the
making this deal was. In other words, there is no relation between
the two events.
"Sorry BYU, T. Boone Pickens gave another speech last night ruling the
Cougars out of the expansion plan."When DeLoss Dodds and
President Boren start saying anything other than BYU is less than "high
priority expansion target" (not my words, see the Austin American
Statesman), I will agree that BYU is not in the plans.Who is T.
Boone Pickens? If he's not in the administrations associated with Texas or
Oklahoma he is basically a non-voice in this matter.
I find it amusing how some posters here do their best to elevate Utah/BYU
football at or above BSU's level. Let me reming you, please, since BSU entered
D1 football, The Broncos are undefeated in 6 contests with the 2 schools, Utah
has lost at home, 36=3, 31-28, and on the Blue 26-20. Plus The Vegas Bowl last
year, a mismatch. BYU Lost 28-27 on the Blue and 50-12 in Provo. Knocj The
MWC all you want, but just remember BSU is 7-1 vs the BEST the conference had to
offer in Utah, BYU, and TCU.Other sports, yes we lack in Basketball..thats
why we hire Gonzagas Head Assistant. Already he has improved the schedule and
out recruiting has turned a corner. Take note BSU has won the PAC12 Wrestling
Championship 3 of the last 4 years. Womens sports have competed in the National
Tournaments and are on an upswing as well.Facilies? 53 MIL in Improvments
and capacity to 55000 in 2 years.Same thrust in academics.Looking
forward to the BYU Series, we wish everyone the best. For just 35 years a
4yr school, were on the move up.
BYU maybe - not Boise. Boise has a good football program .. for now . Boise has
a crappy basketball, baseball, track , etc.... Boise has lack luster facilities
as well and no one follows them in Texas. BYU has a BIG following everywhere
they play and they have first rate facilities. Big difference.
PatriotPlease educate yourself.Bsu has added 53 million
in recent improvements. Sky Boxes, Indoor practice facility. Within 24 months,
108 million on Coaches, training, Locker complex and 23000 seats, bringing total
to 55000. Construction in 3 phases, starting as soon as season ends.Crappy
baseball? Nice one! BSU doesn't have baseball.Perhaps you are also unaware
they are the PAC12 wrestling champs 3 of last 4 years? Also unaware Women sports
have competed in Nat Finals in Golf, Tennis, Volleyball? Guess not.TV?
Guess you didn't know BSU's ESPN draw is tops in the nation. The VT game was 2nd
ONLY to the Nat Champ Game.
