6th in the Pac lets automatically give the Utes the National Championship
trophy!!!!Cause they must have truly ment that being voted 6th in the Pac means
that your really number 1 team not only in the Pac but in the world. Cause
everyone knows that 2 good seasons out of your history is amazzzzzzzzzing.
Apparently the Pac 10.2 doesn't respect the little sister that was just born.
A little surprising. I think it will take a year or two in the BCS leagues to
shed the "non-AQ" perception. I see Utah competing for #2
as I think the Stanford coaching change will be a kink in their system. With the constant disarray of USC's program I also dont see them being better
than Utah. Not a chance this team ends the season 6th. We'll be top
3. Oregon is clearly the best, but we're top 3 any day of the week.
@ Utehaterforlife | 4:41 p.m. Aug. 29, 2011 Syracuse, UTThe
Utes will do fine since Blechen is still playing. They will miss Burton though
since he is in the NFL.
Dang, the Utes have been picked 6th, the seasons over... I wish there was some
way that Utah could prove to these folks that maybe they are a decent team. I
mean its too bad that they can't engage in some sort of competition, like maybe
a football competition of some sort where they could actually see who is better,
objectively by keeping score or whatnot. Oh well I guess we will just have to
WAIT FOR THEM TO PLAY THE GAMES!
Sixth is where the Cougars would finish in the Big 12.They can't
fathom that, because they beat Oklahoma by knocking out their quarterback, and
have a chance to take Texas on another down year. They think they'd be
regularly representing the Big 12 in BCS play.
Middle of the Pac-12 sounds about right. That means it's highly unlikely they
will finish the season ranked in the top 25. Let's just hope they don't
embarrass themselves against Montana State!
In the immortal words of Bart Scott: Can't Wait!
Moderate"Sixth is where the Cougars would finish in the Big
12."Really? On an article about Utah's projected PAC 12 finish,
your very first thought was guessing where the Cougars would finish in a
conference they're not even in? Nothing screams little brother like a fan so
totally obsessed with his rival.Middle of the PAC is where most
logical fans expected Utah to finish. ESPN's 6th place projection may be a
little generous; 7th is more likely, as long as Wynn stays healthy for most of
the season. If Jordan goes down, the Utes will be battling Washington State and
Colorado for cellar dweller dishonors.
6th or 7th is about right.
6th is a fair ranking, but I'd be shocked if Utah doesn't do better than that
considering they don't have to play the 2 best teams and they have AZ St at
home. I would have picked them 3rd or 4th and I think they have a real shot at a
pac 12 championship game. 3 more days until the season opener!
Hey phoenix. Just so you know, the first two comment on this article were from
Utah haters/BYU fans. Talk about obsession. And by the way Moderate, no use in
making that argument. The Cougars were left in the dust when it came to invites
to BCS conferences. It's sad really.
as a Utah fan I think that is about right until we prove otherwise
Utah should be 4 Arizona state has not proven anything and Washington just lost
hahaha....when was the last time these pre-season rankings turned out
correctly?Did any pre-season predict the mighty Utes would end up
being the first BCS buster and won the 2004 Fiesta Bowl?Did any
pre-season ranking experts predict the powerful Utes would end up beating the
national power Alabama in 2008 Sugar Bowl--in addition to other wins over
top-10, and top-20 in that year?Go Utes!!! Prove them wrong!
6th? Um, more like 12th. are you kidding me.
it is just me or does it seem as though most of the headlines regarding the utes
are of them loosing? look forward to seeing it come true for football as well.
hahahaha I can't wait.
re: Scots | 6:36 p.m. Aug. 29, 2011 Agreed.I still say 8
Wins for the U and 3rd in the South behind UAz & USC. I can't understand all
the love for UCLA & Az St.It'll take a few yrs for CU to purge
themselves of the Dan Hawkins era.Isn't it funny Hawkins left Boise
& spurned the U for the Buffs. The Utes then named some guy named Urban
Meyer as HC.
nunya, obsessed much you are. Was a Ute fan mean to you and now you have to try
to get even. Has to be some reason as it isn't normal to post what you post.
In regards to 6th place finish estimate, that seems fair given Oregon and
Stanford are the obvious one and two. USC given their talent seems fair at
three. The only room for debate is 4 through 7 with Wazzu and Colorado the
obvious bottom feeders at the moment; surprised to see OSU listed so low.
6th in Pac12 = Poinsettia Bowl!Question: What bowl game did Utah
play in 2009 after finishing 3rd in MWC? Answer: Poinsettia Bowl! Question: If Utah finishes 6th in Pac12, what bowl game will they play
in? Answer: Poinsettia Bowl! Some things never change...
@Moderate"Sixth is where the Cougars would finish in the Big

BYU will get an invitation. That's very kind of you.#6 for Utes in
Pac 10.2 is pretty much a guaranteed ticket to Las Vegas as several of us have
been saying for several months. It would be great wouldn't it?"Thank you very much." -- Elvis

6th is about right. We've been hearing so much propoganda about the local
college teams that reality has long since left us behind. The Utes simply don't
have the players at the skill positions to win big in the new league. But they have definitely proven me wrong before--like 2008. Maybe they get a
lucky call or a spectacular play and move up to 4th. That would be a great
Coug_Indy,Don't you think they ought to actually play the games
first before we declare which bowl everyone's going to? The only
team that's really a lock for a bowl whether they go 6-6 or 12-0 is BYU in the
Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl... every year for the foreseeable future... so
I guess you're right some things never change.
Sounds about right ... Especially if ESPN marked it down!
Re: u90It's too bad that you're completely wrong. BYU is only
contracted for the Bell Helicopter bowl for this year.I'm not sure
utah will even be in a bowl this year. It'll be close.
I see a lot of unhappy, obsessed, jealous Ute haters from our little midmajor
sisters down south posting on all the Utah articles. I know the BCS conferences
left your has-been program in the dust but come on, show a little class and
respect! This will be a great season for the Utes playing a schedule
against 10 BCS teams and only having two midmajor breathers. Hopefully the Utes
can avoid the injury bug and get to the PAC-12 championship game.Go
Frankly that prediction is a little bit to generous. They will finish in the
Wow, credibility is simply oozing from so many posters on here. I'm glad there
are so many qualified people giving their opinions. Great! Go Utes, can't wait
for an exciting season!
re: mm4everYour alias is a dig at BYU, and you call us obsessed ?
@JordanLet me guess, "credibility" means predicting the
utes will win the south or at minimum be in the top 4 of the league? Any
prediction that utah will be anything less than that lacks
Moderate:"They think they'd be regularly representing the Big
12 in BCS play."Do ya think? Because I've always had our
frantic and emotional little sisters as believing they'd be regularly
representing the WAC in the National Championship.
Wow,who would have thought that BYU fans would use their unbiased opinions to
"predict" that Utah will be at the bottom of the Pac-12? I definitely
didn't see it coming, and am very offended, because i personally believe the
all-mighty cougs will win the National Championship for the next 3 years.
I think the ranking from ESPN is about right. That puts us third in the South
Division behind USC and AZ St. Both those teams have the talent to beat us and
we play USC early enough it could be tough for our offense to score on them.
Still, with an upset of AZ St. later in the season, we could be in the PAC 12
Championship game. Most experts are giving us a chance of doing that,
especially with some of the injuries to key players for AZ St. Of
course we won't know for sure until we play the games, but being conservative
and realistic. I've got us finishing 9-3 losing to USC, Pitt, and either AZ St.
or Washington. I'm also incredibly excited to stop speculating and see some
action on the field. Go Utes!!
Jordan Loverige is easily the best recruit so far for Coach K. and the future of
the Utes basketball program. It will be tough for a couple of years, but after
the last two seasons things can't get too much worse. I like what Coach K. is
doing. He has brought in some players from the JC ranks and transfers that will
give play the way he wants and will give the team a fighting chance this season.
Now he is recruiting the right mix of local players and others to build the
team in the future. We just have to be patient for a few seasons and then we'll
start seeing the results. I'm excited for basketball this November for the
first time in a couple of years.
6th? At least that's good enough for the NM bowl.
Alta,You are correct. I misquoted. The BYU bowl affiliations are
as follows:2011 Bell Helicopter2012 Poinsettia2013 Kraft Fight
HungerWhich is actually kind of funny given your fellow cougar fans
are mocking Utah's past and potentially future appearances in the Poinsettia
bowl.Anyway, thanks for setting me straight
re: AltaHawkFan | 9:09 p.m. Aug. 29, 2011 Again, whats with the love
for Az St & UCLA?South projected finish... USC, UAz, UU, AZ St,
UCLA, CUNorth Projected finish... Oregon, Stanford, Or St, UW, Cal, Wa
StOverall order... Ducks (BCS game again?), Cardinal, USC, UAz, UU, Ore
St, Az St, UW, Cal, UCLA, WA St, & CU.
re: u90At least BYU has an out clause in their bowl contracts that
allows them to go to a BCS bowl if qualified and doesn't have to share any of
the bowl proceeds. BYU fans mock because ute fans are all sure you'll play in
the rose bowl every year.re: Wally WestHonestly, I just
think UCLA will be much improved this year. They have 17 returning starters
including all of their WR's, top 2 RB's (a 1200 yd guy), and top 2 QB's. The
coaching staff knows they're on the hot seat and I just expect a much better
year for them.AZ St. has 15 returning starters with their top 4
RB's, all but 1 WR, and a very talented QB. They also return almost their
entire defense. I just expect both teams to have better (bowl worthy) years. As for utah, I just don't see wynn making it unscathed throughout the
season. The schedule and defenses you'll face will be too tough. If/when you
have to turn to a backup QB, your season will essentially be over. I don't know
how your coaching staff let your QB and RB cupboards get so empty.
ESPN's Top 25 PAC 12 Players Stan: 6 Ore: 4 USC: 4 Wash: 3 Ariz: 2 WSU: 2 ASU: 1 Cal: 1 Colo: 1 UCLA: 1 OSU, Utah: 0
@SportsFanOh no! That must mean teams like UCLA, Cal, WSU, and Colorado
are all better than Utah. Because we all know one player makes the whole team.
I really get tired of all the talk about Wynn being injury prone. He has had
one serious injury. Brian Johnson had a serious injury that required surgery
and prolonged recovery, but came back to lead the Utes to an undefeated season
and a Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama. I'm looking forward to seeing him reach
his full potential under the guidance of Norm Chow and Brian Johnson.
