A novelist who writes historical fiction based on scripture has to write
exceptionally well for me to be enticed to read it.The apparent
premise of this novel (a daughter of Helaman having interest in armies and
warfare) is too much of a stretch for me.
My girls are 12 and 14 and can't wait to read this one! I too will read it when
they are finished. Sounds great to us! Thank you!
I have read Daughter of Helaman 3 times and I love it. I will probably read it
again when the next book comes out. I continue to read the Book of Mormon daily
and this book has given me greater insight into the Book of Mormon. It helps me
think of the people in a more personal way. Thank you Ms. Moncur
I guess I was a little worried about the idea of a girl in the army of Helaman
before I read the book. But the way it is written into the book, it's not your
typical girl-power story. It's more about learning to listen to the spirit and
building your faith and trusting the inspiration that comes, even if you don't
understand why the answers come as they do. The idea that Heavenly Father can
strengthen His daughters as well as His sons interests me, because I have felt
Him strengthen me in my life. As a mother of all girls I will encourage them to
read this book - not because I want them to be like the boys, but because I want
them to have the faith that the Stripling Warriors had and the knowledge that
God helps ALL his children, sons OR daughters.
