I'm sure some will use this as justification for hating all religion or
mainstream LDS. I read through the other article discussing how
other FLDS rebelled against JEffs long ago. I met some adult FLDS female
missionaries from before the Jeffs era. They were bold (like JW bold),
independent, and were thinking just as freely as many of today's misinformed
college students. One of them said she chose not to be a polygamist
but believed in it as a principle and supported teh FLDS, the other said she
WANTED to be a polygamist. I don't believe we have a right to arrest her for
that, but I don't think we should show our support by legally condoning polygamy
etc through marriage. The idea that all polygamist women were
oppressed, blind fanatics is prejudice. Polygamist women were some
of Americas first female Doctors, Lawyers, voters, etc. Things weren't always as
they are now. Associating this with mainstream LDS or religion in
general is bigotry, and doesn't help foster understanding between people. Most
true LDS support prop 08 and other constitutions which discourage polygamy,
child marriages (one WOMAN one man), and other harmful marriages.
Being from Southern Utah, and seeing many of FLDS followers, most of them are
carrying I phones. They are smarter than Warren Jeffs thinks they are.
Great new pic Jeffs. LOL@SnowCanyonDad, if the FLDS followers are
smarter than Jeffs thinks they are, why are they still FLDS followers?
No wonder Jeffs had to use coercion on those young girls. He is so butt ugly in
that new ID photo, it is clear that no free woman would have anything to do with
At some point the Holy Ghost will reveal the truth to these people and they will
reluctantly elect a new prophet. Then their life will go on - perhaps
without the child marriage feature.
I have found that ones faith is based on what one chooses to believe. People
complain about the mistakes of our past but fail to look at the mistakes of
their churches past. What everyone needs to do is stop looking at
past mistake of church leaders, all faiths, and look at what they are doing
today. Some of you are upset over our support of Prop 8, and felt we
should support same sex agenda, what you are asking us to do is go agent the
will of God. I would ask everyone would you go agents the will of God and if so
how do you think he would fell about you disobeying his laws. How would you
feel if your children did not do what you wonted because they decided you were
wrong? Would you not discipline them? Would you change your family values and
rules just because your child said you are out dated and old fashioned? We don't dislike same sex couples; we wish to follow the laws of God, as we
understand it, and choose not to ignore his laws. Just like all the other
faiths that supported Prop 8.
All the years living in Utah. All his followers 'marrying' children. All the
other polygamous groups that are as bad.Why aren't prosecutions a
normal part of law enforcement?Don't the girls matter in Utah?
You hit it on the head, Dectol: Actions define exactly what politicians and
church leaders think of "Fundies".Do you see any state or
church-wide assistance programs for young mothers who wish to escape? How many
safe houses or programs to help escapees reintegrate are there? I've surfed the
net, surveyed family, called local ward houses. The responses shockingly range
from apathy to annoyance to anger. "It's not our problem, they've chosen
apostacy, they deserve the consequences of false doctrine, they'll drain our
state or church resources, the church is here for all who want to
join..."I first heard the shocking moniker, Fundies, used in a
derisive way in St. George while visiting family. Standing in a check-out line,
I had asked a local what he thought of all the fundamentalist families shopping
in the local Wal-Mart. He sneered at them and said you could tell a 'fundie
family a mile away'. He went on to sneer at their "wierd hair and
clothes". I asked how long he'd lived there and if he'd ever spoken to any
families. All his life, never had and never would speak to any apostates. What would Jesus do?
