None of us care about Boylen. Allow us to forget about the mess he brought to
our program. Time heals all wounds but DN won't let anyone forget.
I disagree with KamUte. I liked Boylen as a guy. I want him to land on his
feet and have a successful career. He wasn't the right guy for the job here.
Since he no longer is affiliated with the University, we should not hear about
him. Maybe you continue the "where are they now" stories for
successful ex-coaches and players, but I don't think DNews should do that with a
coach we couldn't wait to get rid of.Why is DNews not beginning
football previews for Utah and BYU by schedule and position? The season isn't
that far away and we get Boylen links????? Head scratcher. The major
paper in AZ has been previewing the Arizona schools by position for weeks.
I disagree with Chris Bryant
What happened to Boylen's sure thing with the Lakers?Chow's no
dummy, he's cashing in on the Utes' dollar. $275k for an assistant? And throw
in the buyout money. And the fact that the Utes kept their old offensive
coordinator on the staff. Sounds like any future increase in revenue went to
the coaching staff of the football team!
I agree to an extent with the rest of you. I get tired of the endless updates
on what Urban Meyer is doing. He last coached seven years ago. For Jim Boylen,
its just to let us know that he is getting closer to having a job. Once he
actually signs a deal and gets going, we probably won't hear much about him.
Hey hedge, troll much?
hahahaha ... UCLA would rather pay chow to coach for utah than to have him on
staff for them. Ouch, that's going to leave a mark.
$500,000 buyout?Wow, UCLA must have really wanted to get rid of
Chow. After going 7-6 and 4-8 at UCLA, and a passing offense that ranked
116th in the Nation last season. I cant imagine Chow had many job offers.
Luckily Utah is there to pick up the scraps. Some things
@ JEFFEWow, I'm amazed that they have internet in Cedar City.
Thanks for your comments, but we'll wait and judge Chow after he's had a few
years in our system. His resume speaks for itself. Now, go on out and finish
your chores before Pa gets home from Town.
"Thretton Palamo. Will be playing football so this is moot. But hes a guy
who is big enough to play inside, and shifty enough and explosive enough to play
outside. But it wont be the Eagles who find this out, it will be the Utah Utes
football team."Really? If that Red / White game from Spring was
any indication of future results I'm guessing maybe 65 yds for the season... if
he plays.@ Jeffe... funny! LOL@ DevilishUtsie... and
yet there will be 100 comments on the Reno Mahe story bashing BYU, the sports
program, the church, etc.
$500k well spent. Good luck Norm helping the Utes.
Boylen was "The Perfect" fit for utah!
BluCoug...Boylen was "The Perfect" fit for utah! ...Boylen was as "Perfect" fit as Roger Reid was to Cougars.
After next season how much will the Utes have to pay to get rid of him because
they will be one of the worst offensive teams in the nation? If he
couldn't do it with the Titans, and UCLA what makes U think he can be successful
in the "mighty" pac 10?Have fun being the doormat next to
I'm going to laugh at all you haters when Kyle Whittingham and Norm Chow end up
being one of the most deadly combination of coaches in the nation.K,
now let's hear you people twist my words.
I love living at bigmommas house. I get to chill with my 40 and watch the
trainwreck unfold as the U gets put into its rightful place along side the likes
of Washington St., and Colorado. Its going to happen...and it will be
sweet to watch
sammygReally? If that Red / White game from Spring was any
indication of future results I'm guessing maybe 65 yds for the season... if he
plays. He will play. But if he is playing 3rd string, he might not
get many yards on the year. If Palamo went to any other school in Utah, he'd
probably be the starter. A player with a combination of his power and speed is
neigh unstoppable. JeffyWow, UCLA must have really wanted to
get rid of Chow. UCLA didn't want to get rid of him, just coach
Neuheisel. If Norm is such a bad coach, then why was BYU such a winning team
with him as a coach for close to 30 years with him running the offense?
@ Classless Ute FanI agree with your post about Palamo, he is bruiser, he
can be used like Asiata.
RE: BigmommasIf the Utes are Washington State's doormat, BYU can't brag
about their "strong" schedule. How is BYU going to convince AP voters
to hand them a national championship with a doormat schedule? They don't give
votes out of pity. The Y depends on the U to have a terrific year.
re: utahute16We won't twist your words. We'll bookmark them so that
you can eat them later when you're calling for chow's firing.re:
classlessIf palamo is so unstoppable, why would he be 3rd string on
a team that has no returning runningbacks with D1 experience? He'll be
non-factor this year.
Classless Ute Fan"If Norm is such a bad coach, then why was BYU
such a winning team with him as a coach for close to 30 years with him running
the offense?"The jury is still out on how much Norm still has
left in the tank. He may do well at Utah, but don't forget, when Chow was in his
heyday at BYU, he had QB's like Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Robbie
Bosco, and Ty Detmer. Jordan Wynn would have been lucky to be a backup on the
practice squad on any of those teams.
re: Classless Ute Fan "UCLA didn't want to get rid of him, just
coach Neuheisel. If Norm is such a bad coach, then why was BYU such a winning
team with him as a coach for close to 30 years with him running the
offense?"Norm Chow was a great coach for BYU, but the last time
he coached a game at BYU, he was on the losing end of a 59-0 beatdown, that,
believe it or not, could have been even worse. That game might have
had something to do with why UCLA was willing to pay Norm $500,000 NOT to coach
I just want everyone to know that we cougar fans are NOT Holier than thou,
delusional, or obsessed with the Utes!
ChickenhunterIt's nice to see a Utah fan who supports his big
brothers.Good luck in the PAC 12.
@chickenhunterGood for U.This is a rivalry. Its all
banter. No football, no basketball, its just to pass time until we get to see
the trainwreck unfold up on the hill.
I think Chow was a great signing, but he scares me a little bit, he didn't have
much success at UCLA and he just got rid of the most successful offensive scheme
the Utes have ever had. Hopefully his ideas will work like they did at BYU.
Hey Chicken Hunter- Sometimes I think you cougars are a little delusional, what
with your annual pre-season National Championship talk. You fans have got the
whole team and coaching staff indoctrinated now. Reality is going to come fast
and rough in September.
Chickenhunter is obviously a troll. Don't bite.
AltaHawkFan***If Palamo is so unstoppable, why would he be 3rd
string on a team that has no returning running backs with D1 experience? He'll
be non-factor this year.***Answer: John White and Harvey Langi.
There are 2 good reasons that he MIGHT not start. I'm pretty sure that the depth
chart is not finalized. So, if Thretton has a better fall camp than one of the
other 2, then he might be in the 2 player rotation. If not, then he won't see as
much playing time this year.
I gotta give norm credit. He got the opportunity to stick it to two schools at
the same time and he took it. Well done norman!
Boylen landed with the Indiana Pacers. I wish him good luck. He is a great man.
Norm Chow has lost some of his recent offensive prowess at UCLA. was that
because of the lack of quality QB talent? I thought Chow coached Philip Rivers
at NC State? and Carson Palmer etc at USC?
Re: utahute16You posted - I'm going to laugh at all you haters when
Kyle Whittingham and Norm Chow end up being one of the most deadly combination
of coaches in the nation.K, now let's hear you people twist my
words. How about - uou fan state the move to the PAC 10.2, with Kyle
and Norm, will kill their football program. No seriously, Norm should
have received his contractual buyout from Ucla plus an additional 100% for
unusual and cruel punishment. Working with Rick Neuheisel had to be a challenge
and the low point of his career. The problems at Ucla had nothing to do with
Norm. Tip of the hat to the u for hiring Norm and allowing him to finish his
career on a positive note. Prediction for 2011 the u loses to the Y by 10
points but wins the South PAC 10-2. Ducks win the championship game by 3
points. Not a bad start for the TUN.
Where are all of the U of U articles, we want some coverage of our utes! C'mon
