    Myabe Whit should talk to this kid, he thinks Norm Chow is the offensive guru and the head coach. Might change his mind when he finds the truth.

    You mean that the kid who committed months ago likes his choice?
    Astonishing.

    On the other hand it beats giving the roundup the headline "Utah has eleventh best recievers in a twelve team conference"

    That would have been both hilarious and accurate but we wouldnt want the crimson colored blindfolds...er...glasses to break before play starts right? And you guys think Harmon is a homer....

    Personally, I believe the coaches are a better judge of players than scout or rivals ratings, but for the characters who are always touting stars and trying to stay relevant despite their WAC schedule and legacy of slow, white defensive backs and receivers, this kids has 3 stars on each publication.

    Utah - predictably - is getting its best recruit year ever. Top notch athletes see Utah as a great place to play and go to school. Away from the fast LA life yet still part of the pac 12 conference. I think the U is going to attract alot of kids - especially parents - who want their kids in a safer and more wholesome environment compared to LA or Seattle or even Tempe. Salt Lake is much better than any of the above.

    For all of the people who can't read good and need to go to the center for kids who can't read good, you need to realize that the writer reported inaccurately with Norm Chow as the head coach, not the student athlete. Good job guys. High fives all around.

    Being on TV does not equal national relevance.

    Winning football games, getting to BCS bowls, and winning BCS bowls, makes you relevant to college football fans across the country.

    Walk outside a wardhouse anywhere outside of Utah, and college football fans think The Jimmer is a BYU football player! That's what they know about BYU football.

    --Quote from Bitterman.

    Accurate? You do realize this is an article projecting Utah's recieving corp---not actual statistics from a season that's yet to be played? Intersting this article profiled the "have-nots" and there was no mention of WSU. Yes, Harmon is a homer, Dirk is a homer, and *surprise* the Moscow-Pullman paper has homers. I'm guessing you can't see it this way.

    I have no problem with Utah's receiving corp being ranked 11th. Given that there is 1 returning receiver with significant experience, I think that is fair. That being said, I think there is a ton of receiving talent from DVC to Reggie Dunn, add RS freshmen Kenneth Scott and Dre Anderson, not to mention Dexter Ransom and Anthony Denham. Hopefully Wynn's healthy enough, and the guys can work together enough to get the timing down, because the talent appears to be there on paper.

    I guess Utah never planned on winning each game. Maybe it was just pure dumb luck that they did it. The coaches must be clueless as to how they achieved it. Oh, I forgot, it was the Mighty MUSS that won every single game and not the players. It takes guts to publish your ideal, even if you did not succeed.

    I can't wait till Sept and we don't hear from ute fan for about a week,(after cougars destroy them). Then we can pick it back up a week later and hear how great the pac 12 really is, and how Utah is the premere team in the state or wait till basketball season starts, thats always a good one.

    Grade = 78
    National Ranking = 36

    Tanner Mangum
    Star Rating = 3
    Grade = 75
    National Ranking = 75

    Who's laughing now? Seems like there is a bigger gap between the two recruits on ESPN. I thought ESPN loved Yners.....

    Who is BYU? I can't seem to remember who they are...I'm too busy getting to know such teams as USC, Oregon, Arizona, UCLA and so on. Can't wait for the season to start. First season in the Pac 12 may be a little rough, but as time goes by, players develop and we get our new offense down, things will be awesome! Can you imagine Utah playing Oregon or Stanford at Rice-Eccles for the Conference Championship game? The possibilities are endless. It is, a GREAT time to be a Ute!!

  • Chiro Portland, OR
    June 23, 2011 4:13 p.m.

    Rivals has not updated their website for over a month now. ESPN updated their site one week ago,post Elite camp which included both Wilson and Mangum, and currently Wilson is the number 36 QB in the country and Mangum is the 72 QB.

    Playing football in California is a better competition than Idaho, Wilson is the better QB at 6'6" 220lbs. When they competed against each other at the camp Wilson drew high praise.

    Go Utah

    PS your beloved Heaps took you to a 7-6 record, ha ha

  • Mormon Ute Kaysville, UT

    You didn't read the article on the Wilson kid did you? Here's a quote, "Before he hits the field with his teammates in San Clementes first home game of the season against Cabrillo of Long Beach on September 2, Wilson is scheduled to showcase his skills at the Elite 11 Camp at the University of Pepperdine at the end of July. The camp features the top 11 quarterbacks in the nation working through passing drills and their mechanics." So yes, Utah's recruit is a top 11 QB.

    Really? Without Jimmer, where is the y going to be? Back to the "one and done" years in the NCAA? Still the only team with as many tourney appearances and NO final four appearance? Back to the miserable losing record in the tourney? Face it, there is only ONE team in Utah that has a rich NCAA tourney history, and it aint the y. Wait til next year - when you can play the Pilots and the Dons and the Gaels and the Toreros, you know, all the major teams! Wait til basketball season when you can play ball in Jr. High School gyms!

    Let's just assume that Tavis Wilson is actually committed to Utah. The bottom line is that he's too tall, lanky, cumbersome, and slow to run a Norm Chow West Coast Offense, and the Ute's defense will have to bail him out time and time again over the next couple of years. The good side of this is that Utah landed a guy by the name of Chase Hansen- who has the athleticism to run the Utes offense. I guess Travis can fill if Chase is on a mission.

    Strengths: Size

    Areas for Improvement: Arm Strength, Accuracy/Consistency, Release

    Basically, he's a big guy who can't throw. You Ute fans are right, this is a step up for you...most of your QB's are SMALL guys who can't throw :)

    By the way, before the Elite 11 camp he was ranked the 16th QB by Scouts.com...he's now 32.

    "...It takes guts to publish your ideal, even if you did not succeed...".

    No one, in Utah or any red state, for that matter, gives President Obama "props" for "guts", for publishing less tham 8% unempolyment and than failing to succeed. In fact, they use that information to mock him.

    @5:18

    "too tall, lanky, cumbersome, and slow to run a Norm Chow West Coast Conference...".

    Norm Chow was the OC for:

    Matt Leinart 6'5" 2006 1st round 10th pick.

    Phillip Rivers 6'5" 2004 1st round 4th pick.

    Carson Palmer 6'5" 2003 1st round 1st pick.

    Just read something interesting.
    OL carreer starts returning
    BYU 10th 107
    Utah 65th 63
    Most important unit other than quarterback(and those touting the elite 11 apparence of wilson, our quarterback not only went but was mvp so if you say your boy is impressive what do you say about heaps.)

    Percent of offensive yards returning
    BYU 7th. 94.44
    Utah 90th 48.92

    Thats great for you guys that you won last year but this year is different. You won by 1 point at your own stadium to one of the youngest teams in the country (phil steele ranked them 111th last year). Who knows, you could win again this year but if you look at who is returning for both teams you got to like the cougars or your just being silly.

    Amen to that, brother. September cannot come fast enough!

    "I have had a LOT of practice dealing with my y loving family. I don't say anything here that I don't say to my own family .. yes, even my MOM."

    Haha, I like it...does your mom dish out the smack talk, too? Gotta love it, man...it's what makes this rivalry so great!

    Go Cougs!

    Hmmm.... How can any BYU fan claim that Utah is or will be irrelevant? A team that has won two BCS bowls, posted two undefeated seasons in the last seven years, a #2 ranking, and an invite to a BCS conference.

    If any of you Cougs and tell me how many of those you have had in the last quarter of a century, I would be more than happy to hear it. Oh wait, that would be impossible! LOL.

    Unless BYU fans are psychic (which some are positive they are) don't try to predict Utah's future in an actual BCS conference, it makes you look stupid.

    @SouthernUtahUte "Hmmm.... How can any BYU fan claim that Utah is or will be irrelevant? A team that has won two BCS bowls, posted two undefeated seasons in the last seven years, a #2 ranking, and an invite to a BCS conference."

    And yet, for some reason, with all this "success" the U has had, they have now become so relevant that their biggest PAC 12 game in the upcoming season(against USC) is being shown on Versus (woohoo, it's like being in the MWC all over again :) and their only game on ESPN is being shown when they play (gasp) BYU?

    How did that happen?

    (sigh) Poor Utah...they finally get invited to the "big boy" table and yet find themselves stuck in the high chair. Ah well, there's always basketball, right? Oh...never mind :)

    Go Cougars!

    @ truecoug1

    And with all the success the U has had, we will still be getting a bigger pay out every year than you will every three or four combined. (Granted we won't get the full pay out for a few years, bummer). Better recruits, better facilities, the possibility of a conference championship game in Salt Lake, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford coming to town. Tell me, what does independence offer that even comes close to this? OH, your games will be on KBYU. I tend to forget things that don't matter.

    Face it, BYU in the modern era has not even come close to what Utah has done in football. There is no denying it. Independence was a second choice after you didn't get an invite to any major conference. But why would that happen? I thought your '84 championship got you enough respect to carry you through anything? Oh right, it wasn't in this century.

    Yeah, Utah's basketball program is in a very bad slump and every Utah fan knows it. Just remember don't kick someone when they are down, because you'll never know what they will be like when they get up.

    GO UTES!!!!

    @SouthernUtahUte

    Ah the classic Ute fallback, the whole "we get more money than you" drop. True, in 3 years you will be making more money than BYU...unfortunately, money doesn't buy recruits. Oh wait, I guess in this day and age it might. You have a point, when Utah finally gets paid in full you'll be able to afford the kind of athletes that Oregon, USC, Ohio St, etc. have been buying :) Power to ya, man.

    Seriously, though, BYU doesn't need the money. We already have state-of-the-art facilities, including a world class indoor facility, top notch weight rooms, the best broadcasting building in the country and our own HD truck...all without being a part of a PAC 12 contract. I'm happy for Utah, though...when they become full fledged members of the PAC 12, they can finally start catching up to their big brothers down south!

    "Tell me, what does independence offer that even comes close to this?"

    Two words: 'ESPN' and 'exposure'. Utah's 2 wonderful BCS wins have earned them 1 game on ESPN this year. BYU, by contrast, is on 7 games and even Colorado is on 2. Oh the irony! :)

    @trucoug1

    "True, in 3 years you will be making more money than BYU..."

    Actually that is not a given at all. BYU already out did utah in revenue by around 50%, or about 15 million per year. Even if the most optimistic of projections occur and utah increases their revenue by 30 million it will probably at best allow them to catch up to BYU, or else be slightly ahead or slightly behind.

    BYU's revenue is also increasing and although the numbers haven't been confirmed they should be making 10+ mil on theit football tv deal and a million or so on their basketball deal. Plus they are getting game payouts for the games they are playing around the country and they are currently exploring options to generate revenue from BYUtv broadcasts. It isn't stretching it to guess their revenue is increasing by 10-15 mil per year.

    At best this is now simply catching up for utah and they are way behind in facilities so they have alot more they need to spend than BYU does.

    @kankles

    Here is my exact statement.

    "I seldom comment on recruits for either school"

    Seldom means "not often, infrequently or rarely". It does not mean "at no time, not in any degree or not under any condition" as that is the definition of 'never'.

    Of course that overlooks the fact I did not comment about any recruit in my post.

    LOL!

    We Ute fans will stop mentioning the whole making more money than the Y thing as soon as Cougar fans stop bringing up their precious ESPN appearances every other post. Deal? I didn't think so.

    " Obviously Dale Murphy's son saw that he had no chance so he transferred to a school that has no real competition for his position because they've never had good players at that position.

    And the 380 pound fatty is a walkon for a reason, no one wanted to give him a scholarship. He even waited a few extra weeks to see if one would emerge and it never happened so he settled on the place that would let him walk on.

    And the other guy from some school no one has ever heard of in Pennsylvania is a transfer that once again seemed to wait around for better offers and didn't get any so a month after the fact he took one from Utah.
    When you said that you had a parent that was a BYU professor, and that you had taken college classes at UVU why is it no one taught you to spell or capitalize ?
    These quotes are just one of 13 I have saved of yours so that when the season starts you can eat your words. Obsessive ? Just to the point of proof that you just run on emotion and blue blooded blindness.

Murphy left because he couldn't handle the competition, do you think you are going to somehow prove otherwise? And the others, well what are you going to prove there? I am in your head.
