Well, you've staged quite a brilliant defense for dear Glenn. And with such
spunk and attitude. Nicely done. Now, if only Mr. Beck were more moderate. Sigh.
But, I guess conspiracies can't really be moderate, can they?
This story is spinning so fast it may go flying right off my computer screen at
Can we all say TMI (to much information). I do not listen to Beck much any
more, not because he is bad, but because he is a 3hr Commerical. The
Glenn Beck Show has become a Commerical Having a Radio and TV Show at the same
time is very often to much. I hope he gets to spend a little more
time with his family. It is more that Beck Fired Fox then Fox Fierd Beck.Maybe he just wanted to stop. Have you ever Quit a job on good terms,
just because you did not want to do it anymore. He has enough money
he could stop right now and do nothing else ever, and his kids could be near do
well and his grand kids also, way way into the future.WE do not want
Beck to wind up doing a Dr. Laura.
With or without Beck on Fox the World Still turns. Yes the Sky is ealling in,
but there is Not Much You Can Do About It.
Jason Wright is absolutely correct. The Mainstream Media would like nothing
better than to see Glenn Beck fail. They try to disparage his routing out the
Marxists in the Obama administraiton, by calling him a prevaricator. But anyone
who has watched his show knows he uses their own words - which are embarassing
to them to be found out.
"Why Fox fired Glenn Beck" headline is hardly indicative of what the
story actually says.Is this merely a lazy headline writer, or poor
choice of words, or is it confirmation of the very points the story makes that
the media distorts Beck and is out to get him?Enquiring minds want
to know? And, I am not even a fan of Beck's!
The first question that comes to mind is whether Jason Wright is as far off the
true story as the other news sources he talks about. Maybe he is not as
relevent anymore as he once was. The fact that his numbers beat other non
relevent shows does not make him a winner. I do not hear co workers talk about
him anymore like I used to. Just like the flags that everyone flew after 9-11,
they are either old and faded or not there anymore.
I love Glenn Beck's show a lot, and very much admire his creativity also. Hope
he will be successful in the new era.
So let me understand this.... in effect you are saying that he is like the
hottest quarterback in football, and that every time he has the ball, his team
scores. But despite this, he is soon to be a "free agent" and his
team has decided to pre-announce that they will not be resigning their star
player.... just because he is just too good. Now maybe the media is a
bit different. Maybe too good of ratings is a bad thing. Perhaps, just
perhaps, Fox decided they were tired of fighting off advertisers for that time
slot, so they decided to cut lose their star property. Sort of like the Colts
cutting lose Manning because the headache of all those season ticket renewals
becoming too big of a head ache.Or could it be that Beck suffered
the same fate that a lot of other shock radio people suffered when they made the
transition to TV? This would fall into the same category as Howard Stern being
cut loose while he was at the top of his game, and despite his rating being
through the roof.Beck got let go not because he was too good.
Thanks Jason. I knew he wasn't fired, but the wrong story seems to be going
around. Unfortunately, not that many Americans will read this story.
It looks as if Jason Wright is looking to make certain he has a future with
Glenn. Why else write a pro-Beck article for the DN? Talk about preaching to
the choir, Utah is the one place where PR isn't needed for Beck.
You met with him about a potential project together and then I'm supposed to
believe this story is unbiased?
Sounds like Jason has hitched his wagon to a falling star. This article reminds
me of the kid who has been placed in the corner on a time out and is still
jumping around saying, "Look everybody! I'm still doing things!!!"
I don't think many people doubt his creativity. He's been saying imaginary
things for years.
What's laughable, is when they state that Becks's ratings have plummeted 30%.They take a snapshot spike in his ratings, during the Health
Care/Election coverage, and then create a false baseline. Like Obama
taking the average National Deficit of 2-4 hundred billion, to 1.5 trillion his
first year and then treating 1.5 trillion as the new annual deficit norm. With Beck they use his 3+ million viewers ratings spike in that one
month period, and then treat that as the norm. It's not.Hannity,
O'reilly, Grethe etc. also peaked at this time and then dropped, yet nobody is
saying that their tratings have plummeted?Reality is, Beck has
averaged about 2 million viewers for each year. Taking singular snapshots is
deceptive by design. It's why you just can't trust the MSM anynmore.Michael Jordan had some high water marks of 70 points or so. Where his 2 week
or one month average may have been 40 or 50 points. When he leveled off to his
30 points a game average, did people say his scoring has dropped by 30% or
40%?Beck still beats his competition by 4-5 fold.
Yeah...um...nope. Glenn Beck's propaganda machine crossed the
bridge from zany indignation to lunacy. Once the public understands that you're
certifiable, well, nobody really feels comfortable in your presence.
Beck is a hate monger, and his act is wearing thin. I used to be scared to
death of him - that is no longer true. I have never felt esteem for the guy
even though I share his faith.
[ ... the grind of a daily show handcuffs Beck. ]What a joke. Sorry
your eccentric boss lost his job as a fiction writer.
I loved Glenn's TV show and will miss it. He took current events, tried to
connect them, and then predict what it will mean to us in the future. He tried
to show the motivations of influencial people (good or bad) and what they
believed in, and what they are trying to accomplish. There is no other news show
that does this. He will be greatly missed on a daily basis and his fans will
search him out through other media. One of the most important themes in the
Book of Mormon is for us in the latter days to recognize and stamp out
"secret combinations" so they don't destroy us. I think Glenn Beck
has been faithful to this plea. "Well done Good and faithful
Thanks Jason for a good positive story on Beck. I am so tired of the negative
articles that are so far from the truth. Beck has talked about a transition for
a long time. It came as no surprize. He was already going in new directions.
Re: BrentBot "They try to disparage his routing out the Marxists in the
Obama administraiton..." Alas, there aren't any.
Whats really strange is these leftists writing about this article have never,
that I have seen, ever, doubted the machine that is the DNC media. Influenced
greatly by Soros and his ilk. Putting out talking points day after day, and
striving to curb or "nudge" free speech by influencing advertisers and
such.utahblue, who is the quarterback for the anti-American left? I
mean the anti-free speech left, the ones that don't like to be exposed to the
sunlight. I know that 'spooky dude' works in the front office of the team, and
maybe he is the quarterback, but be a little more curious and tell us who is
running the White House?
There is an old saying in the news world: Never let the truth stand in the way
of a good story. All the media is losing customers to other sources
of news like Fox, et al, because people are not as sheep-like as NBC, CBS, ABC,
et al would like us to be. We can see through their supremely biased reporting.
Now there are alternative sources that spell out truths that many in power
would rather we didn't know. The light of truth is almost more than they can
Glenn Beck, like all neocons, gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over.He makes me feel more American, more righteous, more ... well, more than any
liberal could ever be in this lifetime. After Beck speaks, preaches,
teaches, I feel like a huge weight's been lifted from my shoulders. I want to go
out and buy 37 more American flags and wave them all at once - especially in the
faces of those pesky liberals. My blood pressure drops, my migraines go away,
and I feel more love and brotherhood towards everyone than I have ever felt in
my life.I worship Glenn Beck. My hero, my idol, my true American guru. I
wish I could be more like Glenn Beck in everyway. Especially when I look at my
meager bank statements.
Why are we supposed to care why Beck was fired? Why is there a defensive article
as if we cared to know? Why wasn't there a similar article for Olberman been
fired?? Ok Ok I get it, lots of Beck listeners and followers, and yeah
he's LDS therefore he deserves a spot.. but come on, can you please be a little
more biased with this article? (sorry for my sarcasm)
My dad listens to Brother Beck and keeps me posted. I turn it on every now and
then as an antidote to NPR, many of whose listeners, like Beck's, think it is
the be-all and end-all.Everyone has an angle, a bias, a spin. As I
read and listen, I pay attention to my gut, which tells me that NPR is very
smart and dignified but sorely lacking innocence. As for Brother Beck, he is
smart and abounding in innocence, but oh what fearmongerer he is. I'm sure it
pays well, but my gut tells me that at least that part of his gospel is not
true.As for this column, my gut says, . . . hmm, maybe, maybe not.
May your venture with him accomplish all you hope. And as for the
Truth, my gut says Truth Will Prevail.
Beck was fired or at least not renewed at the option of Fox. He had viewers but
could not attract new advertisers and in any media an audience without revenue
means you will not be around long. Half his ads were promos for other Fox
programs to fill dead ad space and many of the other half had direct links to
him as a spokesperson. I listen(ed) everyday to his TV on XM radio and
though I lost the chalkboard visual, it was still the best hour of comedy
available on the radio for my daily commute.
When was the last time, you heard of someone being fired, who then was allowed
to stay on the job for another 7 or 8 months, and then on top of that, the
Employer, that just fired you, also signs a multi-million dollar contract with
you, to produce programming?Fire me all day long if that's the net
result, please Sir, may I have another. The wishful thinking of
Beck's demise, by his critics, is about to be re-set, and they are about to have
their World rocked, when Beck announces his new upcoming projects. He's not
going away, so buckle up lefties. And have you noticed, his critics
never challenge Beck with specificity and counter arguments? Why, because they
can't.So they continually just make broad generalized perjorative
rants, with nothing to back it up with.

...seemed a fair treatment of the issue. I've seen some of Beck's material.
Thus far I would give him a B for the research and the conclusions he draws from
it. I try not to label people based on historical definitions because there is
always baggage. You can't call someone Marxist in the academic sense without
invoking imagery that goes too far...Beck is dead on in many of his assessments,
but people tend not to see the academic use of terms and see the sensational.
Suffice it to say, there are very bad folks in DC right now, and we need to
continue to run they, and their financiers out. Beck did a good job dogging
them for who they really were. I suspect he will continue to do so.
Love how you slipped "the daily show" and "new deal" into
the same sentence.
Beck is just trying to use his talents to make a living. Everyone needs to see
this. Quit trying to believe that these radio and TV hosts truly believe every
word that they present to you. They are just trying to rile people up so that
they will tune in and listen. The more people do that, the more sponsors jump on
board to advertise, the more that happens, the more the network can pay the
host. It is about money, not what these guys believe to be the truth. It doesn't
matter if you are Beck, Henedy, or Stern it is all the same.Once the
advertisers feel that it is time to get out the host is done, plain and simple.
Religion and politics are divorce prone.
working class. you stated Beck is a hate monger and his act is wearing thin you
got my vote I agree 100%
sandyOr "truth has no agenda." Now thats profound. The left better get used to the fact that Beck, the tea party and
conservatives are getting stronger, not weaker. They want our country back from
the warmongers and the big - huge spending leftists. Including Bush.
This story reads like it was written by someone who works for Beck. Oh, wait, it
was written by someone who works for Beck! Doesn't the D-News have any degree of
journalistic integrity - the kind which would distinguish a press release from a
proper opinion piece. The interesting thing about this supposed
glimpse into the real reason why Beck's show won't be on Fox anymore (I'll be
agnostic about whether Beck walked or was pushed for the moment) is that it
doesn't mention that he lost almost half his audience (that "ratings have
slipped from the sky highs of the health care debate" isn't the same) and
that a large number of advertisers refuse to have anything to do with his show.
Even if he continues to hold a certain number of viewers, it means nothing
without advertisers. And that the average age of his viewers is "circling
the drain" makes him a truly lousy business prospect.
I used to hope to get news without spin from the lamestream media (NBC,
ABC,CBS,) but just before the 2008 election I realized all they were doing was
giving the DNC free campaign air time. Now I watch the lamestream if
they're doing maybe a cooking segment, but thats about all.I don't
even have cable (buying my own health insurance)but I am able to go online
occassionally and read Fox.I hope to be able to follow Glenn
especially during the 2012 campaign.
Thanks Jason for your comments. It really takes a lot of courage to stick up for
Glen since there are so many that just go crazy when his name is mentioned and
fill the comment page with hate. The last year on TV most of the time he talked
about God or the constitution and our founders and telling us to be kind, good
and give service. Obviously these bloggers have not watched his TV show. I don't
like things Obama does but when theres an article written about him I usually
don't comment and if I do I am respectful and just stick to the point of what I
disagree with him. I don't attack him personally.
It seems most likely that Beck was let go because his show was being boycotted
by advertisers. The advertisers were running away from Beck because the
corporations are afraid of the left leaning media. This is a war of words and
thoughts. Mr. Beck is trying to go on with his life and continue his war in a
different way. Whats so surprising about any of this. His TV show
wasn't all that influential to begin with. He was using his radio program to
reach way more people. He will continue to reach these people and the left will
continue to fight against him.The left has only one weapon when it
comes to fighting Glenn Beck, and that is fear mongering. They will demonize him
and say how hate filled he is. It is all just part of the war of words. The left
can not stand to have a different opinion out there.
Becklots of sizzle but I struggle to find the steak
One of the endearing qualitis of Beck is that he is one of the few (if not the
only) self-deprecating personalities on talk radio and punctuates with a bit of
comedy that is sometimes a bit much. I am amazed that the detractors still refer
to him as hate mongoring when what I hear is his plea for decency and resolution
through non-violent means. Would love to see a comparison of "hate"
words from different public figures. Glen can be difficult to listen to...for
the most part because of the angst brought about by his predictions. Sometimes I
just want to find a big pile of sand to immerse in.
Really Bluto, you know of no one who has been told that the rest of their
contract will be honoured but they are not being renewed on new terms? Happens
all the time in business with consulting contracts (has happened to me),
obviously happens everyday in media. And the production contract was with his
company not with Mr. Beck. They know his face on TV does not bring in revenues
on a daily show, but are willing to see if his "specials" will. Becks
profile will fall as it is owed in huge fashion to his FOX exposure. He will
continue to make money because those who choose to listen to him will follow him
as long as he makes it easy for them to do so. What is great about America (one
of the list anyway) is that a following of 2 million people can make you very
rich and Beck knows that and takes full advantage of it.
'They want our country back from the warmongers and the big - huge spending

EXACTLY did Bush join 'the Left?' When he gave tax cuts to the
wealthy? How about the Wall Street Bail out? TARP? Patriot
Act? Or when he invaded Iraq and Afghanistan? The only thing
that 'changed', was that the far extreme Right had an up close, and personal
view of what those extreme ideologies lead too. Or can you give me
ANOTHER reason why George W. Bush was elected... twice.
No, I see this as simply trying to distance your self... from the far
right's ideologies that got Bush elected. It's called 'buyers
I will miss His Royal ADD-ness. He gave me food for thought, made me DVR him
every other week, and his slap-stick was hilarious comic relief. He should do a
bi-weekly schtick with Jon Stewart and triple the Comedy Channel's ratings. He
could out-rate South Park easily if he turned to animation alone: Heck, just
having his satire in a PG-rating would entice me to that channel. What will I do with the Kleenex box that sits cautiously near the tellie...
Just in case?If Howie-GutterMouth-Stern can pull off a come-back,
who's to say that Beck can't single-handedly resurrect any one of his personas?
My suggestion: Have a different Beck character on each day. Folks can tune
into which ever flavor they want: Nutty, Serious, The Professor, The Preacher
Wanna-Be, Mormon Apologist, Zany 3 Stooges, Weepng Granny, The Baker Man...
I'll give the guy some ideas, but he's probably already had his 5 yr-old kid
story-board it.I just wanna record the day he "does his own
homework" and discovers Biblical Christianity!! The Kleenex will be
gone!was refreshing compared to
Yeah, I though it was a little dodgy, the story of how everyone just quit
listening to him all at once after he has been a leader in ratings for some
@Axel - 9:15You put Beck, Hanity, and Howard Stern in the same box?
Really? Why not add Maddow, Oberman, and Jon Stewart. For that matter lets add
in Barbara Walters, and Oprah. You say these people do not believe
what they are saying, I say you are completely wrong. These people not only
believe what they are saying, it is part of who they are. There are
people out there whose sole purpose is to shock you by what they are saying, but
Beck, Hanity, Maddow, and all the others are not part of that class.I understand that you were just trying to discredit Beck by putting him in the
same box as Howard Stern, but most people see through your little tricks.
No doubt Beck remians very popular. What concerns me is that Beck, and all sorts
of people like him, pass off entertainment as news, and a sizeable portion of
Americans are buying it. That's not to say he doesn't raise valid
points, or that there isn't truth in what he's saying. It's just that when it is
presented in such a way as to suck you in for the sake of generating revenue
from sponsors, some things are overemphisized, and the viewer comes out with a
skewed vision of reality. All news outlets are guilty of this, ever since they
discovered in about the 1950s that news broadcasts are a great way to make
money. This is what all of today's news outlets are about, from traditional
nightly network news to Fox, MSNBC, Beck, Olbermann, all of it. They just want
money, and they'll do and say almost anything to get you to tune in. It's amazing how much better the world looks when you stop watching and
listening to Beck and the rest of the 24-hour cable news networks. I wish we
could give it a try.
Was gonna say that Glenn never wore as thin as His Royal Bulliess O'Reilly, was
more appealing in his humanity and far more entertaining than any other anchor
there..But there's a conspiracy here despite all Jason's efforts to
the contrary. Me thinks me smells a Soros in the studio...

Fox's Brian Kilmeadeon pointed out that many people in Obama's administration

pressed on. "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has
a problem," Beck said. "This guy is, I believe, a racist." Um, yeah. The left MADE Glenn Beck use the 'racist'
card? I disagree.

There is nothing new in this article. No unveiling of some vicious liberal
conspiracy to get Glenn Beck or Fox News (never balanced and hardly fair, the
little motto has long been known to be a jab at other media and not a
description of Fox's actual practices.)Anyone who follows media in
the least knows that this is about falling market share for Beck, more freedom
to say whatever he can make up overnight, and then sell it to gullible,
uncritical viewers who can't get enough of him.I love when he cries
while wearing his favorite mock dictator uniform.
Once read somewhere that the truth hurts and cuts "bad people"
(softened definition for DN Moderator censor) to the quick.Glenn
Beck is one of the few commentators that actually share truths with us.
Unfortunately these truths are hurtful to those that deserve it. Mr. Beck is
not a hatemonger in anyway, shape, or form. To call someone by a name they
deserve (but try to hide, ie. Marxist) is not propogating hatred-just the
truth. This was the problem with Keith Olbermann at MSNBC (aka DNC PR
Director) who never spoke any truths whatsover, but twisted truth to fit his
vengeful hyperbole. Mr. Olbermann was the real hatemonger among media talking
heads. Hope we are never again subjected to his perpetual smirk.Glenn Beck is not going away (as noted earlier), but will continue to hang
around to torment liberals with the unvarnished truth for a longtime. If the
truth he speaks hurts, it may be time to clean-up your ideology.Israelis are fond of saying that there is real evil in the world and that
Americans in our naivete don't understand its real nature. Thank Heavens for
Beck for helping us recognize/understand evil around us.
If he was fired for his drop in ratings, how could any of the talking heads at
CNN, MSNBC, or any other liberal broadcasting outlet be keeping their jobs?
Beck's lowest ratings were 10 times better than of the liberal outlets.
If he wasn't fired by Fox, he was fired by CNN headline news the fall of 2008,
which was prime time. I would like to see Beck and Jason Wright work
as plumbers, farmers, policemen, fire fighters, nurses, engineers, teachers,
doctors or scientists---in other words, to get a real job, and that is for all
media people on the left and right---they all talk too much and work too little.
The one constant thing with Beck is he changes his tune every 18 months or so.
If you do or don't like what he is saying, just give it a year or 18 months
and he will be onto something else.
Thanks for taking the time to dispel another progressive lie, swallowed and
perpetuated by 95% of the lazy media outlets, and glommed onto by the hordes of
life's uneducated illiterates and hate-spewing syncophants of liberal
idealogues.Best wishes to Glenn Beck in his efforts to push back
against decades of indolence and deceptions spawned by public educators, network
and print news media, and conniving progressives.
KM - not really sure who you are referring to by " anti-American
left"... perhaps Hugo Chaves or some like that. But saying that some one
is 'anti-american" because they don't believe in your particular brand of
conservatism is a bit of a leap.Maybe that person is Howard Stern...
who knows. And no what, he is still on the air, just only not on a prime
network anymore because of his comments. Same goes with Mr. Beck. I do have a question for your. If most of American voted unlike you, does
that make most of America un-American? Who gets to decide what is
"true" Americanism and who isn't? Is it your belief that only
"conservatives" love this country? Moderates need not apply?Anytime anyone says another person is 100% right all the time, I get worried.
Last I checked, the last person who qualified for that label lived a little more
than 2000 years ago. So I have no idea why the fact that some see some of what
Mr. Beck has said to be over the top as somehow being unAmerican.I
guess I just don't understand purist conservatism.
Reading some of these posts it is very clear that many of these posters don't
really watch Glenn and don't really know what his positions are on just about
anything. He is NOT a conspiracy theorist. He is NOT extreme. Unfortunately, most of these posters have bought into the propoganda
that is put out by Glenn's detractors. Is he emotional in his presentation?
YES. Is he passionate about what he believes? YES. But, he is NOT extreme or
zany. One has to really listen to what he says and stop buying into the garbage
that is put out about him.
Was listening to Ed Schultz on the radio awhile back and he had the story right.
Beck isn't the only story Shultz has right. Nice to hear him in contrast to
screaming paranoia radio.
My best friend worships at the feet of Glenn Beck. I have tried to understand
him and I just can't. One day he went on a rant because the big bad evil
government had the audacity to cancel a football game due to an impending
blizzard. We do have the constitutional right to watch football don't we. There
are times that I feel like screaming everytime I hear him say leftist,
socialist, or progressive. There just words he uses to frighten people into
believeing the sky is falling.
"Although he airs during Dennys senior discount hour, hes still pulverizing
the prime time 8, 9 and 10 p.m. shows on the other cable news networks."That's pretty offensive to seniors.
@Pagan | 10:04Glimpses of Obamas mindset can be obtained from
reading his two books, The Audacity of Hope and Dreams from My Father where
Obama describes his animosity toward white people. In Dreams from My Father
Obama wrote: "I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance
and animosity against my mother's race."He sat and listened to
the hate filled speech of Jerimiah Write for 20 years.Telling Rosa
Parks to sit in the back of the bus was racist. I think we all agreed to
that.President Obama saying, We cant have special interests sitting
shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We dont mind the
Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in
back. That sound racist to me and to Glen Beck. I guess we will never
agree what constitutes a racist.
@Pagan | 10:04I didn't say that the left did cause Glenn Beck to say
Pres. Obama was a racist. But I still don't get your point. I say
that the only weapon the left has is to use fear mongering and you call Beck a
racist. I really don't understand what your point is.
Glenn Beck is a recovering alcoholic. The other neocon guru, Rush Limbaugh, is a
self-professed drug addict. (What is it about these conservative types?) Why do
you suppose these two conservative heroes are prone to alcohol/drug dependency?
I do know this much. Ask any physician or expert in the field of drug-dependency
and they will tell you you can't trust an alcoholic. Alcoholics lie even when
they don't have to. They are the most difficult people to deal and reason with.
And they always go off the wagon sooner or later. Finally, what do you
suppose the psychological profile is of people who would take the time and
listen to divisive vitriol from these conservative gurus 24/7 and reruns on
weekends? These are some very troubled people it seems to me.
Gotta hand it to the DMN. If they want 100 comments on a non-story, just put
the words Glenn Beck in the title.
Fox didn't fire him - this has been in the mill for some time. Glenn will still
work some with Fox but is going to present some of his own programs and I'm
looking forward to that. He is so good and upbeat that he does need his own
show...he has earned that. I wish there were more Glenn Beck's in the world

Some of the lefty posters think there is no liberal conspiracy to
"get" Glenn Beck. Why does Media Matters employ 86 people (and they
are looking for more), largely funded by George Soros, solely to not only
discredit Glenn Beck but to attack Fox's advertisers. By the way,
Glenn employs 10 researchers. Why does it take 86 people to discredit him -

left, there is an equally wing nut on the right.Meida Matter employs
86.... how many exactly does Fox News employ? I am willing to wager more than
10. How many does the LImbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, Michael Reagan employ? How
about CPAC or APAC? And the Koch brothers haven't funded anything... I am
guessing? Americans for Prosperity is hiring... does that not count. And Brent, it doesn't even take one researcher to discredit Beck. He does a
fine job on his own. In fact, with 10 people doing his research for him, you
would think he would not make some of the huge gaffs that he has made. The
problem is much of this comes down to opinion and point of view, and people will
read, hear, and believe what they want to - and "facts" has far too
little to do with much of it.
Could this be the beginning of the end for Lonesome Rhodes?
Glenn Beck said that hes "a little uncomfortable" with some of Donald
Trump's claims about Obama's birth certificate and that the nation doesn't need
a "show boat." Please, please, please dont make me pick a side.
To be honest, I'm even more terrified than I was before, knowing now that Glenn
Beck is capable of nuance and restraint. I'm not comfortable living in a world
where I have to think about both of them at the same time. You have to admit he
really got our momentum going. Now, onward to take back Worcester, Mass. from
Lucy Stone and the National Women's Rights Convention. Yeah, he really showed
everyone how America has lost touch with its roots and explained why we
absolutely need new leaders in the mold of our great Founding Fathers, like
Glenn Beck himself, a Mormon with no aspirations of higher education.
Pagan Go back to the books, Blood libel has nothing to do with Jesus Christ.Blood libel refers to christians across europe saying the jews were killing
the christian children as a sacrifice, which usually stirred up the locals to
attack and kill the jews. Pallin was saying she was the victim of a false story
to stir up a bogus rage.
Sacked, contract ended or what ever the real breath of fresh air is, Beck is
gone. Good riddance!
I think it is so funny that some posters are making the point and are so
offended at the fact that this is a "biased" article. It is clearly
an opinion piece. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. It is clearly
written by someone who writes commentary and is also personally acquainted with
Glenn Beck. Jason felt a need to report the facts and set the record straight
about what happened. He is also a friend and associate of Glenn's. That
doesn't mean he can't write an article in the Deseret News. It's not a news
When I got creative and told some real whoppers, my Mommy washed my mouth out
with soap.Beck's Mommy must not have.
I just can't believe you would compare Glenn Beck to Walt Disney. I'm not saying
Walt was perfect by any means, but he used his power for primarily good,
positive things to bring people together. Glenn's doom and gloom and divisive
nature is such a sad use of his talent. I'm glad to see him leaving and hope
that with that a few more people don't think the world is going to end any day
now so the country can start working together and bring sanity back into
Awesome Article. I figured the divorce was much more amicable than had been
reported on CNN and MSNBC. Beck will continue to be a political force for good
for the foreseeable future.
I think it's quite simple. Beck offended and revolted enough people that his
advertisers began to hear their discontent. There were several who refused to
advertise on his show -- I did business with them. There were others who did
advertise with them -- I refused to do business with them. And, in each case, I
made sure the business knew what I was doing and why. It's my right to
determine where I will spend my money, and why. Guess what -- the advertisers

It's funny to read the posts of the Glenn Beck haters. Such vicious
comments for someone you don't watch or listen to. Such vitriol for
someone no one watches.Such hate for a man that has lost 300
advertisers.Seriously, do you all just share the snapshot from
Mediamatters, HuffPost, Moveon or PMSNBC?I can't imagine watching or
listening to anyone that you hate so much; or is it that you are all just
jealous of the man and his success?Beck has brought a ton to light
that no one else touched. Kind of like Edwards affair being exposed by the
National Inquirer.Beck has and will continue to run circles around
the "elitists" of the nation.I also challenge all of you
Beck haters to hold every other on air personality to the same standard you hold
Beck. We know you aren't hypocritical in any way, right?
When are the neocons going to understand America is sick to death of this sort
of divisive, insulting, and vitriolic "patriotism" ?
the university of maryland performed a study which concluded that persons who
rely on fox for their news reporting are misinformed regarding key political
issues. google it if you want more information.perhaps with beck gone
fewer people will be misled.
RE: Furry1993RE: LOLIt's obvious you guys didn't even bother

gotta love that union, liberal violent insulting vitiolic togetherness.
RE: the truthWhen Fox starts telling the truth, you will be living
in a thousand years of peace. Until then, it's not going to happen. The good news in Beck leaving Fox is that I am not affected at all--I can go
on living without ever watching/listening to Glenn Beck.
Sounds like someone's got a crush on Glenn Beck.I read the LA Times every
day, and the only way I heard it there was just like man crush described. So
maybe some references to the articles he cites would be useful for building his
case. You go boy! Crush on Glenny!
Even if all you write is true...and I think some of it may actually be
true...you still have no credibility. Let's see, someone who's seeking to do
business with Mr. Beck is giving me the "facts." You're comprised.
This isn't a news article...was it labeled as commentary? Guess I missed that.
Or is the Deseret News trying to disguise commentary as news? Wouldn't be the
first time...the D-News agenda is pretty transparent. I guess the editors no
longer care. Shame...journalism is dieing, if not already dead.
"...Jason Wright was the co-author for Glenn Beck...".There is nothing unusual with being an apologist for a co-author. Mr. Wright
has acknowledged his sympathies and allegiance to Beck. Beck has
more than enough money to commission as many apologists as needed in-order to
write his story any fanciful way he sees fit.The true definition of
To all you Beck haters--I was one at first too. Then I began checking on the
references he gave with his views. Darn it! He was right on the money most of
the time. Soros is a spooky dude who almost brought the UK to financial ruin
just to make $$ and he is buying up large amounts of gold lately, ?? Beck does
his homework which few of his critics do. I'm grateful for an opinion TV
personality who made me do my own research and make up my own mind. I
anticipate his future docu-opinionmenteries will be as good as his past ones.
@Cats"It is clearly an opinion piece. It doesn't pretend to be
anything else."If so, why did the DMN decide to publish this in
the Utah "news" sectino and not the Opinion section?
Like his radio show. I admire his talent. Wish he was a moderate instead of
extreme conservative. I enjoy disagreeing with him.
Jason Wright's day job, for which he undoubtedly gets paid handsomely, is to
make Glenn Beck look good. When you are credited as the (virtually unknown)
"co-author" of a book with a high-school educated celebrity, it means
you did all the heavy lifting and got none of the credit. Interesting that the
DN would take a paid Beck cheerleader like that and pay him to write an
"article" about Beck. I looked for the "opinion" label, but
it was mysteriously absent.
cjb,Beck is not an "extreme conservative".He
is just "extreme".
So much for unbiased journalism.
Beck is wonderful and never diverts attention from reality.
I don't know if it's been brought up by others on this comment board, but
perhaps Beck didn't want his audience (or critics) to view him as a "crazy
Mormon" while Mitt Romney runs for President. Perhaps Beck feels he would
be doing many Americans (potential voters) a disservice by appearing too
whimsical and conspiracy-theory driven. If this is the case, it was a good move
on his part. Though I do not subscribe to most of his opinions, this could have
been a great strategy to help promote Mitt rather than have people group the two
conservative LDS members together in the name of religion.Just my two
Like Beck, I'm LDS, but I truly don't understand the support he seems to have
within the LDS community--which prides itself on seeking and following the
truth--given his seeming disregard for truth. I can understand why people might
watch him or Rush Limbaugh for entertainment purposes, but a lot of their
viewers take them seriously as political commentators. Is Beck OK with
misleading people, as long as he gets a paycheck? If he's so creative, can't he
come up with another way to make lots of money?
The thing is: I don't care why Beck is gone, just glad he is. Whatever he
decides to do next, I still won't be a listen/reader/follower. I just wish he'd
quit acknowledging his "Mormonism". He is extreme, filled with hate,
attention-seeking. I hate for people to link those negative aspects of his
personality with my religion. They may mistakenly attribute them to the entire
Never liked him, never watched him; therefore I won't miss him. But wish him all
the luck in his new adventures.
I am not a fan of Beck, as I do not appreciate his lack of respect for our
duly-elected president. So I admittedly do not watch him and am thus lacking in
some information. What I have heard was that advertisers were upset by his
never-ending conspiracy theories that would make Joe McCarthy blush. Fox lost
revenue because of this, so Beck was fired to stop the hemmoraging (sorry, no
spell-check, but you know what I mean) of cash. Am I wrong on this? I was sure
to find a refutation in your article, but all I saw was how fast Beck's mind
works (I've heard about that-- how many conspiracies can one think up during
each news cycle?). Do you have nay information about these advertisers who left
Fox? Is that an untrue report? Thank you.
I've read too many comments that still falsely state that Beck was
"fired" or "let go." Seriously, why would he be sticking
around for the next 7-8 months if he was fired? Beck decided to
leave so he can now focus his research efforts and message in other areas. Fox
will sorely miss Beck at 5pm, since it is teribly difficult to get any ratings
at that hour, let alone ratings that eclipse ALL of those from MSNBC, CNN, HLN
during prime time - COMBINED!
Carla in WV said: "I truly don't understand the support [Beck] seems to
have within the LDS community--which prides itself on seeking and following the
truth--given his seeming disregard for truth."It's obvious that
you don't listen to or watch Glenn Beck. Please provide an example where Beck
disregards the truth and attempts to lead his audience astray. The
reason a growing number of LDS support Beck isn't because of a shared faith, but
rather because Beck speaks of personal responsibility, God, the Founding
Fathers, the Constitution, and other qualities that LDS culture honor. He
spends a good portion of his programming pleading with his audience to not take
his word at face value, but instead seek personal revelation from God. He also
constantly pleads with his audience to get their finances and personal life in
order, to repent of any wrongdoing, and gain a personal relationship with the
Savior. With these topics at the forefront of his commentary, it is
a wonder why all LDS do not tune in.
God Bless Glenn Beck!!
I used to enjoy watching Beck's program. But it got old after awhile. I think he
needs to follow more of a interview format like O'Reilly and VanSusteren, and
less of the chalkboard conspiracy theories. That said, I'm sure Beck
laughs all the way to the bank when he thinks of the things his critics are
saying. And I have no doubt the mainly liberal news media will do all they can
to put a negative spin on Beck's departure from Fox.
When the Glenn Beck tidal wave rolled in, I gave him more than a good trial. I
listened to many shows and watched him on TV. I bought the DVD on which he
tells his conversion story and invited friends over to watch it. I gave another
copy of the DVD to a non-LDS family member. After awhile, it became obvious
that this was a guy who loved pushing the envelope. Like the class clown in
junior high, he would do anything for attention. Then he discovered the
attention-getting value of the conspiracy theory, especially when layered in a
parfait of quasi-educational rhetoric about history. Claiming to know the mind
God and the Founding Fathers gave him ethos that trumped Rush Limbaugh's
"talent on loan from God." Those who watch him faithfully take him a
lot more seriously than he takes himself. He's an entertainer, for crying out
loud (pun intended)! He's making millions upon millions of dollars, and he
doesn't seem to care whether what he says is true or not (I've fact-checked).
His die-hard fans are sheep who follow a mad ("north by northwest")
RE: Rutland vs. Medfield Glenn Beck is NOT leaving FOX.Glenn Beck was NOT fired.Glenn Beck CHOSE to not renew his
contract and continue his hour show.Glenn Beck will still be on FOX
as a guest and will br creating other programming for FOX among many other
things he is still and will be doing.
I really do not understand all of the poster who defend Beck by saying that
those who attack him have never listened to him. I share his faith, watched him
for awhile, until he really fell off the deep end. Do not quote scripture when
it comes to mass media. It is insulting to all faiths.
Are you kidding? Those who think Beck made the decision are still drinking the
kool aide. As one who is familiar with the business side, there is no way Beck
would walk away from the publicity he receives by being with Fox. It would be
insane to do so because being in media it is all about exposure. Fox is not
going anywhere, and no one person can make or break the platform. But Beck can
and will make or break his own endeavor. It's an enormous amount of risk for
him to do this. I don't believe for a second that it was his choice.
"Perhaps the enduring lesson of this story is that relying on the truth
from those rooting for your failure is a bad idea" There's an
interesting quote. If extended to the president of our country, this means that
I shouldn't believe anyone's commentary on the president if they have something
to gain from the president's downfall, like, gee, I don't know, maybe the
*Rebulican Party*?! So, if Mr. Beck stands up on his show and decries health
care reform, complete with a few tears, does that mean that I shouldn't believe
him because he made his ratings skyrocket by attacking health care reform (and
making it sound like the worst thing since the Vietnam War)? The fact is,
there's little that comes up on the news, most especially politics, that one can
take at face value anymore. Truth rarely plays much of a role these days, and
trust is in ever-decreasing supply (no matter what side you stand on).
Beck is killing in the ratings and the sack him? If ever there was an apologist
piece, it has to be this. Talks about Beck's underrated machine, well, this is
it. Beck had his moment and it is now passing him by, just as it seems to be
for Palin. I'm betting the world is tiring of the antics and the extremism.
The circus stayed on the stayed too long and the audience is bored.
Interesting to me that this is in the entertainment section. I know my comments
won't get posted here, because I am not a Glenn Beck fan. Some may view him as
creative, but his massive ego puts me off.
Holy-Glenn Beck-worship Batman. This author needs to try harder to show an
unbiased opinion. Glenn Beck's wonderful ideas are nuetered by his
rantings, ravings, and misdirects.
If only that creativity belonged to someone able to take responsibility for his
A man reads books and thinks out loud is hated. A man who asks why

They won't do it, because they can't. Those that can't hate those
that can. Hate is a form of intellectual racism.
Nothing but the truth on this article. Of course, that won't stop liberals from
saying Beck was "fired".However, go check the ratings,
like the article suggested. Beck was winning the ratings for his time slot.
Again, go check the ratings yourself.Facts are truth and truth just
doesn't go away even if you wish it would.Unfortunately liberals
refuse to believe that......
okay, so why was glenn beck fired?
If you check the authors creds, you'll realize this is hardly objective
journalism. Its got more spin than Fixed News will ever have. Simply
put, The Beckster was no longer a rain maker for Rupert Murdoch... so good bye
Glenn.FWIW; I love how the article states Glennie is more Walt
Disney than Rush L and a wildly creative thinker. Now thats comedy.
Beck may make more money with his new venture but have less influence. Which is
I cant believe Becks ratings were high. Almost all of the talking heads are very
predictable and boring. Why even have a show really when you already know the
side the person is going to take. I disagree with Michael Savage almost every
day, but he is still obviously a well educated man. He has depth and is
entertaining. Beck with that blackboard and all those evil icons Hitler,
Communism, is laughable and silly. Funny how you can go to a liberal rally and
see George Bush portrayed as Hitler, and you see Beck trying to demonize Obama
and dems with the same imagery. Its all so silly. The fact is all these greedy
dishonest people caused and continue to cause our woes. Thinking it is any one
party is just not true. If everyone was an honest person, we would not have
these troubles. People lying to get Welfare, Wall ST. greed, Illegals taxing the
system, companies that want the cheapest labor possible, outsourcing,
overtaxing, loopholes to pay zero tax, etc....it all is the problem...Dems and
Repubs are all the same. Few good people on each side
I think the popularity of paranoid conspiracy rhetoric is fading. (At least I
hope so). The conservative Sutherland Institute just published a wonderful essay
on this with regard to the immigration debate. And with regard to Bro. Beck and
others (Olbermann on the other side) is that most people can only get excited so
long before they start wondering why the all the hysterical forebodings aren't
exactly coming true. Of course there will always be some, as we read here in the
comments, who will go to the dark side of fear and paranoia and popularize those
like Beck. With all the discussion of the level of violence-toned speech after
the Arizona shooting, regardless of the merits of any of the arguments or actual
causes of that horrible incident, most people do feel a sense to tone it down a
bit - that it's just not appropriate to be so excited or excitable. Thank
Jason,You can't be upset that there were unsubstantiated rumors
about why Beck was leaving his television show on Fox. Beck's entire show on
Fox focused on unsubstantiated rumors. What goes around, comes around. Sadly
the Beckians want to blame the "main-stream" media for the problem
either way.More truth. Less Beck.
fishie, keep telling yourself those lies, maybe they will come true, till then
DEAL with FACTS like BECK does every night.
On balance the critics loose by a landslide. With more stories than nearly all
the other journalists combined not a single story ever brought to light by this
man has ever been discredited. From the scam of carbon credits, GE, NBC,Fannie
Mae, predicting Katrina's distruction and scores of other topics he has always
been cutting edge. His research and intuitivness has led him down this road
which most of us would rather block out and frankly he fell a little on the
sword of truth which most would rather dismiss than confront. You are a fool if
you think he ever brought up these subjects for ratings.
Glenn Beck is a sensationalist. Glenn Beck promotes fear and creates an
environment of "hate" tours "the left", and name calling.
For many, the "left" is nothing but evil. But take it as no surprise
that the Right or "conservatives" are just as wrong and guilty than
the left, In fact, I would even fear them most, they can hide behind the slogans
of religion. And they are. Food for thought for all who hide behind
conservativsm.. "Those who govern their thoughts and actions solely
by the principles of liberalism or conservatism or intellectualism cannot be
expected to agree with all of the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As
for me, I find some wisdom in liberalism, some wisdom in conservatism, and much
truth in intellectualismâbut I find no salvation in any of them."- Dallin H. OaksAs for me, I'd follow that guideline and not that
of Mr. Beck :)
"Whether or not you agree with Beck on politics and policy, its almost
indisputable hes more Walt Disney than Rush Limbaugh.".Finally,
a candid admission that Beck's about fantasy..I care much less *why*
he's off the air than *that* he's off the air.
Thank you, Jason, for a clearer picture of things. And thank you, Glenn, for
some very interesting lessons on the Constitution, the framers and those who
would gladly destroy all that has come from the sacrifices of so many. I'll
listen to you wherever you land.
I've never watched or listened to Beck. I prefer doing my own research rather
than having anyone spin it for me.However, reading these comments
have influenced me in favor of Beck. The Anti-Becks have not provided one iota
of evidence (other than outrageously expressed personal opinion) to support the
claim that he was fired and why.If you want to make your
argument: - Show actual ratings data that proves he is losing viewers,
or - Show actual marketing data demonstrating that his show and/or Fox is
losing advertisers, or - Provide real evidence that he was fired rather
than exercised his own option to pursue other interests.Until you do
that, you are nothing but mind-washed simpletons believing what you want to
believe without regard to truth. Ironic since that is your biggest complaint
about Beck.If you gathered all the anti-Becks and gave them a
one-hour show to expose Beck, based on what I have read here, they do not have
one shred of real evidence to support any of their claims. They would be off the
air before their hour was up.
Again Phil where is the sensationalism with Jeffrey Immelt, Franklin Raines, or
Jaime Gorelic, and the most visited member of the White House Andy Stern and
their influence on this administration? You are a hypocrite calling Beck a hate
monger as other bloggers have stated he goes out of the way in all instances to
preach the opposite. Look closely at any of his rally's they have been
remarcable in the mild tone of speech and wonderful decorum of the attendee's.
You villify him when in truth he preaches just the opposite of hate speech.
Awesome analysis Machado, again a central theme of his show for its entirety has
been an open call made nearly daily for anyone to refute any of his claims. He
constantly underscores the importance of doing your own homework. Seriously I
doubt if 99% of his detractors have watched a full episode of his program. If
they have they are intellectually dishonest in their criticism on the counts
they simply have never shown a modicum of proof of. Your last comment really
cut to the chase in regards to national dialoge with the hundreds of themes he
has presented not once has he been proven wrong in his hypothesis.
I suggest that Glenn Beck collaborate on an independent talk show with Charlie
Sheen. It will be the best thing since Tammy Fay Bakker got her show going with
Too bad Glenn hasn't learned that mature, thinking people just want facts and
don't need to be entertained. I haven't' been able to stand to listen to him for
many, many months.
The Deseret News itself is guilty of spreading false and misleading news about
Beck. Google deseret news glen beck show ending. Anytime anybody
takes a stand, such as Beck, opponents call it extremism. What is a moderate
but somebody who refuses to take a stand, preferring to waffle on issues?
Either Obama is a left-wing liberal or he is not. With all the evidence that is
available, anybody who thinks he is not a far-left extremist is either an idiot,
ignorant or so liberal that the forest can't be seen for the trees.I
admire Beck for taking a stand and for using actual historical facts to show
what liberalism has done to America and the world.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't usually consider being "extremely
creative" a positive thing when it comes to telling the truth. And that is
supposedly Mr. Beck's job, is it not? I think perhaps he missed his calling as a
Hollywood screenwriter - the public loves a good conspiracy thriller!
Why isn't he concerned about fixing what's wrong instead of spending so much
time trying to figure out ways to make money from his fans? You know
you can only spin something around so many times before it either breaks or
A very lopsided review. What the writer calls "creative energy" many
see as creative lies. I understand he's an entertainer and nothing more than
that, but my guess there are some who follow Beck that believe in the dishonest
contexts he creates as he makes his arguments. Limbaugh does the same. It's
clear a majority of his audience is republican and uneducated--it's not the
republican part that's the trouble. There is actually an intellectual tradition
from the right that should be taken seriously. Beck is not it.
If a company does not renew a talk show host's contract, he is, in effect,
fired. I am surprised you don't know the basic fact that number of viewers, in
and of itself, is important only when it translates into REVENUE. In other
words, advertising dollars. Usually a show will get the ad dollars if it has
high viewership, but that was not happening with Beck's show. Because of his
extreme positions and racist rants, large corporations stopped supporting his
show with ads. If you don't even know this, then you are too uninformed to write
the headline says Why Fox News fired Glenn Beck. the article says Fox News
didn't fire Glenn Beck. I'm troubled by this inconsistency, especially since
the headline is what lured me into read the article. That seems deceitful to
me, even though I haven't been harmed too much.
So reader2011: Cite your sources. How did you come up with this
"truth" when there is empirical evidence that disputes it?Why are you so certain that you feel you can completely discount or ignore any
evidence that doesn't support your own opinion? Are you the
brain-washed simple-minded one that just parrots what you have heard others say
without any evidence to support their claims?Or do you have real
numbers and real data to support your posting?
Beck for president...ha ha ha ha
First I have been told for quite a while by my conservative friends that ONLY
FOX is honest and fair, not like those other biased stations -- now I am told
that FOX is indeed a purveyor of falsehoods -- which is it folks?Yet, with
consistency, the prevailing message is that Mr. Beck 'cannot tell a lie' or even
'stretch the truth', correct? So, no matter the source, if it contradicts Mr.
Beck, it is, ipso facto, unreliable. If you say it enough times, it will become
a 'truism' -- isn't it ironic that the media (TV and radio) that have made Mr.
Beck famous will someday also be his un-doing -- which actually does not make me
happy, just sorry for him and his 'never-questioning, never-even-critical
Loved Beck's book Overton Window. Spoke with a long-time friend re world
domination conspiracy theory. He's a long-time BYU religion professor so judge
for yourself. His response was enlightening. Satan has vowed to dominate the
world and thus far has done quite well. In light of Satan's undeniable presence
and influence in today's world can anyone DENY the obvious?
It would be my earnest prayer that our Father in Heaven, will grant our beloved
America another thousand American Patriots just like Mr Beck. I just read, The
5000 Year Leap by W.Cleon Skousen. Every high school and college student should
read that great book. Mr Beck, would have fit right in with our Founding
Fathers. Mr Beck, is that American Patriot that is truly an American Citizen
that does protect and defend, America's sacred gift from God, America
beloved Constitution. Mr Beck exposes the evil progressives, the haters of
America's Constitution. May God protect Mr Beck and his loved ones.
