So Utah spent about a lot of money a few years ago to study moving the prison
and now they want to spend another stack of cash to look into moving it again
when they openly say that it can't/won't be done any time soon. What a waste of
tax funds Utah doesn't have right now.
Chaffetz wants to see how the Fed can help pay for a new prison. Can you say
"ear mark". Chaffetz needs to go and go now. he does not represent
Utah. help represents himself and special interests. Yes Draper is a special
interest. They need to the city needs to sit down and keeop quiet. Draper is not
the Satte of Utah. Although they think they are.
In the UK prisons are usually within walled blocks right in town. For less
money than moving it we could secure it for the safety of the residents around
it.I think Draper would be better off, too, for the local employment
it probably brings to their economy. I would like to see the Deseret News do
figures on that to see if I am right.
A bunch of realtors are interested in moving it off that prime property.and getting the taxpayers to cover the cost, God bless our republican
What Chaffetz proposed was to insure that the new prison received a certain
number of Federal prisoners. The income produced by keeping extra federal
prisoners helps pay for some of the cost of the new prison. This is not earmark
money, and it is not money that is not already being paid to some other prison
right now. There is no increase in federal expenditures only a rerouting of
that money into our state prison system. It is best to study the prison
move now as it takes years to make something like this to happen. This way we
have a plan in place when the value of the land increases again and the sale of
the more valuable land helps finance the prison. If we wait, when the
opportunity presents itself we will not be ready. This is just good business
planning. Have the plan and hopefully a couple of alternate plans in the
state's back pocket ready to go when the moment is right.
Should have done it years ago when I-15 was first built. They should have
built a new prison where Eagle Mountain is now... away from the Freeway and
developed the Point of the mountain area... thus it would have aleviated all the
traffic problems that Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs have created and
wouldn't have the prison so close to a major corridor.
Hmmm... funny how they didn't mention the cost of this "study" that
the "conservative" Republicans will pass on to taxpayers. I guess
moving the prison is a better use of funds than educating children.
Re: CHS 85 | 11:42 p.m. Feb. 28, 2011If we have enough money to fund
the education of illegal aliens we obviously have plenty.Personally
I think we should make a deal with the Goshute Indians to house our criminal out
there. It would be a win win for everybody, except maybe for the convicts.
