Ditto that Max was right. He acts like byu owes the MWC something.
BYU thinks they can get more money somewhere else. Every school in the nation
is going to go after more money was possible. It's funny when they
throw a hissy fit.
Rocky is trying to turn things around....playing BYU will only guarantee one
thing...another loss for SDSU, every year......he should add teams like NAU,
Weber State, Snow to SDSU schedule and stay away from the BYU's~~
Most coaches from the MWC are upset that BYU, TCU and Utah are leaving. I mean,
they are lucky that Boise came to the conference. Without them, who is going to
bring the money in to support the conference, the Mountain??? All 3 teams made
wise choices, just in different ways. Good luck to all of them.
Rocky was born in Provo because his dad was playing football for byu at that
Just another hater. It's tough when one of your disciples is working you every
year. It don't matter if Long is a head coach at New Mexico, or an assistant at
San Diego, he can't beat the Y!Whiner! Why so bitter!
Rocky Long Envy? What a whiner. He should be happy that BYU is
leaving because he's been owned by them. BYU never lost to Rocky Long under
Bronco Mendenhall's tenure. The real losers in all of this is the
WAC. Yeah the MWC lost out on 3 great teams, but how do you think the WAC feels?
I don't know how they are going to survive as a conference.
Oh Rocky Long - you kind of sound like a bad sport. Before your classless
comments I actually thought you were kind of a class act. Guess I was wrong.
Doesn't matter anyway, Rocky won't fair much better in San Diego than he did at
Nothing would make the tds more happy than to have the MWC games back.To all the MWC programs, please DO NOT play the tds. Let them die on the vine.
In all seriousness, why is everyone out to get BYU?What did we ever
do to anybody? I can understand the rivalry and what not as long as it's all in
good fun, but where is all of this hatred coming from? Seriously? I'm perfectly
aware that it exists, I've really just never understoond why.I
really don't genuinely hate any other team. I just get irritated when other
certain team's fans act like idiots towards us. I suppose if the
misguided hate is hate towards the LDS church then I suppose I understand it,
but it is really unfortunate that it exists because of that. It's wrong to hate
anyone. I don't hate any random religion just because it's there or it's
different. And those in the LDS Church that hate BYU, that's what I understand
the least. They are probably the most misguided ones of all. Is it because of
the "hypocrisy?" Isn't there "hypocrisy" among members of
the church that don't attend BYU? Isn't there also "self righteous,
arrogant" church members that are alumns of other schools? We (everyone)
need to be more Christian.
BYU games at SDSU have always attracted 10,000 to 20,000 more fans than SDSU
usually gets, so the Long is simply cutting off his nose to spite his face.SDSU not scheduling BYU will have zero impact on the Cougars. With ESPN
as a scheduling partner, BYU won't have any trouble filling their schedule and
filling their stadium with attractive games.Lol at the misguided
pronouncements of doom from the trolls; BYU's 2011 home schedule isn't at all
indicative of the kinds of teams that will be playing in Provo in 2012 and
beyond. The trolls will be green with envy when the Cougars start announcing
their future schedules.
Interesting tactic by Rocky; he's been owned by BYU and Bronco, so by refusing
to play BYU, he can avoid at least one built in loss in his schedule for the
next 5 or 6 years. By blaming BYU for leaving the MWC, he can make it appear
that it's BYU's fault that he won't play them, not that he's afraid to play the
Cougars. Smart move by a veteran coach.
Keep it classy San Diego.
I can't understand all the hate for BYU either. The most ludicrous one I keep
hearing is that BYU was the entity behind the creation of theMTN, that they
"forced" the TV Network down everybody else's throats, and now that
they don't like how it turned out they are bailing. Crazy.Utah and
TCU are leaving as well, yet the same hatred doesn't exist for them. No other
team in the conference has been such a boon to the revenues of the teams it
plays. As has been stated, most teams have had their highest attendance when
playing BYU. Case in point: the Wyoming basketball game the other night. Plus,
hasn't it been stated that most of the revenue from theMtn net work comes from
Utah?So much for that. These MTN West schools will miss BYU and
Utah a lot, more so than TCU I would guess. Don't know what you got 'til it's
Many of you have already answered your own questions. There are a couple of
reasons for the hate and bitterness towards BYU. 1st is that BYU has routinely
beat them up for several decades in almost every sport. The other is that BYU
almost sngle handedly carried them all economically for all of that time.It was a situation where they all hated to get trounced but they needed
BYU anyway because BYU brought the tv money and BYU borught fans to their
stadiums and arenas and for a long time BYU was the only team bringing any bowl
money. It was a codependent relationship for all of those other
schools. They hated BYU abusing them on the court and field but needed BYU for
credibility and revenue.I can understand the hate. Now
BYU has bailed on them, BYU finally had enough of carrying them and these guys
are bitter about it. They never wanted to publicly admit they are inferior but
always knew they were. Now They have to fend for themselves and it will be all
the more apparent they aren't worth on their own what they were with BYU to
gravy train off of.
It's surprising that Rocky is so clueless and bitter about this. First off, his
statement that BYU would like to keep playing all of the MWC schools couldn't be
farther from the truth. The main point of is move (as has been clearly stated
by BYU many, many times) is exposure. How will BYU increase it's national
exposure by continuing to play MWC teams? Look at who they have already been
scheduling and you'll find teams from all over the country and this is just the
beginning of the independence era. Give it a few more years as Rocky stated and
SDSU won't have a prayer at getting on BYU's schedule. Furthermore, didn't
Rocky just leave New Mexico to move to SDSU and as an assistant coach at that?
He didn't have any idea that he'd move up to head coach after only 1 year in the
program and yet he deserted UNM after many years there as HC. How can he
complain about BYU moving on to a better opportunity when he just did the same
Duckhunter well said. Here come the bottom line. Rocky Long won't be SDSU's
head coach in 6 to 7 years to who cares what he thinks. The other comical thing
is how much additional revenue SDSU received each time they played BYU.
Gee, what was SDSU's status when they joined the WAC?You're right.
They were an independent. They needed the WAC because even after playing a
decent schedule most years, and beating Florida State once, they had been
totally ignored for the few bowls that existed back then. When they
joined the WAC they thought they had a free pass to the Holiday Bowl. They lost
their first WAC game to...that's right the mighty UTEP Miners.I was
sad to see Brady Hokek leave because it seemed like SDSU was finally going to
reach its potential.
The dogs may bark but the caravan moves on!BYU was the best partner
the WAC and MWC ever had and they kept every commitment they ever made at great
expense and sacrifice. It's my understanding BYU had no intention to move to
independence until Utah was officially invited to the PAC12. Had Utah Stayed,
BYU would have stayed. The move to independence was not about money
as many have suggested. They built the new broadcasting facility at tremendous
cost with the intent to give the LDS church visibility. ESPN knew
the broadcast facility was a fantastic opportunity and the two entities
partnered. Fore sure BYU enticed ESPN and BYU spent millions of dollars annually
to promote their BRAND but for the purpose of exposure not revenue. Every team in the MWC owed their financial viability to BYU and rather than
despising BYU they might try thanking BYU. I think if Mr. Thompson and the
remaining MWC members would engage BYU rather than hating them, BYU would still
agree to be great partners.Case in point, TCU has come full circle
and entered talks, the others I think will too
Hey Hedgehog! I do understand your hatred toward the tds.First, you
use an expression (the tds) coined by Coach Meyer. The same guy who left your
team high and dry for a "sunnier climate."Second, you've
spent a couple of decades with your teams face in the muddy wagon tracks under
the boot of BYUs relentless offense AND defense. And third, you
realize that even though you're going to the PAC-Whatever, BYU will eventually
be playing a far more meaningful schedule and basking in the light of
independence (which actually mean Scheduling Freedom). The hatred
ensued by so many is mainly due to envy more than any thing else. tds/BYU has
done more coming from what most thought was a less tenable situation. The honor
code. . . who would want to go where that's in force. Not even a cup of joe!
And, at first thought (by Oklahoma Coach Berry Swisher) that bringing back
return missionaries was such foolishness - he then turned an about face and said
it was unfair to have these seasoned players on BYUs squad. It's not
the last time you'll hear the whining people.
"To all the MWC programs, please DO NOT play the tds. Let them die on the
vine."Another classless and idiotic comment from the clueless.
Rocky Long may not want to play BYU, but SDSU administrators will want to play
because of the fans and money BYU brings in.I've heard the BYU and
the Holiday Bowl (i.e. San Diego) are trying to put a multi year agreement
together starting in 2014. The MWC has really risen in stature the
past few years. In football and basketball they are on par or better than some
of the AQ conferences. With BYU, TCU and Utah leaving; the MWC will be just
another mid-major conference - on par with Conf USA.I still think
the real loser in all of this is BSU. Had they known that BYU, TCU and Utah
were leaving there is no way they make the move to the MWC. And without BSU
moving, Nevada, Fresno and Hawaii would not move. BSU will really be hurt by
the lack of media coverage and will be longing for "the good ole'
days".I can't wait to watch BYU on ESPN next year. ESPN is
already in love with Jimmer. Next year they will be in love with Jake. Go
where will they get their revenue from when they only have a big crowd when they
come to hate BYU.
MWC schools dislike BYU for the same reason that third world countries hate the
USA for helping them. BYU carried the WAC and the MWC for decades. The other
schools are too prideful to say thank you for everything you done. Instead, they
say we hate you because you won't keep giving. BYU would gladly have stayed in
the MWC if they would have given them some freedom with the broadcasting. It
would have been a win win. BYU would have gotten the exposure they wanted and
the MWC would have kept their flagship program. I also believe that BYU will end
up in a conference within 5 years unless the independent gig really takes off.
They have too many positives to not be attractive to conferences who may expand.
I just hope it is NEVER the PAC.
Rocky is such a man of integrity, he would never take advantage of the
missionary 2-year rule as it would give him an unfair advantage and lead him to
multiple national championships. Way to go Rocky...enjoy sucking salary your
2-3 year stint at SDSU!
@H-hog:he likes to describe The Mighty Cougars as the
"tds". Some think Urban Meyer coined the phrase. Actually it was Woody
Hayes (Ohio State) who originated it with TUN - his affection for Michigan
spawned the name. Never would "Michigan" roll off his lips. It was
always TUN. Urban Meyer simply reversed it.At any rate - H-hog and
Rocky Long: two peas in a pod. And both sore losers.
Envy make people say crazy immature things.
I wonder what the people of Albuquerque would say about being "treated
right", nice mess you left there at your Alma Mater Rocky. Yeah you don't
want to play BYU...cause selling tickets obviously doesn't matter at SDSU.
Better order more tarps to cover empty seats Rocky.
