It just feels wrong to see Norm Chow with a U shirt on. Great hire for the
Here's one for the naysayers and the Cougars who slammed the Utes appointment of
Chow as OC. From the Los Angeles Wave; "Physically,
East L.A. College wide receiver Anthony Denham resembles some of the past big
receivers coached by Norm Chow." The 6-foot-6, 215-pound
wideout would love nothing better than to follow in the footsteps of Dwayne
Jarrett and Mike Williams, big receivers who enjoyed tremendous success while
Chow was offensive coordinator at USC.That was a key reason Denham
signed a national football letter of intent with the University of Utah, where
Chow was recently named offensive coordinator " Have another
helping of crow ?
It doesn't matter hailstorm if there is not a decent qb throwing to him. Right
now you have wynn. He is not any good. Actually he is bad. The utes were unable
to sign a qb this year. One decommitted and went to wahsington and another
publicly humiliated them on national tv yesterday as he was announcing for
asu.If you can't even get a qb to throw to guys then who really
cares how many wr's you have.

Duckhunter, of stating how Heaps would have had better numbers had Nelson not
been in the mix early on. Remember, Wynn missed two games early on against New
Mexico and UNLV, two of Heaps' best performances. So if Wynn is bad,
what is Heaps? Look, I'm not saying the BYU QB is bad...in fact, I
think Heaps is great, and going into his sophomore season he could be pretty
good. I'm just saying there are a lot of Cougar faithful who neglect
the fact that Wynn is actually a solid QB by ignoring the stats. And
now he's got another great target to throw at.Go Utes!

scores to qualify, he still lacked some core classes.Otherwise, he

Hailstorm, why does anyone need crow? Chow did his job.Glad the kid
@ Hedge, The picture will be clear when the u faces BYU later this year we will
all MARK IT DOWN what you think and allow you to eat another meal of crow. We
will see how you great qb does in the pac12. Get utes to seeing your team at or
near the bottom of your conference. I just can't wait to comment when we are
getting all the national attention and the mighty utes are going nowhere ...real
Look at the picture of Norm. Does it look tired or just old and worn out! One
or two seasons with the yewties and he will retire...probably saying something
like.."there's just no hope for this team".
Sounds like a strong possibility for a good career at Utah. Getting Chow is good
for Utah. This player coming is potential proof of that. Unlike some folks on
these boards from Utah and BYU I believe that Wynn is a decent quarterback.
However, he would be much better if he learned to shave that fuzzy face. If
nothing else that would improve his media image. Now let's put this
dog to bed and get a few of the Ute fans here to text their fellow fans alerting
them about AAA's free service this weekend (see article on DNews).
Good get for Utah. This kid could be one of the best ever at Utah. TBD in about
3 years. Also, as he demonstrated last year. Wynn was good against average and
bad defenses, and not so good against good defenses. He did not handle pressure
well. If he was really hurt at the end of the year then he could be solid again
this year. I would still rather have Heaps but if the new "skill"
position players step up Utah could be decent(good by the middle of the season).
I expect them to struggle at the first of the season like BYU did last year but
gel and mature as the season goes on, getting better and having more wins. I
think 7-8 wins would be considered a good year for the Utes in the PAC.
Eddie,Yea, Norm looks about as tired and worn out as General Patton
did at the same age heading up to relieve the 101st Airborne at Bastogne during
the Battle of the Bulge. Do you have any idea how that turned out?
@MiPI don't care about those ratings. I care about what I saw on the
field and wynn was not good. He was actually worse than he was the previous
year. That is called "regression". Remember wyn was a sophomore with a
starting experience and a veteran team aorund him. Heaps was a freshman with
mostly other freshman around him. Yes it is fun to make all of the
ute "fans" on here upset by making statements like that but my honest
opinion of wynn is that he is at best mediocre. Add that to the disastrous
hiring of the ill equiped and inexperienced Johnson as the qb coach and wynn got
worse as the year went along. My point, although irritting to ute
"fans" is that you can have all the great wr's you want to have but
without a decent qb throwing to them they are not going to get much done.utah tried very hard to recruit a couple of qb's this year and was shut
out. That is a massive failure and one that is being glossed over by media and
ute "fans". Intersting considering that seemed to be their 2nd biggest
Chow paying dividends already for U. Loved him when he was with us at the Y. Now
that all the hoopla is over can we finish out this rivalry and get on with our
A continuation of mediocrity. This ought to keep some ute fans alive with their
fantasies. Sorry folks---the utes will never win a future conference or national
championship. Just won't happen! Even if they went to the Big Sky
conference--it would'nt happen.

coaches do?So, again, we have a story that Norm Chow did his job?Are we that insecure with the decision to hire chow that a story is
written to tell us he is doing his job?How exciting.Chow
is a good hire, and will do a good job.BTW, my daughter has a
spelling test tomorrow. I wonder if the teacher will give the test? That, too,
would make a great story, and you could post your excitement there, also...
#7--No respect for the Utes recruiting class. Watch out Pac 10! Utes hate being
looked down on.
It never ceases to amaze me how some ute fans (not all) love to HATE anything
BYU UNTIL they dawn the crimson. It really is revealing of the downright
JUDGEMENTAL attitude some ute fans constantly display.some utes'
view:Whittingham - hated him as the defensive player of the year at BYU.
loved him once he wore red as a defensive coach and now head coach. Suddenly
he's acceptable.Chow - hated him for years as BYU OC but all of a sudden
he's the new savior of u offense. Only the color change from red, to blue, take
your pick, and back to red.Roderick - hated him as a BYU receiver but was
identified as the savior of the u offense two years ago. Only the color changed
people.Sitake - hated him at BYU as a RB and viable threat out of the
backfield. Love him as a graduate assistant and now defensive coordinator.
Only the color changed people. Many BYU fans were disappointed that
the utes landed a stellar coach in Kafusi but didn't spit venom at him because
he wore red. We were glad to have him rejoin the Cougars as defensive line
Duckhunter,You bag on the Utes for hiring BJ as the QB Coach, yet
BYU hires an inexperienced Doman as the new OC and then inexperienced Cahoon as
the WR Coach? Sounds pretty hypocritical to me.QB Coach is a much
easier job than OC, so dont try and tell me Doman is the man, only time will
tell. Also, Tyler Shreve will be in uniform this year and could make
the QB situation at Utah much brighter than people think.
Some BYU views:Edwards-hated him as a line backer at Utah State,
loved him once he wore blue as a defensive coach and then head coach at BYU.
Suddenly, he is acceptable.Chow-hated him for years as a player at Utah
but suddenly he's the new savior of the BYU offense. Only color change from red
to blue and back to red.Roderick-loved him as a receiver at BYU but hate
him as a coach at Utah. Now love him again because Bronco tried to hire him
away from Utah a few weeks ago.LaDell Anderson-Hated him as an assistant
basketball coach at Utah under Jack Gardner and as a Head Coach at Utah State
but loved him as the head basketball coach at BYU. Changed color from red to
Utah State blue to BYU Blue. Oh, my!Riley Nelson-Hated him as a player at
Utah State but loved him briefly as the starting QB at BYU. Must I go on?
Please stop me.
re: DuckhunterWould you rather Utah; 1)Try to steal a 4* QB at the
last minute, even though they already have a freshman QB for this year (Tyler
Shreve), or 2)Take a QB committment from a 5'9 local kid who will never see the
field as a QB at the D1 level like your Cougs?Jordan Wynn will be
fine, if his surgery goes according to plan. He was a good QB, with moments of
being very good, before he injured his shoulder and played through it all
season. If he doesn't, Robles will get a shot. You know, the kid
from Utah that your Cougars badly wanted.Meanwhile, they will work
to develop their true freshman, Shreve, and look to hit big on a QB next year.
Getting a QB was a luxury this year. That's why they shot for a big
one, and didn't panic and take an average one, like Kuresa, just to have a QB in
@coachcarterLet's analyze your little rant.I've never
made a comment about Doman being promoted but of course Doman does have a proven
record of success at what he has done and has probably earned the opportunity.
He was a siccessful college qb. He played in the nfl. He has been an assitand
coach for several years and the 2 qb's he has coached are now both in the nfl.
We will have to wait and see if he is successful but everything he has done to
this point has been successful. If you will go to the article about
Cahoons hiring you will see my comment was that we have no idea of he will be a
good coach and will have to wait and see. Brian johnson on the
otherhand was a 21 year old kid with no coaching experience and no pro
experience and no credentials whatsoever. Under his tutelage last year utahs
qb's actually got worse. He now has a track record of failure. In
short I never said Doman or Cahoon would be good and until they do their jobs we
won't know. Thanks for going off halfcocked and uninformed.
I'm really disgusted with the childish BYU this and Utah that crap! Get some
perspective everyone! You know you go to the "University" to get a
better handle on the "Universal" view of things, to better understand
the "broad" perspective of life. This passion for school
versus school is crazy. For Pete sake, Norm Chow did his job as a coach, Bronco
righted the ship, Jake Heaps exceeded expectations for a Freshman, Jordan Wynn
was fantastic until hurt. There, now that didn't even hurt, and no one bleeds
redder than me!Capeche!
Dutchman...So now Chow is Patton? You really crack me up. So we now
compare age to how good someone is!Keep thinking up these wonderful
examples, they are very thought provoking.I guess we should all wait
and see how many players Chow (Patton) slaps for being cowards for not wanting
to get back into the game(s) in the pac 12!
Dutchman:Too bad that you have to do tit-for-tat rather than accept
that some ute fans are just as judgemental as you paint the BYU fans. Thanks for
pointing it out in BYU fans like the utes always do. You've done that for years
and termed BYU fans as "better than thou" and judgemental. Just look
in the mirror and realize that many that wear red do the exact same thing. And
by the way, show me where people expressed "hate" for Roderick,
Sitake, Kafusi. Admit it that for years Chow was DESPISED as anything on the
hill but suddenly is a great pick up by the u. Can you do that? I can totally
admit that Sitake, Roderick, Kafusi, and Whittingham have been great for the u
and wish we had their talent. Just love how the standard for expectations is so
low at the u that ANY behavior can be justified but if others hold to higher
expectations they are termed hypocrites.By the way, show me ANYWHERE
that BYU fans disliked LaVell Edwards when he was at Utah State. Nice Try!
Without the title, Cahoon has been working (coaching) with the receivers during
the off season. That's how Bronco knew about him.
Does Doman's cup of coffee with the 49'ers really count as "pro
experience"? Gimmee a break.
and Duckhunter knows all that because he dug out the sod for the track at the U
and went to school with Kyle and the Kaufusis and eats burritos at Taco Bell and
coaches little league and keeps stats while the other guys play in the game.LOL
Duckhunter,In case you forgot, BJ was an amazing QB at the U, after
all, he was the winningest QB in the history of the U.Just because
someone has an NFL ''career'', doesn't mean that will translate into a great
coach. Doman's NFL stint was nothing to write home about. Brett Ratliff has
managed to hang around in the NFL for just as long as Doman.Wynn
played the last 5 games of the year with a banged up shoulder, so to blame BJ
for that doesn't make any sense. Finally, I don't troll on BYU
articles, there is no reason for me too, so to ramble on about your comments
about Cahoon also doesn't make sense. So I say to you, thanks for
going off half-cocked and uninformed.
@MAFU1- Doman does not drink coffee.2-Drawing a paycheck
from an NFL team at any time, let alone for three years, is a dream 99.99% of
every living human being, will never be able to say they have achieved.3-For You, who never earned a High School letter, yur biting comment is
Here's the big question. Why are u fans jawing about BYU instead of USC, Oregon
and the FIVE other pac schools with better recruiting classes than yours? Will you be happy with a 7th place conference finish as long as you beat
the Y? You really are still the little brother!
Big_BenYou know the Utes would trade Wynn for Heaps in a heartbeat
if they had the chance.
Duckhunter,Tell us more about how you built the Utah athletic
facilities brick by brick with your own hands....Please grace us
with another story about your life long friendship with Coach Whitt.....Ducky, have you ever meet Buster? Oh, the tales you'd tell.LOL!!!
Making Sense,You are one of the "holier than thou's"
aren't you. You come out making one of your judgmental comments about Utah fans
with no evidence to back it up and then can't take it when dished right back.
Well here it is dished right back at ya "It never ceases to amaze me how
some BYU fans (not all) love to HATE anything Utah UNTIL they dawn the blue. It
really is revealing of the downright JUDGEMENTAL attitude some BYU fans
constantly display. You didn't have an answer regarding LaDell Anderson did
you. You guys dispised him until he became your coach. Go back and read the
articles at the time of how shocked BYU fans were that he was hired as the head
So Eddie,You don't like my comparisons do you. Too bad, I make good
money doing them. I believe it was you who implicated Chow looked too old to do
the job. I believe you said he looked too tired as well. Do you feel that way
about all older people or do you just like to rip on Chow? Yea, and Patton
slapped a kid early in the war and then apologized. He went on to assist
General Eisenhower in winning the war. I hope you have or will do something so
esteemed for your country. The point is a lot of older people have a lot to
offer and just because they may have had a set back or two does not mean they
can't achieve greatness. You made light of my comparison but it is perfect.
Patton had a set back and went on to victory. Chow has had a set back but there
is every indication so far that he can move on to great things even if he looks
old and tired to you.
Glad the Utes can still get a recruit even if it might be just temporarily. After a mediocre season this fall it might be difficult to get any
quality recruits unless they are fleeing LA like this kid. Maybe if you make the
LA Bowl you might attract some local kids.Still need a QB though
don't ya? Duckhunter is spot on. quack quack, crickets etc.
i like norm chow's sweater. i think i'll get one.
Good old sammyg and duckhunter, we can always count on them trolling the Utah
articles spewing negativity and hatred, poor lost souls. I for one am very much
looking forward to this coming football season. Should be awesome, see you guys
at the Red White game in April.Go Utes baby!
butters from South Park I agree on the sweater, or hoodie, whatever
you want to call it. Maybe the Red Zone store in Sandy has it. Although I think
the campus store has a much better and bigger selection of stuff.
These comments are hilarious! Some of you have way too much time on your
Seeing Norm Chow in a Ute sweater feels like seeing your old house after the new
owners have moved in. It's weird and unnatural. Sorry, but it is.

I'm not sure sure that Chow is a certain good luck charm. His last years with
the Y were terrible. His time with the Titans and UCLA were mediocre. Only his
time with USC was a success. I think it remains to be seen if Chow has the magic
to help the U. No gurantees.
@ BlutoDid you really play the High School letter card on me? LOL,
brother. Typical zoob response. My friends and I had a similar exchange in
the Marriot Center a few years ago when our HS athletic prowess was called into
question during a verbal exchange with someone of your ilk. I won't use the
Deseret News comments board as a platform to regale you with my sports resume.
It's embarassing and sad that you even went there.Give the Domanitor
some fist bumps from me for the job he did holding a clipboard for 3 seasons
with the 9'ers.Maybe the Dominator drinks postum instead of coffee?
While reading this string I had to pause for a minute and ask myself a few
questions:"What is the mission of BYU?" "What
is the purpose of a Church sponsored school's sports program?""Why did the Church decide to have BYU's football program go
independent?"Pretty confident the answer to each of those
questions have missionary work and being an example for good to the world are
mixed in there somewhere. Also fairly confident "trashing Utah fans"
and "to bring up examples of why other people aren't as good as us" is
not in the answer. Just a thought.
@SportsCenterLook at Heaps QB rating. Look at Wynn's. Keep in mind
that Jordan Wynn did not play against UNM or UNLV (two games that Heaps did play
in, which propped up his rating). pretty amazing isn't it? Since I personally
know Jordan Wynn, and I know the game of football, no, I would not trade Wynn
for Heaps. Please present an example of Jake Heaps playing well
against a good team, and no the last drive when Utah was in prevent defense does
@ big benDante's lowest level.
I hope norm does a good job for the u. I know that many of us were delighted to
see him leave the Y, but he has had brief success at some of his stops. With
great players he does well, not so much with average joes.
Just wait until his passes start coming, or not coming, from Wynn. So far,
Wynn's favorite target is the sidelines. Enjoy the bottom of the
