At this point it should be pretty clear that Facemyer is the 1A MVP. I can't
recall the last time I've seen a triple-double in region 18. This kid is
special; plain and simple! Can't wait to see if Facemyer and company can
pull off the upset vs WA!
I'm sorry but I'm just not that impressed with a triple-double against mediocre
competition at best. If he can pull one off friday night against WA, then I
will be impressed. Thing is, either of WA guards could end up doing it friday
night , can't wait for that game.
A triple double at any level in high school is pretty impressive. In fact, it
might even be more impressive if it was done in less time. I wasn't there, but
I'd be willing to bet Facemyer didn't play the whole game beings that they were
up by 40 and 11 guys scored.I'm pretty stoked for Friday's game...the
talent of WA vs the experience of Liahona's seniors. It's gonna be a good one. I
say WA by single digits
Hey "1ahoopsfan" it's pretty clear from your comments on other blogs
that you don't like Liahona or their players. Cut these kids and their team a
little slack. They've played a non-region schedule against more 2A and 3A teams
than any other 1A school, and Facemyer is at the top of almost every category
there is. As for your comment that either WA guard could drop a triple double on
Liahona Friday night, come on, at least recognize the quality of the Liahona
guards. I don't think there is any way Liahona is going to knock off WA on
Friday night, but I do think we're going to see some of the best guards in all
high school ball, not just 1A, when these two schools meet.
Hey 1Afan I agree that you will see some of the best guard play on Friday when
Liahona plays WA. But I would take the WA over the Liahona any day of the week.
As far as cutting them some slack, they get more press then any 1A team. And WA
schedule is tougher than Liahonas.
I'll go even farther and say I would take Facemyer and Nichols over Skeete and
Anuilis every day of the week. Their senior leadership and ability to do way
more than score are just incredible. They hold the edge over WA when it comes to
guards. It's the rest of the team that will make the difference. WA has the edge
in the frontcourt with Krajacic and their two big guys. Coaching is a wash (both
seem to have great coaching staffs), so the fact WA is at home gives them the
There's no doubt, these articles on Liahona's epic battles with less talented
foes are irrelevant to everyone except Liahona. They also represent a
pretentious and curiously family oriented pat-on-the-back for their players.
BUT,.. they do offer WA and Liahona fans a forum to exchange spirited sports
banter without other people complaining about us dominating the conversation.
So, keep 'em coming and I'll continue to read them and chuckle
I do not respect a triple-double by a player on a recruited 1A squad over a
small town Tintic team from Eureka and surrounding area. If Facemyer was one of
the best guards in the state, why doesn't he attend a bigger school in Utah
County and test himself instead of beating up on weaker 1A schools? I also hope
one of the Region 20 teams can knock around both Liahona and Wasatch Academy.
Sounds like WA Dad is getting his feelings hurt because his son and his team
aren't getting enough pub. As far as why Facemyer isn't playing at PG or
Timp, that's a good question. Anyone know the answer to that? The first time I
saw him was at an AAU tournament I was at to watch my grandson (who was playing
for Timpview). He had somewhere between 20-30 points and totally dominated the
5A guards they were playing. I can't remember the team, but my grandson told me
they were 5A. He ended the game with a 25 foot 3-pointer as time expired to win
the game. The kid can play against anybody and is a legit small college recruit.
Why are you attacking WAdad, sounds like you should be attacking TCnewsie, he
made the comment about Facemyer playing at a small school.
A triple double is hard to get at any level of play, and yeah it may have been
easier to get against a lower level team, but how many do you see getting
accomplished? Can't we appreciate what the kid has done and repect him for
it. I don't neccessarily agree with how or why the teams of WA and
Liahona have been developed. They are excelling and people what to tear them
down. The kids can play and their game this week should be very interesting. I
for one wish that I could make it to the game. Nothing better than a clash
between #1 and #2. Should be a good one.
Coachp44--Thank you! I haven't seen this kid play and know very little about
his team, but a triple double is an accomplishment, regardless. I really don't
understand the tendency for many people on this board to try to tear a kid/team
down. Just because he happens to play 1A level ball, does that mean we can't
congratulate him for what he accomplished?
Great accomplishment! A triple-double's a rare feat. We can't take anything away
from Facemeyer. I do wish he was playing against bigger schools though. My AAU
team used to feast on these smaller schools at tournaments. But it sounds like
he's done his fair share of beating up on "bigger schools".
