I am not a Utahn but I believe that Utah is the worlds best hope for government.
That is why I hope they will address some important issues. What is the proper
role of government? Is it just to unfetter the secret hand of capitalism? Is
public education or public health proper concerns of government or should these
be relegated solely to the private sector? Is charity to be practiced by private
individuals and institutions only or should the government show charity in
legislation? Governor Herbert says True charity comes from each of us reaching
out a hand to help our neighbor, not from the overreaching hand of
government." Elder Uchtdorf says in his prayer Bless all who have been
elected by the people of this great state of Utah ... with wisdom and integrity,
with courage and foresight, and with kindness and charity to all." Is there
contrast here? Should Mormons observation And the people began to be
distinguished by ranks, according to their riches and their chances for
learning; yea, some were ignorant because of their poverty, and others did
receive great learning because of their riches be ignored when funding for
education is considered?
When I saw the title "Must be lawmaking season" my first thought was
"wonder who got arrested this year?"
What an excellent article! My dad is a rep as well, and has been since 2002.
They work very hard serving us as a state, and try to keep everyone in their
best interest. My kids and I enjoy our weekly visits to the capital to visit my
dad, and to get the candy from the men in the green coats. We are very blessed
to live in shuch a wonderful state, where our represenatives do keep the public
To bad one political party has total domination of our state. What this year, a
bill to exterminate wolves from the planet, declare Utah a United Nations free
zone, give 12 a twelve year old a right to drive in rural Utah. A law
requiring everyone to carry a loaded gun. How about Utah seceding from the
Union. I know I am being cynical. I just wish they would listen to the people
instead Gayle Ruzicka and her self righteous Eagle Forum.
Great article and so insightful.Regardless of what state or democratic
country where anyone can run for an office, no one ever gets into politics to do
harm. We may not agree with everyone, that is why we have the right to vote and
choose who will represent us but in the end the majority vote wins.I just
ran for parliament, I did not win but I do not feel like a loser, I gave the
voters a choice and appreciate every vote that I received. I believe my
opponent will do the his best job possible for our electorate
