"YOU BETCHA" as Sarah Palin would say, We'll miss you McKay Coppins. I write
this as a patriot, a taxpayer, a lifelong resident and as concerned citizen of
what I consider to be the greatest nation ever known to man, the United States
of America. Our capitalist system guarantees that those who explore new worlds
and bring us new products and better techniques are amply rewarded for their
efforts, and this is as it should be. Am I calling you a socialist Mr. Obama?
Yes, I am. I firmly believe that you are a socialist and a globalist, and that
you think America should have a comeuppance and have our playing field leveled
to match those of other countries not as industrious or as innovative as we are.
You and your party have corrupted duly elected officials in an effort to get
your legislative agenda passed. Remember the "Louisiana Purchase" and the
"Cornhusker Kickback," and that's just a couple we know about, but you bought
off a bunch of congressmen and senators, knowing that you were going against the
will of the majority of Americans. Like all liberal's do.
The D-New's best columnist gets poached by NewsWeek. I guess we can all throw
moderation out the window now.
You will be missed Brother Coppins. I don't think anyone can blame you for
advancing your career by going to Newsweek Magazine. Your well thought out and
liberal slant will be sorely missed here.
McKay,You will be sorely missed. Yours is one of the few regular
columns that I make it a point to read.Given your age, I have been
quite surprised at the depth of your analysis and general maturity (hope that is
not a backhanded compliment — it’s certainly not meant as one).Newsweek is getting a gem. I hope you have some great experiences
there. I will have to start checking out Newsweek to see what you do.Best wishes and regards,
I wish you luck on your promotion. Not very many writers from Utah newspapers
are of the caliber that they could work for Newsweek. Congratulations are in
Hopefully you will be able to help Newsweek put a positive spin on our Church.
I think this is a great opportunity for you to let the world know more about who
we are as a people and a religion.Just think of the opportunity for
good you now have McKay Coppins. Newsweek has a worldwide readership in the
millions. What better way to really educate the world about the LDS faith.
This is a tremendous blessing.
Even though I will miss your articles, I think this will be a good thing.
Anytime an LDS is in a position to reach millions of people worldwide, this is a
positive thing. Newsweek is printed in Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian,
Spanish, Rioplatense Spanish, Arabic, etc. Mckay now has an opportunity to
reach the far corners of the world each week with his column. Good luck and
make us proud.
I'm not very familiar with newsweek other than I know it is considered very
prestigious in the world of journalism and it is considered very liberal. I'm
glad Mormons will have a voice in that magaizine now. When you when that
PUlitzer Prize don't forget about us and who gave you your first start.
Good job, McKay. Your articles here have been appreciated and the subjects were
excellent. You will do a great deal of good at Newsweek. Good luck!
All good things must come to an end. Bless you and your family as you move on
to bigger and better things.
I hope this didn't have anything to do with downsizing. I can think of many
other columns that should go before this one.
Its good Newsweek doesn't know that they have got in hiring you--or they never
would have done it. And that is meant in the nicest possible way.
You will be a great "secret weapon".We'll sorely miss
you McKay, at the the Des News, and your refreshing take on things. I sometimes wonder at some of my fellow LDS brothers and sisters--those whose
extreme Right, vitriolic, caustic, contentious views cause me to shudder. You've been a welcome voice of reason. Thanks, good luck,
and we hope to hear more from you--as a guest writer at the Des News--and in
Newsweek. (You had a lot of Holland-esk lines in several of your articles, by
the way. Looking forward to more.)
Mckay are you truly a Mormon Liberal? I meet very few real Mormon
Liberals,(tolerant of other views) which is somewhat a contradiction of terms.
My wife is truly a Mormon liberal we can hardly go to Walmart without someone
saying Hi,because they know her from releif society. Her views are liberal on
heaven all go,or salvation by death. Women should hold the priesthood and does
not take the BoM as literal, but the real liberal tie-breaker is, she does not
beleive Joseph Smith is a prophet.
Congrats. I just may have to resume the Newsweek subscription I let go last
