We miss ya at the Stampede but are so glad to have you on the Jazz!!!!! Way to
go...welcome to the big show!!
Credit to Sloan for admitting he got it wrong playing Ak off the bench. The man
is our best defender and is getting max money so it only makes sense to use him
as much as we can.Pity though Koufos is being sent back to the
Flash. Why not develop the guy by giving him minutes when he can. Same with Fez.
How can Sloan expect them to come in and play well when they are not getting the
exposure every young player needs to develop and improve their game. They get no
confidence shown in them and are regularly called out in the media by Coach. Bad
people skills if ever i've seen it.C'mon Jerry, give it away, we'll
still remember you..
It's fun when they win and Boozer leads out like he actually cares. WHen he
goes to the hole strong, he's very hard to stop; just ask Tim Duncan about his
experience with Boozer last week. As Boozer goes, so go the Jazz. Any chance
he can keep it up foro the rest of the season?
I am thrilled that Koufos will finally get some minutes. That will
toughen him up for real game times. Playing in the D league will help make up
for 3 years of NCAA that he passed up to get into the NBA. He should have been
playing there for the past 3 months though in order to catch up. Not very
likely he will catch up in the next 80 days.Nice to sign gaines.
The team with the best record now has 2 d-leaguers playing for them so we can
easily afford a good d-leaguer to help us out.
Agree totally with the Mailman. We are wasting KK, but he will play well with
the flash, just as he would have if he was given minutes with the Jazz. We are
making a big mistake, if we dont have KK in our plans. He is the combo big we
need, who can play along side anyone. Jerry, hate to say it, but you are
Wow, could not disagree more related to Koufos...he looks out of place, clumsy,
and just needs some time to grow in the D-league. Can't understand why many
Jazz fans are so big on this guy...
Players are developed in practice not games, pactice is when you get all the
reps not games, the only thing that game helps you with is confidence in all
those reps you take in practice. That is just the way the NBA is all the way
down to High School. It would be hard for a coach to develope a 20 year old kid
like Kosta during games, yea i know it gives them the seasoning that they need
but man you are right up there he still should be playing a O state. We as fans think that its still the 80's and early 90's when most players
stayed in colleage for 4 years, its not thats why these guys like KK and miles
strugle with confidence. Well there are some exceptions out there but for a
middle of the road talent kids should stay for 4 years, thats why Gains, Maynor
and Mathews give solid play.
Our memories seem to be very short when it comes to Kosta. When he came here
his rookie season, all we heard was that he worked extreemly hard to make
himself better. He was early to practice and stayed late. Last year Jerry did
use him more and was impressive in some games. How has Jerry rewarded him this
year. Because he did not play summer ball Jerry has buried him on the bench.
Even in blowouts he was given no time on the floor. Finally he gets in a game
and commits four turnovers, and people say, see Jerry knew what he was doing. I
have a different take. Jerry has torn the heart out of this kid. Destroyed his
incentive to work hard. He is so nervous now when he gets in a game. I am
happy he is going to the D league. He needs someplace to regain his confidence,
and skills in real game situations. I wish him the best and continue to hope
for a coaching change.
Dose this mean were signing someone better than Kosta? He was walking all over
the place the other night!
All you hear about is how hard of worker this kid is and you would think that
Jerry would try to find minutes here or there for him. Jerry says he is getting
better but he played more last year. It just seems to me that Jerry is so set in
his ways, when it comes to minutes, time outs and players etc. I think if Jerry
were more flexible, he would look at matchups and game situations where he can
get his young bigs in the game more even if it's only 5 minutes here or there.
There have been a number of times when he could have left in Booz,
AK, Deron or Memo to play with the young guys at the end of the ball game if he
was worried about losing the lead. Do you always have to throw all your scrubs
out there at one time at the end Jerry? If that is the case, then of course you
wouldn't do it until there was about a minute to go.Let Koufos stay
in the D-league if you aren't going to play him. Maybe he will improve there....
@rabbit-good point. It's clear that if koufus was under contract to go to the
summer league that he would've been there, and if sloan is disciplining
koufus-which we have reason to believe he is doing, then sloan is wrong for that
kind of punishment. Especially by placing a restriction on the one thing that
will make koufus a better player, sloans punishment is costing the jazz more
than whatever the value of sloans agenda is. Koufus is under contract, why have
him under contract to not use him? THis is managment of the front offices
decision to invest in koufus. So, its little surprise that when koufus
finally gets into a game and he is a little soft. The d-league will be good
experience if it toughens him up. SO yeah, at the time, it makes sloan look
right, and everyone can say koufus isn't good, because sloan can arrange things
to appear that he is smart/good coach, sloan will run koufus career into the
ground this way because koufus can't do anything but wonder why he is sitting on
the bench for a reason that sloan doesn't explain
I was at the Nets game. Tell me something. If Kosta Koufos can't hold his
ground against an 3-39 Nets team when the Jazz have a 40 point lead, how on
Earth does that merit more playing time? He has nerves of jelly. He couldn't
hold a pivet; three straight plays, he turned the ball over because they fed him
the ball just outside the paint and he stumbled. That's fundamental ball.
That's not lack of minutes in games. He desperately needs some D-League time to
learn to control his nerves.
Why don't we trade Memo and Miles for Amare? That way if Amare walks we have
time for Jazz bigs to develop next season and also have some money to extend
Boozer's contract? What do you all think?
Kosta playing badly has nothing to do with Sloan, and last year he played more
becuase of the injuries to the bigs on the team. Kosta is only 20 years old, he
is a kid of course he is going to be nervous going into a game, I heard Drew
Brees the other day say he was nrevous about playing in the playoffs like he is
before every game. Slaon has not ruined this kid, he is not ruined he is just a
kid. As for playing him more, well its easy for us to say what a coach should do
as we sit on our couch, everyone is a great coach in their own living room.Yea maybe this kid could have been used different but he hasnt and its
not becuase he didnt play summer ball. He is aproject that will work out hehas
the talent, and dont give me Jerry has torn his heart out, young players rarely
play in the NBA unless they are great......
As a 7 footer (listed), Kosta Koufos has not owned solid low post moves. It is
very hard to develop low post moves, even Dwight Howard has not owned it for so
many years in the NBA. In NJ, I watch Brook Lopez in his rookie year doing
nothing much but low post moves. He tried to post-up in nearly every possession.
Now he is an inside threat for the Nets, a legitimate C in the NBA that a team
can build around.I hope our 7-footers, Fess and Kosta, can develop
solid low post moves in the D-league first. It is much harder to post-up against
defenders in the NBA than in the D-league. Since Kosta is going to the Flash, he
should take the chance to develop and polish his his post-up skills and moves.
Would probably say: "Andre pulled his head out lately and that makes my
decision to bring him off the bench look pretty stupid. But given time, I'm
sure he'll bounce up and down again! That's who he is - we'll just enjoy the
ride for now!"
Well committing successive turnovers, travelling calls doesn't help KK's case.
Got to take advantage of the minutes given especially during garbage time to
showcase your talent and why you got drafted by the Jazz inorder to impress the
coaches. But coming in unprepared will earned you a trip to the D League. Just
look at Wes Matthews when he comes in, he is ready and on the flow of the game.
KK on the other hand looks lost out there, just my observation and everyone
Everybody rips on Sloan for not giving Koufos minutes, but does anybody ever
notice that the guy gets about 6 fouls in every 7 minutes of play? How can you
give him minutes, when 1 - his minutes hurt the team because of his
ridiculous fouls.2 - He fouls out of the game in 7 minutes and
accomplishes nothing during that time anyway. The guy has to learn to
stay on the court before Sloan can opt to leave him on the court. Why
is everyone so ready to bash on Sloan for every little thing that is or isn't
his fault this year?
What planet do you live on?Evidently they don't play basketball
there.Koufus was a pile of turnovers, fouls, and generally looked
lost when he played the other night.Who are you going to bench, and
jeopardize wins, to put on the floor to play Koufus instead?I hope
he develops as much as anyone but could it be any more apparent he is not ready
now?Putting him out there now just destroys his confidence and
jeopardizes our current chemistry and wins.Sometimes I wonder about
the average Jazz fan that demonstrats such little basketball IQ.
Jerry doesn't play rookies?Tell that to Millsap and Matthews.Players who deserve to play and earn minutes usually get them. You can't bench a 10 million dollar player who is clearly better just to
"give" these clutsy college big men some minutes though. Please apply
some logic.Koufus looked awful the other night. He needs
minutes in the D-league. That is why the coaches are sending him there...so he
can get some minutes and develop.
Gaines made it so he gets the contract.Good for him--hopefully we
don't end up needing alot of minutes from him though.D-Will is
starting to roll.
NO WE DONT WANT AMA'RE. You think Boozer's defense is bad...
Agreed. Add Brewer, Gaines, and DWill to that list. KK, prepare to be a
How does Gaines feel knowing that AK makes almost as much in one game as he will
make all year.
