A woman against feminism... has someone informed this woman she can
I thought this know-it-all complainer was long dead! Welcome back to life.
I'm not a huge fan of the Eagle Forum or of Ms. Schlafy but you have to agree
the woman does not "put her finger in the wind" and test the political waters
before stating her viewpoint. She is consistent. Id much rather have a Phyllis
Schlafy than a weak kneed politician who wants to maintain their power at all
costs or hypocrites like Al Sharpton or ACORN who are lining their own pockets.
That is great we have a woman coming to Utah to talk about how them having
rights and being treated equally is bad. Naturally the eagle Forum will be the
Because of her, and people like her, women are still legally second-class
citizens. She worked a serious detriment to women's rights. I wish she would
just crawl back into the hole from which she came.
I am not in favor of all the things the Eagle formum comes out against or for,
but they are promoting, overall good principles, and if
they want to endorse Cherilyn Eagar, fine, as Eagar is the best candidate as far
as I am concerned.
I agree that you don't have to be a huge fan of Eagle Forum to be a fan of
Cherilyn Eagar.I believe that Cherilyn Eagar is the only one running
who has supported and been active in fighting for conservative values for the
last 30 years at the local, state, national and international level. [That
Yep, second class citizens like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (and who was
also a candidate for President), etc. etc. etc.It is great to have
women (and men) of character and strength who stand up for what they believe in
rather than sell their vote for power, or to line their own pockets.
This just shows the ignorance of those who don't know who Phyllis Schlafly is or
what she has protected for women's rights. Just read some of these comments of
ignorance. Without Phyllis and the Eagle Forum, we would have "no
fault" divorce (which is like saying we don't care if the man cheated on the
woman, we'll not judge him). How about the rights of children when
deadbeat "Dads" fail to make alimony payments? Phyllis was on top of this
legislation.More than anything else, she is a family first woman who
has held together not only the Conservative rights of the family, but also those
of women in general.Phyllis was a good friend and advocate of Ronald
Reagan and was very helpful in getting legislation passed for the family. That
is why I feel blessed to have her come to Utah and campaign for Cherilyn Eagar.
You GO girl. You're the only one who can represent the women's rights issues.
She teamed up with liar Jerome Corsi and perpetuated the myth/threat of a "North
American Union,"--similar to the European Union where Canada, the U.S. and
Mexico would share a currency. She also called for the impeachment
of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy because he voted to abolish the death
penalty for minors. She believes by getting married, woman don't
have a right to say no to their husband's "needs."
Sad when an 85 year woman with values can get people's underwear all tied up in
knots and make them jump on a blog to make uninformed remarks.
To Carol E. I am a college educated women(MA Education and Law Degree). I choose to stay home with my children at this point in my life but will
return to work when the timing is right for me. I earned the same as my male
counterparts when I worked. I practice my religion freely, exercise
my freedom of speech, vote my conscience, determine how family finances are
managed, drive a car, volunteer at organization of my choosing including
providing pro-bono legal aid to people in need.I am not subjected to
domestic violence and would not tolerate it if I were. I am not
required to wear a bonnet or veil or walk three steps behind my husband.I can run for political office and even have to right to make offensive,
grammatically incorrect, statements such as yours, "She worked a serious
detriment to women's rights. I wish she would just crawl back into the hole from
which she came". There is no woman I wish would crawl back into a hole because
they may not share my life views.
Just because you do not agree with Ms. Schlafly's position there is no need to
use such vitriolic statements again an 85 year old woman who is still fighting
for the things she beleives are right. Why would you think for one minute that
she had spent her life trying to undermine the rights of women? She fought to
allow women to make conservative choices instead of having to be a sheep and
follow the left wing feminists. Why can we not allow all women to make their
own choices, whatever they may be and whether we may agree with them or not?You and other like you are the problem for women, because you use hatred
and nasty language to label those you differ from you instead of allowing each
woman to embrace her own lifestyle.
It is amazing to me that when the liberal left have no constructive or inforned
dialogue to contribute they engage in personal attacks and uncivil diatribes.
Civility is free and harms no-one and might even contribute to some level of
That's easy. If she had truly supported the rights of women, she would never
have opposed the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA siimply said "Equality of
rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by
any state on account of sex." That gives women the opportunity to make their
own choices, whatever they may be and whether we may agree with them or not.
Schlafly, by oppposing the ERA, tried to limit the right of women to equality
under the law. Hence, she worked to undermine the right of women.BTW -- I'm not a "left wing feminist". I'm a Goldwater conservative. I also
have a Juris Doctor (law degree). To "Women's Rights | 1:16 p.m." -- I'm one of
the women who worked in the trenches for equal rights for women so you can have
the life you're living now. You apparently never faced the lack of rights that
I had to deal with. Just say "thank you" now to me, and don't criticize me
until you've walked a mile in my shoes and dealt with the conditions I faced as
a young adult.
Does anyone actually care who this woman endorses? Does anyone actually think
that her endorsement means anything? And who is Cherilyn Eager? Has anyone
outside of this fringe group ever heard of her?
I am 47 years old, the mother of six children, 2 still at home. I would not
have thanked you for suporting the ERA. I would also have voted against the ERA
and obviously it was not needed as I have been been able to acheive my goals
without it as have many other women. I did have to work hard, be very organized
and ready to accept citicism l because I gave birth and raised children during
my college and law school days. I did this by my choice, but I had a supportive
spouse who did more than his share. Interesting enough most of the criticism can
from feminist women not from men. It was my stay at home sisters who helped me
acheive my goals when I need extra help. I am sorry you had such a struggle to
obtain your rights.
Thanks for your work, but do you really have to cram it down "Women's Rights'"
throat like that? Sounds pretty bitter and somewhat like a parent saying "I had
to walk in the snow uphill five miles each way." It's rhetoric and
bitterness like this that gets in the way whenever we bring up sex or race or
nationality. I realize that we can't hide under a hole, but we are so close to
realizing a gender-blind society (equal pay, equal rights, equal access for
women are all realities or nearly realities) that I worry to see this kind of
vitriol still spewed out on either side of the issue. Are we totally
there yet? Nope. Are we closer than ever? Definitely. However, by making this a race about gender, I'm afraid that Cherilyn Eagar
may be in danger of painting herself into a corner and stigmatizing her whole
campaign. We saw it with Hilary Clinton. We saw it with McCain when he chose
Sarah Palin. She is a qualified, capable candidate. She should steer
as far away from this topic as possible and just campaign on the merits.
You sound so bitter, aren't you pleased by the advances women have made over the
last 30 years or so? Are you angry because we have made those advances and
women are choosing paths in life that you are offended by? Equality is supposed
to about each woman reaching for her own dreams and achieving them. However,
each woman's dream is different, some pursue education and the professional
world, others choose to be stay-at-home mothers and yet others choose to do
both. Can't we respect the choices of others and cheer them on their way,
whether we agree with them or not? It is a sad world when we as women disparage
each other. Feminists seem only to be pleased when the choices are liberal
ones, such as support for abortion. Can't you accept that many women do not
support these choices and respect us anyway?
Progressive text books and news outlets have re-written history. I was on the
front lines and in the trenches in Illinois standing at the microphone opposing
Bella Abzug’s progressive agenda. The Equal Rights Amendment was no
more about treating women fairly than the health care bill is about health care.
It’s all about money and government control. It was more about Leftist
community organizers deliberately manipulating masses of women who blamed
government, men and society for doing them wrong instead of simply ignoring the
inequities and succeeding. We lost more than we gained.Women, you have
what you have today not because of the ERA (it failed), government or the
feminist movement. You have what you have today because of who you are. It is
your strength, your intelligence, your determination to achieve whatever you
want to achieve that has made the difference. Government policy can never
remove that glass ceiling that even I face as the first Republican woman to run
for U.S. Senate in Utah. That is something that can be lifted only from the
heart. Come to the reception, and we'll tell you all about it.
What you wrote is truly pathetic, and absolutely not true. You have just proven
that you are not qualified to by a U.S. Senator (or any type of representative).
Please -- get a clue. You sorely need one.
So you state that the comments of the previous poster are untrue but do not
offer one shred of evidence to support your objection. Instead you just make a
personal attack on the individual. How much credibility does that
give to you? None.If you have an argument, make it. We'll be
Even without the ERA, we predicted correctly that if the feminist agenda
prevailed, it would remove by piecemealed legislation special protections that
women once had in the deceptive name of "equality." It was self-evident that
divorce would rise through "no fault" laws accompanied by rising poverty for
single mothers and children, severely damaging the family and society. And it
has.As a single mother for a short time, I do have a clue. We are blessed
to live in a great land where even conservative women such as Sarah Palin can
achieve their goals and dreams. Only 17 women are in the Senate. Four
are Republican. Two vote like Democrats and the other two voted for the
bail-out. Voting by gender isn’t the point. A conservative woman will
offset the liberal feminists who have silenced some good men on the social
issues, which comprise 50% of the budget. Why was Michele Bachmann front and
center? Because the majority of voters who make health care decisions are
women, wives and mothers. When a conservative woman shows up in a room of
feminists, the argument is neutralized. We’re their worst nightmare.
Phyllis Schlafly is a true Patriot and an American Hero.Cherlyn
Eager is the best candidate for the US Senate. I am not a member of the Eagle
Forum (yet) but they are right on the money on most issues. With Cherilyn, it
is not about womens rights but about our rights under God and the Constitution
of the United States of America. She understands the issues. Vote for her, I
