Everyone always claims Greg Ostertag's long deal with the Jazz was the worst
ever, but it doesn't compare to AK's. He's the most overpaid worthless player in
the league. His contract alone is why the Jazz are in trouble because he's not a
Top 100 player and hold the Jazz back from getting the pieces needed to compete.
He will go down in history and the biggest dead weight in Jazz history.
miles should be at the top of the "to trade" list, with all that "potential and
upside" he should be easy to unload
I'm tired of watching this Jazz team struggle.
If the Jazz don't do anything, and just gets some garbage D-Leaguer, I'm done
with them for the year. Maybe next year...
Why do the Jazz always sit on their hands and never make these rumors a
reality?!?! Each year since D-Fish has left, we have been in a steady decline
without making any effort to upgrade. But we will trade Maynor to a division
rival (to cut cost) when they could've traded Koufus to them instead and keep
Maynor. Since Larry would be flipping out right now and we would not see this
roster if he was still around.
If everybody on the Utah Jazz's roster not named Deron Williams is potential
trade bait, as a new "Yahoo! Sports" report suggests, that is certainly news to
the team's coach."I agree--Deron should be on the list too--with all
his pathetic turnover!!He is piling up his stats to make the allstar
game for himself meanwhile his own team and team mates are floundering around
him and not improving their games. Is that what a leader is supposed
to do?Deron has most of the same talent except they are supposedly a
few years better and less injuries than last year and yet where is Deron leading
them?Deron our supposed untouchable leader has them on pace to LOSE
MORE GAMES THAN LAST YEAR!!THIS GUY IS NO LEADER. HE OBVIOUSLY CAN
NOT INSPIRE HIS TEAM MATES TO DO ANYTHING BETTER..MANY OF THEM ARE ACTUALLY
REGRESSING UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP. Explanations?
They should get rid of Kiralinko. HE doesnt do anything productive. The sad part
is that nobody wants him because he doesnt do anything. Hopefully the jazz can
make ti through this year...and get rid of Boozer...then next year...and get rid
of Kirelinko, and then finally we will have some money to spend on players that
are a little more productive.
to trade KOC and greg miller places since apparently any trades that happen he
must be made aware of.
i would just take the salary cap relief at the end of the year. As far as AK
goes, if there is anyway we could get Tmacs expiring contract and throw in a CJ
and Kfes to make it match, I would do it in a heartbeat.
It's true, AK has been awful this year. If anyone will take him off of our
hands for an exp. deal, by all means PLEASE do it!
Agreed. And I used to hate fans that said stuff like that. I'll still be a fan, I love the Jazz, but its just not worth my time to watch
the games anymore. I'm really sad about it.
The Jazz made a huge mistake in signing AK to his huge contract, now they can't
unload him. Boozer is overpaid a little as well, so we can't get rid of him. So
here is the reality. We have to give up alot of potential such as Miles,
Matthews,Price, Brewer, Fez or Koufous to unload AK or Boozer. So if the Jazz
make a deal, it will appear very lopsided. In the long run they need to get a
trade done and hope that taking chances on some younger guys works out.
"You lose a couple of games..." Sloan says this in the final paragraph of this
article. He is oversimplyfing this. I believe I speak for a large number of
Jazz fans when I say we know that the Jazz will lose games. It is how you "pick
your poison." The effort is awful and the urgency non-existent. I was there on
Saturday. I was happy with one player: Ronnie Price. He showed guts and
determination. He was on the floor half the time he was out there. The last,
say ten games, have been awful to watch. Jerry Sloan is too stuck in his ways,
but the players are cancer. Get rid of all but the following: Williams, Price,
Matthews. Could care less about anyone else.
The Jazz also overpaid for Millsap and could have had David Lee (who is much
better BTW) for the same price. One mistake after another.
Um Jerry, it's not just a few games that are causing everyone to consider
trades... It's been the play of your team over the past 3 years. In case you
haven't noticed, your team has regressed. In case you haven't noticed, you have
the highest payroll in the entire league. In case you haven't noticed, you're
currently one game out of the playoffs and only one game out of being in 11th
place. Why would Greg Miller pay the Luxury Tax for a lottery team?
MADRYBEG - can we add Jerry Sloan to the 'get rid of' list? You
cannot be successful when you use the same plays for years.
indicate the following net points by position. PG +4.0, SG -2.0, SF -2.5, PF +
2.0, C +.4. Compared to the output of the teams the Jazz have played
so far the SG and SF positions are getting fewer points than they are allowing.
The strength of the team is the PG and PF positions. That is by
design. The Jazz need bigger net from those positions or they need better
shooting/defense from the wings (SG/SF). The Jazz are supposed to be
an inside team but the percentage of shots taken inside is almost identical to
opponents. The inside offense is not working but at this point the Jazz are not
an inside team. The other stat that stands out is TOs from bad
passes. That is really high. The Sloan motion offense is disrupted in the
passing. More NBA teams are changing defenses to ones that are more
effective against inside (used to be) teams like the Jazz. The Jazz
have to become better at outside shooting or get the inside offense to work. Getting a wing or 2 who can shoot would fix some problems. Change the offense to eliminate TOs.
Andrei KirlenkoUnless you became a fan of the Utah Jazz in the last
three years, do not complain about the Andrei Kirlenko contract. Andrei had a
phenomenal year the last year of his previous contract, and every Utah fan
wanted him on the team. Utah paid no more than market value for him at that
time.Complain about his lack of effort or his hair style if you
like, but we were all in favor of signing him to a new contract.
Get rid of Matthews! He's the cancer that started the team to go bezerk!
I think its about time to let O'connor go. He is one of a few that are still
with the Jazz and we are still not a top-notch franchise. He makes a lot of the
decisions and paychecks and we need some fresh faves.
Trade for Andre Igudola. Fire Sloan...Hire Hornancek
Actually the Jazz couldn't have signed David Lee. You can go over the salary
cap to sign a player already on your team like they did with Millsap, but they
couldn't have signed David Lee (a player not already on their team) because they
were already over the cap. Nice try though GM. That being said, they should
have let Millsap go.
Is today opposite day? You just said to get rid of the one guy who plays 100%
all the time and overachieves. Please tell me you were being sarcastic!
You so called fans really don't have a clue.Kirilenko probably rates
as one of the top 12 players in Jazz history. So what if he's overpaid. So is
everyone else in the NBA. Millsap could put up decent numbers if he
was ever allowed to play more then half the game. He showed that last season
when Boozer was out of the lineup.Taking the salary cap relief
at the end of the season would probably be the smartest thing you could do with
Boozer at this point since your probably not going to get equal value in a
trade. Every team with a brain SHOULD include there respective coach
when adding or subtracting any players to the roster. It's only common sense.
Deron is a warrior who plays to win every game. You can see it on
his face every night. Nobody wants to win more then he does on this team.
Anybody who thinks otherwise is clueless. People who are blaming D-Will for the
Jazz play of late need to come back to reality. I hate to think where this
franchise would be right now without him.
@Floyd Johnson - Thank you for finally bringing some reason to the Andrei
Kirilenko argument. I was here when it was time to extend his contract, I was
listening to sports radio. Jazz fans were very vocal about wanting to keep him
and to sign him to that deal. This was post Malone/Stockton and pre
Boozer/Williams. The Jazz had to give him that contract and if they hadn't he
would have gotten it elsewhere. I get sick watching him play now and I'd love to
unload him, but at the time it was absolutely the right move.
your on point. We all wanted AK when his contract was up and we payed market
value. he then got moved to a new position and was not as good. AK was awesome
at pf cause he can block shots and beat any pf in the league of the dribble. he
is not a sf, he is a pf. so maybe once we get rid of half our team, we will put
him back at pf. also, he played better then anyone else last night. so jazz
fans, dont hate on ak cause he got paid.about our team, blow it up.
everyone but dwill and milsap should be on the block, but the only people that
we can move are loozer, brewer, goofy koofy, okur, korver the worst, and miles.
we need to do something now. there is no reason to over pay for a team that
does not care at all. Sloan, your the man but you time is up. we
need a change now.
Trade Matthews? Just wow. When Matthews is on the floor, good things happen.
Do you even watch the Jazz?
Speak for yourself! I never thought he was worth the money when they signed him
to the big contract. While I liked his effort years ago, I never felt he was
worth the money due to his lack of offensive production and shooting ability. He
is the type of player I thought he would be and that is undeserving of the money
@what would larry do - they could have traded Koufos? Why would any other team
want Koufos? Everyone acts like making trades is so easy and KOC is just a
weenie for not making big trades, forgetting that making a big trade also
requires one or more other consenting teams.
To me, getting cap relief means trading any of the following players: Brewer who
doesn't make much this year (NBA relative) but will take much more to resign
next year, AK who is real tough to trade given his salary this year and next
(AK= big money with far less than equal output), Korver, who might be resigned
for less next year (given unproductivity and injuries) but a significant and
expiring contract nonetheless, Boozer for obvious reasons (like him or not).
Now, Millsap is a stud but a hefty price tag. The Jazz probably won't get
anything near as good in return.I would keep young talent
(potential) with a low price tag to build around. That includes Matthews, Price,
Koufos, and Fez. Maynor fit that bill and I was sad to see him go. If Brewer and
Korver were gone, Price (undersized) could of moved into a backup SG role to
Matthews. Maynor would of stayed behind D-Will and CJ Miles could of stayed at
the SF. The Jazz might not have dropped off as much as some might thimk and they
would of saved cash bigtime. Granted, multiple trades are almost impossible. If the
***team will sign guard Sundiata Gaines from the Idaho Stampede***
Non guaranteed contracts in the NBA. IF it were like the NFL everyone would have
to perform or they don't get paid the full amount.
It's too bad we can't get the news firsthand from our local paper (Des News or
SL Trib), but instead Yahoo sports. What's the point of having reporters if you
just copy other people's investigating?
I agree that sloan and his system are the problem....it cannot be productive
without HUSTLE and TOUGHNESS! UTAH DEM... sorry bro that whole same plays for
years thing have proven to be top notch style for our hall of fame coach for
lotsa years now. Our problems are chemistry, personnel, dedication,
confidence, identity, and alot more but sorry, SLOAN IS NOT OUR PROBLEM! Just
maybe the players don't want to play sloan style and have lost confidence and
are making a point that they want him gone who knows but they definately don't
have heart. Oh no!! I just realized that my Jazz are a replica of
the Yankees philosophy of spend tons of money for players with no heart.
@82games data - The Jazz need to play better team defense. Anyone who slashes
to the basket a lot(usually SG and SF) do well against the Jazz because our team
defense is terrible. I believe Ronnie Brewer and AK are great defenders, but we
don't get enough rotation and help defense. Guys like Devin Brown scoring 30
pts is ridiculous.
You have got to be on the Jazz payroll?? No one else would make such ludicrous
statements... Use your real name next time.
trade ak to a team that will utilize his talent he was great until d-will
decided he to freeze him out instead of sharing
You people are hilarious.
The Jazz and Knicks were trying to work a sign and trade involving Boozer and
Lee, but could have had Lee for one year for much less money than paying Millsap
for a multi-year deal. So do your homework BEFORE you post. Now go deliver
those pizzas they are getting cold.........
Mathews is a thorn? The one guy on the roster who doesn't even make a
million?Get rid of CJ.Since he regained his starting position we all know what
has happened. And everyone do you realize Kirilenko was an allstar the year he
got his contract? What psition did he play then?oh ya PF!!trade Boozer move
Kirilenko back to PF where he can get his blocks, pretty hard to block 3s out on
the perimeter.and i know his value would go back up
Those of you who say just let Boozer go at the end of the season don't get it.
The issue isn't the cap, it's the luxury tax! If we keep Boozer until the end
of the season, we will have to pay the luxury tax. Trading him before the
season will save the team a lot of money. That's why they traded Harpring and
Maynor -- to save money! That trade saved the team about $10 million. Right
now, for the Jazz it's not really about winning. They tried with this group,
realized they won't be better than the eight seed, so they are trying to save
money. That's why you'll see more trades like Harpring/Maynor. They will hurt
the team basketball wise, but help them financially. You watch -- Boozer will
get traded for a second round draft choice or the equivalent before the trade
deadline. It's all about avoiding that luxury tax!
@saintmichaelpray: Didn't the Yankees just win another championship? This team has just become a "Me" first team with Dwill running it.Memo is doing nothing at the 5.Brewer can't hit a jumpshot.AK doesn't know what he is suppose to do.Price shouldn't
even be in the NBACJ doesn't have a clue what Jerry wantsMatthews is the most over-rated Jazz player in historyBoozer is
playing nice because he wants to look like a team player for a fat contract next
yearMillsap looks like a guy who just got a fat contract.
When was the last time the Jazz ever made a trade worth anything? Everyone
needs to stop hoping and realize that status quo means the same coach for 20+
years, a 5-8 playoff seeding, and first round draft picks sitting on the bench
or struggling for a few years until the Jazz get rid of them. NOTHING IS GOING
TO CHANGE AND NO TRADE OF CONSEQUENCE WILL BE MADE. NOW GET BACK TO WORK.
If I were Sloan (anyone can do better), Who will guard Conley with DWILL out.
Start tomorrow Price, put Gaines in fire right away to back Ronnie. Kid might
have some good hops. Matthews Millsap ,Boozer and Fes to start. If Paul has
problem with Gay then insert Brewer. Okur can come in off the bench provide
much critical offense which is needed there, and maybe can get out of his fog
and low clouds//
tank this garbage season and hope for the number one draft pick (likely 'Wall'
from Kentucky). After they draft 'Wall' they need to trade the soft,
turnover-machine (AKA D-Will) away for other picks or a decent center; he is not
a leader. Loozer will be off the books after this year, Brewer too,
'Bum-Knee...er...Korver' also and M-16/"Free-pass" (aka AK-47) won't be far
behind. There would still be a good nucleus even without those
clowns. I think it would be a shame to let Matthews get away, Milsap is
serviceable at the 4 spot, Fes should start over Okur and I think there might
still be hope for CJ.Under this scenario next years' starting
line-up could be:1: Wall2: Matthews3: CJ4:
Milsap5: FesenkoBench: Price, Koufos, AK (final year), Okur,
2nd rd. pick, extra 1st rd. pick (in lieu of D-Will trade) and a mid-level free
agent. This starting lineup is athletic, will play defense, has a
potential shot-blocker and OMG have you seen 'Wall' play??? The dude is a
straight-up killer and a leader! Make this happen Jazz!
Millsap's contract was front loaded. So after this year he is a good deal.
has arrived. jazz mgmt. must address fans. honestly. swiftly. with a specific
plan to address the crisis.otherwise this turns into a PR blunder
bigger than tiger-gate.
AK should be able to play outside the system, especially on defense, Sloan has
been slowing down his ability to constantly disrupt opposing offenses. Then on
offense he should be used more like a point fwd when Dwill is on the bench.
Please get us a new coach. His time is up. Time to retire. Changing the players
will not help with the sloan system.
I get where Jerry is coming from, he is like what 70 years old. I wouldn't want
to have to change anything at this point in the season if I was 70. That would
mean more work teaching his system to new players etc. Keeping Booz on the
roster will probably get you above .500 for the year and maybe the team ends up
being a 7 or 8 seed and Jerry can sign a contract extension next year. Go Jerry,
you got to love your pay check attitude!! On the AK front he was
paid as if he was going to be the central piece that the Jazz were going to
build around, then they signed Carlos and AK hasn't been the same since. Even
Carlos stated publicly that he didn't think AK and him could play on the same
team because they play the same position. AK is in the wrong system with the
wrong coach. I wish the trade to Phoenix would have happened for AK's sake. The
bigger issue is the Jazz have overvalued their own talent that's the main reason
for this mess!!
The problem with the Jazz is that they aren't losing enough. New Jersey has it
figured out. Stop trying to win a conference and start trying to win a
championship. Rebuild through losing (it is the Democratic way). What's a few
years of futility. Of course, you'll have to fire Sloan since there is no way
that guy loses 60+ games.
After what the Jazz have done to AK it's no wonder he isn't getting it done! Put
him in the dang starting lineup and set Boozers lazy butt on the bench. Give AK
40 mins a game and put the pressure back on him. Right now he is just showing up
and with the in decision about starting him and playing time from the coaches
it's no wonder? They play him like they don't expect anything from him?I
never thought I would say this but if you have to trade him DO IT....OR light a
fire under him!
When the Jazz had Fisher they make it to the Western Conference finals...News flash Jazz we need a shooting guard who can SHOOT! and play
defense.I had a good feeling about this year when we didnt resign
collins big body, but this team has problems...About trades I am not
going to even get my hopes up cause they wont change a thing have a good enough
year to not get a good draft pick and lose tons of money...The
players I would trade are Boozer, Korver (sorry girls who love his pink
jerseys), Fez. As for AK lets give him some playing time at PF and see what
happens.Biggest Jazz Problem--- Jerry Sloan and his 30 year old
system. Drop him please
I agree with others here that KOC is working on deals, but making a legit trade
in today's NBA is very difficult. How many teams actually want to take on
payroll? There was maybe one - Oklahoma and that is who the Jazz have all ready
made a trade with! There are various other teams that are trying to shed
contracts as well, so it would be best not to make a panic trade.Probably
the most legit thing for the Jazz to do is try to use Korver's EC and Boozer or
AK and trade for another huge EC like T-Mac, but that does nothing to help the
Jazz this year. I also don't see why the Rockets would want either because they
have very little chance of resigning Boozer and AK does the same thing that
Shane Battier and Carl Landry do for cheaper.
Sloan is an amazing coach. You need to realize that. I will always love the Utah
Jazz and will always be faithful and believe in the organization. Utah's the
loudest arena in the NBA and there is a reason for that. They have had a
struggle, but they are working hard and will end up having an successful season.
Whether you want to admit it or not, Jerry Sloan is an amazing coach, Williams
and every Utah jazz player are amazing and will all be very successful. The
administrators, managers and coaches know more than we or at least I do about
trading, and I believe they will do the right things and help the Utah jazz
reach their potential.
With the Jazz resigning Millsap for so much it is time to give him the playing
time that Boozer is eating up. The trade that makes the most sense is still to
trade Boozer. I understand that it is difficult to get a trade done, but if the
Jazz do not trade Boozer before the trade deadline for an expiring deal, I will
be dissapointed. I don't think it is as benificial to keep Boozer to just let
his contract expire. We can still let that happen by trading him for someone
who's contract is also expiring.
What we need to do is develop a machine that can clone people, and then get the
basket ball greats that have retired and still living and have them donate their
DNA to the cause to get a championship for the Jazz. So we get STOCKTEN and
MALONE because they know Coach Sloan, so we have our PG, PF, ready to go, so we
get KAREEM at the Center, and yes we have to get MJ at the SG, and then at the
SF we get yes BIRD who else, how’s that for a starting 5. Then to round it
out we get BARKLEY, OLAJUWON, CLYDE THE GLIDE, BILL RUSSEL, MAGIC, WALT FRAZIER,
and I have always wanted to see OSCAR ROBINSON play, so there is our twelve, but
we need thirteen so let’s bring in ML CARR to fortify the towel waving to
get everyone going. So there we have it problem solved, I think these
players would agree to this just to show this young group of Basketball Players
how to be tough and play ball. You might think this is farfetched; but
it’s more realistic then what I have been reading on this blog
I think we should trade for Tracy MCgrady i just see something happening with
him on the team +
It is so obvious that since we cut Collins loose that the team has not been the
same. Bring Collins back and all will be well.
needs; shot blocking center, 2 who can shoot the 3 and play defense.Dump
Brewer, Okur, Miles, AK, and KK for a 2 guard as described above.Keep
Boozer and expiring contract, DWill, play Fes....he can't be worse than Ostertag
and he's cheap, and Matthews. If we keep losing we have two lottery picks
to deal and if we win great, we've got two cheap contracts, a lottery pick, and
cap space in a down market in the off-season.
"sloanaholic"Do not waste our times, go back watching old
reruns-please spare us. Next time i see that type of text I will just move on
to the next post
BY the way in case you did not hear.. Sloan stinks.'
The problem is that AK's worth will only serve the Jazz next year. If we can
entice a team to take him now, I am afraid we'll have to give up the Knicks'
pick in the process. Is it worth it?
This message is for KOC - the fans are so tired of this team that some are
starting to turn on our franchise player Deron. If you don't do something soon,
you're going to lose fans and the remaining fans will start questioning every
player on the roster. The next thing you know, we'll be the Knicks. A trade has to be done. I'm fine trading away anybody but Deron, Price,
Matthews and Millsap. I like how those guys play for the contracts they make.
I like AK, but his contract is killing the Jazz. I would say you trade CJ, AK,
and Kyle Korver for T-Mac. This would be a real gamble this season, but it
would pay off next season. At the end of the season win or lose Boozer's and
T-Macs contracts would come off the books. This would give Utah a huge amount
of cap room to go and spend in a very good free agent market. I
also wouldn't be against moving the Knicks pick and Boozer for Chris Bosh. This
would give us the bird rights to Bosh, meaning we could give him more money to
stay in Utah and play with D-Will.
Millsap, Matthews, Brewer. Trade anyone else.
The Jazz should keep Williams, Okur, Millsap and Brewer. Anyone else can go.
Boozer is playing well and the Jazz should trade him while they can before he
gets injured again.
You guys that keep complaining about milsaps contract need to remember that it
was front loaded by the trailblazers... after this year we have him for 6m/year
for 3 years.. a good deal after this year. Trade boozer already so
milsap can get the playing time he needs. Its clear that boozer lacks heart and
only plays halfhearted basketball, he is content with just earning his
paycheck.. i hope the reason he is logging so much playing time, is because they
are trying to showcase him an trade him. We were playing good basketball last
year with this same team untill boozer game back.As for you people
blaming Dwill you all are living in a dream world. He is one of the best point
guards in the NBA period! Yes he has struggled some lately with turnovers, but
perhaps he is trying to hard. If he could get anyone on this team to make a
layup or able to shoot and make a basket from 1-2 feet from the basket we would
be just fine. Last nights game was a perfect example.. guys were throwing brick
after brick from under the basket. Was hard to watch!
for the lakers
The real problem with the Jazz is the same one we've seen for the last few
years. 1)The Jazz have no big man who can play defense and 2) they lack a
shooter(if Korver ever returns to his early 2008 form then that problem may be
solved). That's the bottom line. The problem isn't Sloan or
Williams. I would almost welcome (gulp) Ostertag back if it helped the Jazz play
as long as Okur patrols the paint under the hoop the jazz will go nowhere. as of
today it looks like that will be the lottery. The ideal situation is to trade
Kirilenko, Boozer and Okur. We can most likely get something for them expiring
contract etc. bring Fes and Koufos in to play the minutes at center. Both can
defend, both are big and both have offensive ability. I think Miles has to go. I
watched him stand there as Chris Paul scored to basically put the game away. He
did not help or rotate and that is the problem with this team. Miles can score
but so can Matthews and he can play D.
Unload some people for McGrady. It's time to blow it all up.Call me when there's been a change.
I love how sloan totally spun the situation: "When you loose a couple of games
. . ."No coach, when you have a pathetic playoff/road record that
starts becoming a pathetic home record you have problems.Fact: The
coach has stayed the same for 22 years. Players have come and gone. No
championship. What makes you think more player shuffling will help at this
People are funny. If you critique team you are "so called fan." That is fans
job...wouldn't be a fan if we didn't have some takes on how they could be
better. Right or wrong. Fes and Kuf lovers stop. Your suggestions
hurt my reading eyes. We can't "Blow up team" either. This is lost year my
friends. If we play addition by subtraction (get something for Boozer or
finally get rid of AK, worst contract ever) we'll get a couple young draft picks
and hope for best. Remember this Jazz fan.....we aren't the Knicks,
the Nets, the Bucks, the Warriors. These teams, with a few exceptions, have
been awful for a decade. We had two "transition" years and were back in it.
KOC is good. Greg Miller is learning ropes. If young players won't play for
Jerry, that reputation will carry with them all over NBA. Jerry has most
respect along with Phil and Popp. This is good/bad for Jazz. Best
way to extend your displeasure is to take away dollars. Don't buy seats, don't
buy merchandise, turn off the TV. Jazz will hear that.
The Jazz could trade for Lee's expiring contract. They could package expiring
contracts for Lee but NY would want something back. Lee can be
bought next summer if he is the right solution. I think he is good but will not
take the Jazz to a championship. He could replace Boozer for 2 mill less.
You are right the interior D is poor. However improving that requires trading
Okur and/or Boozer. That would have already been done if the right trade were
feasible. The Jazz do not get back quick on D. That is also the bigs
not getting back quick. However, the D is slightly better than last
year. The offense has tanked this year. You either have to
dramatically improve the D or the O. Dramatically improving the D requires
trades at PF/C and I do not expect the Jazz to be willing to do that unless they
get a great trade for Boozer. It is much easier for Sloan to change
the offense. Which has has many times in the past (most people just did not
realize he made changes). How many pick and rolls have the Jazz run
this year? Very few. Why? Most NBA defenses can now stop the Jazz
pick and roll. The Stockton Malone offense is far different from the Jazz
offense of today.
Lots of ideas and some had merit and others flat out did not. I think Hornaceks mother wrote one asking the Jazz to replace Sloan with
Hornny. I think he is sole responsible for AK's shooting or lack thereof. Last
season AK made 10% of his shots and somebody wants Hornny to coach the entire
team. Let get Malone back to be the pr guy.Jazz are in a tough
place and playing really well is the best way out of the current situation.I begin to doubt that Jerry is the coach to do it though. He did take
the team to the finals twice or did he take 2 players and some wannabes to the
finals?Would Phil Jackson have conceivable won even one more title
had he stayed in Chicago? I think the same is true for Jerry. He is not being
listened to and so he is not able to direct or coach or deal with the players
level of confusion. To let him continue is to hope for a better crop than you
planted. Not going to happen.
Sorry I do not buy it. Sloan is an above average coach who won at home enough
to make the playoffs consistently. That was adequate for LHM who loved to have a
team and a full stadium. Utah has out grown that phase of the Jazz.
Now Sloan can win on the road or at home and the stands are not full. Plus the
salaries are out of whack. Worse the fans realize that the Jazz have the same
weaknesses year after year and are getting worse while management insists on not
fixing the problems. It is time for a change. You can't rebuild and
move forward without a new coach and approach to the game. Sloan will never win
a title from here, even a Western Conf title.
Thats as ridiculous as about 75% of the trades purposed by you fans. I do
believe however that this team has quit Sloan. Like it or not it's the truth.
Now what are they going to do? Well the Miller family better sit down fast and
think about their investment because I will tell you for sure the fans will
leave. I remember when the Jazz first moved here, I went to alot of games after
deciding at work to go. Seats were available all over the stadium. That might
just happen again what with this economy and the price of these tickets today.
You had better think about this Millers and quick!
Todd I think you are right to root for Memphis or any team who plays Jazz right
now. Until this team show fans they care, we will show our displeasure by
turning our backs to them. Some may ask, "But Fedor, your faith in
RSL never waivered!!" Yes, this is true. But Jazz own this city and the hearts
of every Jazz fan out there. They have been around forever. They have lot of
money....corner on the fans hard earned dollar. So they deserve our most
critique....our harshest words....why? Because we love them. This is how it
goes for those who have true passion for their teams. Now, RSL, yes, at times
they make Fedor very angry, but they are young, young coach and are working on
something bigger. They don't get paid with 15 million dollar per year
contracts. Anyway, Todd, keep putting the BP in his place. His
claims are outrageous and I know my friend that he could never match your
passion for this team. Let's hope the Jazz come out of funk. You
never know in this NBA.
You have 1/2 of it right. If you got a good traditional C and a shooting wing
you would have a team that would be 4th or maybe 3rd in the West. However, please do not pretend that changing players will fix all of the
problems with the Sloan offense. The offense is rapidly becoming
outdated by changes in the defenses of many NBA teams. If you were
lucky enough to get the right players you would still be stuck will all of
Sloan's quirks that insure the Jazz will NEVER sniff a championship. You can continue the charade for a few more years until Sloan retires IF you
get the right players but it is still a charade that is harder to maintain. Why is Sloan so indispensible to the Jazz? What do the Jazz have to lose
by replacing him? What do the Jazz have to gain? On balance the Jazz
have a better chance with the right new coach. Sloan's coaching
experience is a negative at this point. He has 18 years of losing road records
and now he is losing at home.
And changing coaches won't make Okur any faster or Boozer play better defense,
or make the Jazz more athletic and longer. It's obvious the problem lies with
the team makeup and other than Williams, the Jazz should look into getting some
new blood in town (not talking about the 3rd string pg).
Don't worry. The Jazz will pull out of this slump. It happens every year. A new
player to spark would help if we didn't have to sacrifice to much.
They need to think about trading Sloan, his time has come its the same old story
every year. Yes he's a good coach but he needs to retire and move on let some
new blood in and change things. It's time to wake up and smell the coffee.
Make the following trades:Brewer for WadeCJ for LeBronBoozer for BoshOKur for HowardSloan for PopovichKOC,
make it happen!
big time......if Larry were around...he would fire Greg Miller!C'mon
Greg...trade booz, brewer, okur, ak and go after josh smith, kevin martin,
iguodala, granger....get it done!
The Jazz are struggling, but it definately could be worse if all you people were
the G.M.'s, presidents, owners, and coaches. oooohhh, don't even want to think
about that, The jazz would be done for after the first game, Deron's the best
point guard in the NBA, Coach Sloan is the best Coach, and quit running our
twenty ten player our of utah. get rid of AK, and give boozer his money, or go
get chris bosh or someone over the summer.
An important thing to remember is it is difficult for the Jazz to get top flight
free agents to sign in Utah without overpaying them (see Okur and Boozer.) No
way any of the top free agents next summer sign in Utah (LeBron, Wade, Bosh,
To your comment, "These teams have been bad for the last decade", The Nets went
to the Finals twice the last decade. You truly give basketball fans a bad name.
Rid the Jazz of Memo. He ain't "Money." All he's doing is standing in the soup
line, for pete's sake.
I am on the floor, they are trying to revive me, please pass the Salt and a
kleenex.I cannot stop, calling Mr Magoo..Sloan and
O Connor great we would be lost after "10 minutes"great
comedyfree also, i got to say bye to Bugs Bunny
OK, maybe not nets. I forget that their current team isn't their past. To say I
give b-ball fans bad name.....you pick out one thing and I give b-ball fans bad
name? You give comedian bad name.
Matthew is the best young talent in the western conference! He and Wall will be
our franchise players! Keep Sloan.
I really like AK as a player. He plays with energy, blocks shots and works hard
at his game. The thing I don't understand though is: Why doesn't he volunteer
to restructure his contract to free up some money to help the jazz get a decent
player to help them win? I think that $8 million could get a decent
player and that $8 million would be enough for him to live on. I know that I
could put food on my table with that amount. In addition, it would show AK in
better light.Would someone please show me the faultiness of my
I got a idea trade the coach and gm to the nets, and hire a new coach and
Why don't they ask Kirilenko to re-negotiate his contract? I guess I would not
give up the 18 million either but hey they guy has not lived up to the contract.
you must be sloans cousin or coffee buddy. you must think he is a amazing from
all the stories of him saying, back in my day we worked so hard and so on and so
on. Get a clue.
Most people's solutions for the Jazz's woes are pretty ridiculous. Sloan isn't
going anywhere. Regardless of if he's at fault or not; he has earned the right
to say when he leaves. The second problem we run into is who are we actually
going to trade for? Even if we're just clearing out space on the payroll for
next year... who's to say there will be anybody worth signing? Kevin O'Connor
has consistently made smart moves that benefit the Jazz. We'll come out of the
woods eventually. As far as I'm concerned forget about Boozer. He's
playing really well and can help us THIS season. If he leaves we get cap room
if he stays then we get a solid player with a good attitude. Trading him is a
brash move and would seem to limit possible positives. The reason why
Sloan's system isn't working is because we need the type of players who are
willing to play hard. We need more Adam Keefes, Bryon Russells, Matt Harprings,
WES MATTHEWS or whoever else is willing to play hard.
It's time for a vacation. Please move to an uninhabited island, with nothing
for entertainment except for tapes of old Jazz tapes and sloan interviews.
Trade booZer pick up chris bosh bosh who is good friends with dwill
